I heard some interesting news last week from a very reliable source. Marian and CMA were both wanting to join the new NSC. The new conference turned them down because they didn't want any private schools. Not necessarily for football reasons but because they would dominate the other sports; tennis, golf, volleyball, soccer, etc. I'm not shocked Marian is looking for their exit strategy but it was interesting that CMA was looking for a conference home.

This new NIC is destined to fail, it's going to be:

Penn: cake walk year in and year out unless another school has a generational type team that will challenge

New Prairie: Going to be near the top but hardly, if ever #1. tough out in 4A

Elkhart: On track to become Elkhart Central

St. Joe & Marian: Switching spots every other year

Adams: Will get a new coach with new excitement but produce same results every 4 years.

Riley: Will look back with much fondness on their 8-2 2023 season

    Washington: Clay 2.0

CMA has been looking for a conference home for quite some time as it would help with scheduling. They would be a great fit in the new NSC but I understand the reasons behind the other school's reluctancy to add them.

    Sectional 26:

    Tippy Valley #35 vs Bremen #171                                  Tippy Valley 44-7 (99%)                Tippy Valley 40-17 (93%)          Tippy Valley 331-27 (60%)

    John Glen #124 vs Jimtown #139                                  Jimtown 20-19 (53%)

    Rochester #115 vs Lakeland #140                                  Rochester 35-28 (65%)                Knox 31-21 (74%)

    Knox #55 vs Fairfield #161.                                             Knox 38-10 (96%)

Good thing there is a running clock rule in effect. Otherwise, Tippy Valley would score 600 or more points against Knox. 🤣

Outside of the typo, this is good stuff and I like where @Frozen Tundra is going with all of this. Thanks to you 2 for putting this together.

  3. CMA 26  N Judson 22 F

Good hard fought game. CMA scores the go ahead TD with less than a minute left in the game. If NJ QB could throw with better accuracy then they win this easily. CMA needs to clean up the penalties. Impressed with the NJ run game. The FB is a load to bring down. NJ run D is tough as well. Secondary needs some work but they will have a pretty good season and have to be the favorite in their sectional and should contend for the HNAC. Good luck the rest of the way Jays.

^^^some people just have to be difficult 😂.  That said I like the name. Still think they need to find 1 or 2 more teams. 6 seems like a small conference.

I agree, Unfortunately there are not many options in the area without increasing drive times. Obviously I am partial to Culver Military joining but the only other options that would make a good fit are Fairfield, Wawasee, St. Joe, Marian or Rochester. I don't see any of those leaving their conference to join. Maybe after a couple of years, the interest to join by some of the schools would increase. I think it is going to be a great 2A/3A conference in all sports. Reminds me of a smaller NLC.

A big shout out to all high school coaches who volunteer their time  to coach up and teach these kids.........regardless of their number of wins. I would include most paid positions as volunteer work as well, since from what I've been told, their compensation is less than minimum wage considering the amount of time they put in. I do realize this is a touchy topic, so I'll bow out. But before I do, I just want to add:

    1.   The most asinine idea I've heard here on this forum is the elimination of 1A football, but that's just me. Hopefully Rodney isn't offended, I don't feel like tangling with him right now.

All of this I can agree with 100%

First of all, I said "chances are." Meaning, more times than not. Secondly, I never said coaches don't "put in the work." I'm sorry if my comment offended you, but I've been around long enough to know that, NORMALLY, the hardest working coach or player wins. No different than real life.  If you're a coach and you're not preaching that to your kids, then you might be in the wrong profession if championships are your main goal.

Maybe I'm just old school. When something goes wrong, I point the finger at me. Not backing off my comment.  I'm also a firm believer in 'get better or get used to it.' When a program goes decades winning championships, it would be an insult to say that their coaching staff isn't doing something different. Sure, there's lots of variables involved like recruiting, socioeconomic factors, and enrollment (why they have classes). That's why I choose my words like "chances are" and "normally" carefully. Can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Question: Is every high school weight room overflowing packed on Saturday mornings every weekend of the year? I know one that is. It's located somewhere in Central Indiana.

You must not choose all words carefully. You may want to re-read what you posted. The 4th word of the first sentence is coaches. You must not have been around many losing coaches or teams if you think that NORMALLY the hardest working coach or player wins. I agree that you get what you work for, however, your generalization that teams lose due to being outworked is wrong. I'm not saying it doesn't happen because it most certainly does but very rarely. There are so many other reasons other than how hard they worked or how much time they put in during the off season.

I agree with your premises but there's still no rational explanation as to why a team that goes 2-7 should EVER get a more favorable postseason draw than a team that goes 8-1 in almost any scenario imaginable.

I agree about the draw. The sectionals should all be seeded. But saying a team or coaches don't put in the work at 2-7 is just not fair to those teams.

I've been a member a lot longer than 4 1/2 years. A few of yours over the years are right up there too.

Chances are, the coaches and players who go 8-1 are probably putting in more time, especially in the off-season, than the team that went 2-7. You normally get out of life what you put into it. I think it's offending to to pair the two best teams on one side and the two worst teams on the other. In my opinion, it's a form of enabling...........no one gets better from that.

This has to be the most asinine thing I have read on this forum. You are seriously going to say that teams that go 2-7 didn't put as much if not more work than an 8-1 team? There are numerous reasons that several teams go 2-7 or worse and none of the reasons are that they didn't put in the time. Get out of here with that crap.

Unfortunately in a lot of 1A and 2A programs around the state, football is becoming a dying breed. Its too easy for kids to say they just want to focus on basketball or baseball all through the year, or quite simply just not play sports. Thats fine if you are going to the gym and getting 1,000 shots up a day and living in the weight room 365 days a year. Kids aren't actually doing it tho. What's even worse are the coaches in different sports are encouraging kids to be 1 sport athletes. Just an absolute shame.

I'll add that kids are not allowed to just be kids anymore. A small school athlete most likely plays 2 or 3 sports. Then you have all 3 coaches wanting them to do all of the summer or off season conditioning, scrimmages or tournaments. For a teen today, it is almost like a full time job. Go to baseball, then basketball then football. When do they have time to unwind and just enjoy their teen years? 1 week in July? Add to that coaches pressuring them to play only 1 sport. Where does it end? I can assure you that burnout is for real. I'm not saying that is what has happened with the kid from Triton, but seems to be happening more and more.

This will not align with Valley's mission.  They will not like this move by the new conference.  I am not sure it would be a 6-0 vote.

That doesn't really make a lot of sense. Why leave the TRC if you aren't wanting to join a conference with tougher opponents? Both schools are in the same class. They have played each other in the regular season in many sports. I don't have a dog in this fight so to each their own I guess.

    Breaking on WHME Sports.

Jimtown, Glenn and Bremen have sent letters to Northern Indiana Conference asking to leave the league by 2024-25.

Tippy Valley sent a letter to Three Rivers Conference asking the same.

LaVille and Knox have asked to leave the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.

Rumor has it Rochester turned down a request to join, and Fairfield is entertaining the offer.

CMA has been having discussions with the new conference schools. I guess CMA wants to join. We will see. I honestly believe they would be a good fit. I know they have had some great seasons in boys basketball as of late but they are coming back down to average. Football had some really good seasons from 2017-2019 but year in and year out, they are not a juggernaut. All other sports would be about even. There is the issue of gate with hosting them. Hopefully that can be worked out. On the plus side, CMA never charges for admission to home games unless hosting IHSAA tourney games.

And seeing how it’s all played out now over the past 6 or 7 years it’s basically the old NSC minus Triton, Culver and NP while adding Tippy Valley.  I get why it was done but the old NSC basically got blown up for Triton and Culver.

The NSC did not "got blown up" for anyone. It "got blown up" due to competitive imbalance between the top 4 schools and the bottom 4 schools. It should have been a blessing to the top 4 to have Culver and Triton wanted to leave. Culver had a few top half finish years in football and Triton competed in basketball but across most other sports, these 2 schools offered little to no competition for the top 4 teams.  The NSC "got blown up" because the top 4 teams couldn't convince Knox and Laville to stay or failed to get anyone else to join with them. It was only a matter of time until the NSC fell apart. It was evident as Jimtown and NP kept growing. The HNAC has been/will be great for Triton and Culver. It served its purpose for Knox and LV, although I have no idea why Knox thinks it will compete in the new conference but it will definitely prepare them better for the state tournament. I for one like this shakeup and think it will serve all schools better in the future.

Don't get me wrong. The jays out played Winamac by a bunch.

It wasn't like they were drilling Winamac players and they were fumbling. Atleast two of the fumbles the ball slipped out of the kids hands as he was coming down due to the slickness. The ball just happened to fall where other Jays were. NJ fumbled four times and were able to jump on it. The ball bounced their way that night. The one pick Harper had was a great read by Alderic ..had he not made it, Brandt would have taken it to the house ..there wasn't a single Jay around him besides Harper.

Spin it however you want but which is it? The elements and the slippery ball or did NJ out play them. I'll save you some time here. Both teams had to play in the weather. NJ outplayed and outcoached Winamac. Judson prepared for the weather. Now if you are using the excuse that Winamac couldn't run outside then the coaches did a poor job of preparing Winamac for the weather. All of the so called size, speed and talent and they couldn't run some power plays?  So pick a narrative and believe what you want but Winamac got beat.

Judson was the best team in the sectional hands down. Look back, I called that in week 7 or 8. Most people outside of Winamac knew that they weren't going to be prepared based solely on their schedule and how they competed against the teams on their schedule. Say what you want, but in some of those wins, Culver included, Winamac did not have the game in hand until well into the second half. Try to look at the film objectively and not through rose colored glasses and you will see that. Judson at least played some tough teams and were competitive in those games. It wasn't hard to see that they were the heavy favorites to win the sectional. You can claim the what if and would have done this or that championship all you want. Bottom line is Winamac got beat badly as did Culver by the best team in the sectional. Hopefully the 1st or 2nd grade class at Winamac will be as promising as this 2022 class was that we have been hearing about for years. Congratulations to those young men on their what if sectional and regional championship! Hopefully they pull off the what if state title in a couple of weeks.

North Judson won't have a problem with Carroll.

The Winamac/NJ game was the sectional championship and regional championship.

You must be in real denial from the loss if you think that was the sectional and regional championship. Winamac was good against the bad teams. They finally played a good team and got beat. Culver had as good a shot as Winamac and the result was the same.
