My current favorite remains Greeks. We’ve made some trips to Crawfordsville since they opened there. How about you?

This is false. Not ALL kids like to be coached hard.
I apologize. Let me be more specific. This generation of kids is as tough as those who’ve come before them. Most like to be pushed and held accountable, or coached hard. There will always be those who are soft or lazy, and they typically find other activities during the fall, or a place that better suits their personality.
We could have a whole discussion on this, but I don’t want to hijack Lake Central/Crown Pointe football thread!

Could KK win at CP? I doubt it. Kids today are not tough enough to buy into his coaching style.

I’m not in any hall of fame, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express one time. Had to fire the guy running the defense last year. He got his @ss kicked lol
It was me. I gave up a lot of points last year lol

I don’t think this is what Woody was after, I swear to God I don’t. But since you opened the door I’ll say this right to your face. If you’re a Hall of Fame coach you shouldn’t suck on defense no matter who the DC is. STATE LAW!

Is D Coordinator the hardest position coach to hire? At least in small school football?
It can be hard to hire coach/teachers at a school with an enrollment of 240 period. We have a great situation at North Vermillion though in that regard. Very supportive administration. Having coaches in the building has been a big part of sustaining our success.

North Vermillion High School is looking to hire a Defensive Coordinator. We are a small 1-A football program located on the Indiana-Illinois border, about 10 miles south of Interstate 74. We have an immediate teaching opening in Math. Potential teaching openings in other subjects could come later. We graduated 2 defensive starters from 2020. If you like working with tough, hard-nosed kids, this is a good opportunity.

I thought government school "advantage/edge" was artificial turf fields, fancy weight rooms, and spacious locker rooms. But I guess those don't really work all that well.....................
It can help, but if I was making a list, it would be down the line a little.

I don't think recruiting is an issue and we know kids move around to publics in the current environment so I'm not sure why this keeps coming up. It's not the issue. There are publics all over the state who have CYO like youth leagues, feeder systems etc. but all things being equal they are still disadvantaged in comparison to their enrollment equal on the private side of the fence....why? It's been said here already, it's not what privates have....it's what they don't have. They don't have a subset of the student population that doesn't do anything related to extracurriculars at all. They don't have to deal with that type of Human. In addition, EVERY public has this situation regardless of the socioeconomic status of the neighborhood the building happens to be in. All of them.
You’re correct that the student populations are different, and that favors private schools. It gives them an edge. What is Gibson Southern’s edge? What are the Titans doing to develop an edge of their own when they private schools? Where can you find an advantage of your own?

Sincere thank you to all of the old school GID private school supporters who ingrained in me “work harder, get better” as a response to this timeless argument. I’ve learned that if all of the other intangibles line up, and your public school team has been coached to be certain you couldn’t have been out worked, you should look forward to the chance to beat a private school.

Congratulations on the Championship! O-Line was very impressive. I’m still using things I learned from our meeting.

Micah Wilson and Nick Miller were especially fun to watch. Both are outstanding players - obviously
I was impressed with the heart of South Adams and the composure of Covenant Christian - obviously
The Covenant Christian offensive line is well coached. Their o-line coach is good at hawg coaching.

Want to know a secret? Want to know why some teams seem to have a knack for winning the big games?
It’s a mentality developed by searching out the best teams you can find to compete against. Competition like that takes away the fear of losing. And going into a big game, if there’s no fear of losing, chances are you’re going to win.
Coach Berry and his program are awesome. I’m a big fan.

I do think this a different question. There are teams playing games that are missing a significant number of contributors. Springs Valley is playing with basically their entire Junior class quarantined. Not all schools cancel just because they're in a bad situation. Amazes me some of the big schools that are cancelling. Surely they can play. It may not be with the 11 on the field that you want, but that's not always the point.
Thank you.
If you factor in Covid quarantine, on top of the normal injuries that happen every season, it’s a challenge just to field a team. It’s not even about being competitive at this point, but rather getting the game played. There are schools who are playing Friday nights with a varsity/JV hybrid line-up. Forget about making up for the 8 consecutive practices the team missed while in quarantine, because your line-up changes from day to day. There isn’t any continuity.

It really doesn’t have anything to do with toughness. If the health department says shut down, you shut down. Also, all it takes is one positive test, and everything can be shut down.

Is there anything prohibiting coaches who live/work on the border from coaching this fall, then taking an assistant job in Illinois this Spring?

I’ve found that with Hudl, phones, texts, weekend meetings don’t necessarily have to happen anymore with a few exceptions. It can also be easy to confuse being busy with being productive. Just from my experience, I’m a better coach when I’m rested and I take time to recharge.

Team Sessions are just that, FIT UP or THUD UP and quick whistle: We also have to be wary of issues of Scout team vs 1st Team Defense, some days so real poor matchups for Scout, we try to get some Varsity OL to play Scout OL to give the best look possible.
When we go team sessions we 100% are looking for perfect alignment, technique and auto adjustments, pad levels off snap and 11 hats to the ball every rep. No focus on getting the guy to the ground. I am big with our LBs making sure their hips are down and like you said, running feet and not taking shortcuts, its something you have to harp on from day 1 of summer.
Our typical week:
Monday, Film, lift, condition, light walk thru sometimes.
Tuesday: Install, O and Def fundamentals in your groups, this is where we do most of our Wheel tackles, pursuit drills, 7 on 7, rally drills, DL work on their drills such as splitting doubles,, wrong arm, work against traps, et. al. Modified short Team sessions as well.
Wed: ALL TEAM Sessions as we only have usually about 1 hour and 40 minutes to practice, we have to be off the field by 5:45 for "church night" We do not get out to the field and taped up and stretched until about 4 daily.
Thursday: Full team script: Special teams to O and D, light walk thru, some sessions just on air for us offensively
Friday: Game on
Saturday: 7 a,m. Stretch, weight room, conditioning. .
Good stuff Coach. Always good to affirm the things we’re doing by looking at great programs and coaches.
