New Coaches in NLC
Offintheyard replied to Coach Lou's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
And one of those 4 schools is on their second coach just for the 2026 season. -
He could have been talking 1A, I don't know that either. I'm not taking anything away from Berry, I even said that in my post. Even with talent, there still has to be a good coach leading them and Berry has done that so far. I'm not trying to stir any pots either. I just simply stated that calling Berry the best coach in West Central Indiana is a bit premature in his young career as there are many that can lay claim to that. He may very well think that Berry is God's gift to football, I have no idea. I'm simply showing that there are many candidates that can have an argument based on their success (some coaches at multiple schools) and geographic location. I don't' want to turn this thread into who is the best coach argument, I simply stated an opinion. There are some good teams left in the tournament from the HNAC so I'll revert this thread back to that. Good luck to all teams this week.

This take is very subjective. What criteria are you basing this on? What are the boundaries? I'll see your Adam Berry and raise you Mike Johnson, the guy that built the program that Berry inherited. Or I can throw in a Russ Radke. Love him or hate him, the dude can flat out coach and wins. Lambert at North Judson has to be in the conversation as well. I'm not saying Berry isn't a good coach, I'm just saying it's premature to call him the best in the area.

Was at a game many moons ago and the final was 5-2. Crazy game to watch. Not a great game, it was just 2 pretty bad teams.

Rensselaer Moving On
Offintheyard replied to cpg1970's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Would be great to see but man, that drive from RC to Jimtown would be brutal. -
Is it a football only issue or is there a problem higher up? I only ask because back in the day (20+ years ago, showing my age), Bremen was a tough out in all sports. Bob Holmes seemed to be righting the ship until his issues and Bremen has never seemed to get back to where they were. Next question would be: Can they get the right staff or will the administration hinder that? Is there just a lack of interest from the students and community? Northern Indiana football is great when Bremen and Jimtown are both good.

I'm assuming you were referring to Culver Military as Culver Community would hardly ever win any games in any sport vs NSC. Culver Military would be a great addition and had expressed interest as well. I assume they were shot down due to the basketball issues years ago. It's ironic as most of the new NSC schools have been or are on the football schedule and most other sports schedules except boys basketball.

I like this conference a lot. My concern would be how competitive LV and Knox will be over time. I think LV will hold their own most years but Knox may struggle in a few years. It would be nice if they could add 2 more schools but I understand that adding schools that would be a good fit could be a problem. I think this will be a very competitive conference for many years to come.

CMA has been looking for a conference home for quite some time as it would help with scheduling. They would be a great fit in the new NSC but I understand the reasons behind the other school's reluctancy to add them.

CMA 26 N Judson 22 F Good hard fought game. CMA scores the go ahead TD with less than a minute left in the game. If NJ QB could throw with better accuracy then they win this easily. CMA needs to clean up the penalties. Impressed with the NJ run game. The FB is a load to bring down. NJ run D is tough as well. Secondary needs some work but they will have a pretty good season and have to be the favorite in their sectional and should contend for the HNAC. Good luck the rest of the way Jays.

South Central 44 Culver Community 22 F Game was back and forth and much closer than the score indicates. Culver is just too young and has no depth. Had 2 or 3 key players go down with injuries and cramps and SC took advantage.

The return of the NSC.
Offintheyard replied to MarshallCounty's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I agree, Unfortunately there are not many options in the area without increasing drive times. Obviously I am partial to Culver Military joining but the only other options that would make a good fit are Fairfield, Wawasee, St. Joe, Marian or Rochester. I don't see any of those leaving their conference to join. Maybe after a couple of years, the interest to join by some of the schools would increase. I think it is going to be a great 2A/3A conference in all sports. Reminds me of a smaller NLC. -
The return of the NSC.

It just makes sense and seems right. -
You must not choose all words carefully. You may want to re-read what you posted. The 4th word of the first sentence is coaches. You must not have been around many losing coaches or teams if you think that NORMALLY the hardest working coach or player wins. I agree that you get what you work for, however, your generalization that teams lose due to being outworked is wrong. I'm not saying it doesn't happen because it most certainly does but very rarely. There are so many other reasons other than how hard they worked or how much time they put in during the off season.

This has to be the most asinine thing I have read on this forum. You are seriously going to say that teams that go 2-7 didn't put as much if not more work than an 8-1 team? There are numerous reasons that several teams go 2-7 or worse and none of the reasons are that they didn't put in the time. Get out of here with that crap.

IFD Dandy Dozen 1A
Offintheyard replied to Titan32's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I'll add that kids are not allowed to just be kids anymore. A small school athlete most likely plays 2 or 3 sports. Then you have all 3 coaches wanting them to do all of the summer or off season conditioning, scrimmages or tournaments. For a teen today, it is almost like a full time job. Go to baseball, then basketball then football. When do they have time to unwind and just enjoy their teen years? 1 week in July? Add to that coaches pressuring them to play only 1 sport. Where does it end? I can assure you that burnout is for real. I'm not saying that is what has happened with the kid from Triton, but seems to be happening more and more. -
HNAC Expansion Talk

Argos would be the better choice but would they leave the new conference they helped to form? -
HNAC Expansion Talk

Sounds like North Miami has accepted the invite. I don't know particulars but it sounds like they are in. -
CMA has been having discussions with the new conference schools. I guess CMA wants to join. We will see. I honestly believe they would be a good fit. I know they have had some great seasons in boys basketball as of late but they are coming back down to average. Football had some really good seasons from 2017-2019 but year in and year out, they are not a juggernaut. All other sports would be about even. There is the issue of gate with hosting them. Hopefully that can be worked out. On the plus side, CMA never charges for admission to home games unless hosting IHSAA tourney games.

The NSC did not "got blown up" for anyone. It "got blown up" due to competitive imbalance between the top 4 schools and the bottom 4 schools. It should have been a blessing to the top 4 to have Culver and Triton wanted to leave. Culver had a few top half finish years in football and Triton competed in basketball but across most other sports, these 2 schools offered little to no competition for the top 4 teams. The NSC "got blown up" because the top 4 teams couldn't convince Knox and Laville to stay or failed to get anyone else to join with them. It was only a matter of time until the NSC fell apart. It was evident as Jimtown and NP kept growing. The HNAC has been/will be great for Triton and Culver. It served its purpose for Knox and LV, although I have no idea why Knox thinks it will compete in the new conference but it will definitely prepare them better for the state tournament. I for one like this shakeup and think it will serve all schools better in the future.
