If there’s one word to describe this year’s Stars team, its’s capable. We’re very capable of a winning season. An improved season (4-6 last year) would be a .500 season. We’re very capable of exceeding that. We’re capable both physically and mentally.
It’s the 2nd year under Coach Barker. Off season workouts saw an increase in numbers and enthusiasm. We dominated Mitchell on both sides of the ball in the scrimmage. Something we should do every year, but it hasn’t always been the case.
Offense: We’re capable of scoring a lot of points. We have a lot of depth at the skill positions. We have a solid OL, but not a lot of depth.
Defense: We’re very capable. The players have been in the right positions (lining up, covering, staying home, etc.). This tells me they have been listening to their coaches, and they have some football IQ.
All through the summer up to the scrimmage, and I assume as of week 1, we have 11 guys playing offense and 11 different guys playing defense. Obviously there will be some guys get in on both sides of the ball, but we have the means to limit that.
As far as the Martinsville game, I don’t want to sound too cliché, but it will be a good indicator of how this team is going to react. We’ll find out how we’ll react to good competition, adversity, mistakes, etc.
Side note: The Juniors and Seniors were 7th and 8th graders when Bedford first consolidated the 3 Jr. High teams into one. The first two classes to reap the benefits of that program.

Now, I am going to step off this crazy train until after the game. I need to get back to the boardroom, we are discussing next year’s sponsorships. We only have $500k in the budget so we have to very discerning in who we select.
If this doesn’t work, we may have to go with our back up plan. MD scientists are presently hard at work on a time portal we can use to send influential Mater Dei Alums back to when the top local football talent is born and influence them to come to MD.

No doubt acquired at the annual Clubbing of the Nuts festival....

I anticipate a low scoring game. I think the Miner D holds up, as long as there are no miscues from the offense or Special Teams.

Putting together a plan for Friday night & looking @ food options. Does Linton-Stockton have good concessions available or can someone recommend a decent place to grab a bite before the game? Something local would be great but any place with decent food - and a tolerance for the rowdy group of 13 year old boys accompanying me - would be just fine.
Thanks in advance.
The concessions are good.
Local Eats: (Non-Alcohol) Goosepond Pizza: Thin Crust-Highly recommend; The Grill: Diner; Golden Star Family Rest: Diner; Asian Buffet.
(Alcohol):Pizza Villa; The Vault-Get there early, service can be slow; La Fiesta; Monicals Pizza; The Sportsmans Pub-Highly recommend but no one under 21 allowed.

What about Riggleman, Fields they are also part of that said basketball team too. Both multi sport athletes. 1 player isn’t a team.
2 hours ago, Greene County Coach said:Yes... they will likely play. They will be in the mix of the 7-8 varsity guys. If this summer is an indicator of this Winter... it will be a team effort. The ones listed played most of if not all of the 30+ Summer games. Riggleman and Fields both missed quite a bit due to work schedules. My mistake 🙂
Basketball??? Never heard of her.

Did you attend the first half of the Boonville game? This is pretty dog gone spread out for Linton!
MP calls the games on the radio.
He probably knows more about the Miners than anybody I know of.......

Nor the coaching staff the Miners have
That was implied in my post.

Love the passion for your team. I watched parts of a couple Miner games this year. MD will have a pretty good size advantage in the trenches.
Most teams the Miners face have a size advantage in the trenches. The key factor here is, most teams don't have the coaching staff the Wildcats have.

Does the draw affect the way NA or FC approaches Friday night's game? Do you keep the play calling conservative, or do you pull out all the stops, run the Annexation of Puerto Rico, to get the win?

No doubt the Wildcats of the West Side are Kings of the Sectional 40 Mountain. 40 is theirs to lose especially with the only L's coming by way of the Wildcats of Transmission Land (8-0) and the Inter-Parochial Tigers (7-1).

Don’t worry man. Floyd Central is missing 17 players tonight. So I’m sure you’ll get your coveted win, that you guys haven’t had in several years.
Every win is coveted, just like an FC guy to have an inflated sense of self.
The Stars didn’t play good. We ran into the same problem as we did against NA. Red zone production. We got inside the 10 yd line, had to settle for 2 field goals. Against NA we were there 4 times, resulted in 16 points (stopped on 1, FG, TD with missed PAT, TD with PAT).

Silver Creek is a good team. East is still the best team in this conference. Idc what BNL did to Jeffersonville. I’ve re-watched their games vs Seymour and JC on YouTube. BNL plays very little defense. Their offense is their best unit but they only scored 16 pts vs a bad New Albany defense. They could win this game tonight, but I’ll be very disappointed if they do.
So you’re going to cherry pick the games that fit your narrative? Okay then, according to the SC game, FC has no offense and no defense.

No disrespect to BNL. But I like Tristan Robertson vs BNLs defense more than I like Brye Lewis vs FCs defense. Our weakness is against POWER RUNNING teams. Silver Creek and East were able to move the line of scrimmage. Finesse teams like Davies County and Jeffersonville had trouble. BNL is a finesse team. I like this matchup for Floyd. It could go either way though.
Ha, they don't run double tight wishbone or power I, but at the same time, I wouldn't consider them finesse. And Brye isn't the starting QB.

This better?
BNL 48 - Jeff 13 > FC 20 - Jeff 13

I think the one on bottom looks more accurate when you consider Floyd Central lost to Silver Creek but beat Jeffersonville.
I tried editing it, but I can't figure that out.

BNL > Jeff > SC > FC
or
BNL > Seymour * > CE > FC
*without our starting QB and Wing/Slot
Can we apply the transitive property of its repeatable?

For The Miners, it’s personal. 3+ score victory.
