My inside source tells me the buyout is all the Terra Villa pasta and garlic bread he can eat for the remainder of the contract length and 10 meatball calzones from Gerries. @Donnie Baker the best pizza in west central Indiana is Overpass Pizza. The thin crust is ambrosia. We should eat there sometime!

“Recruiting is real in high school."

Make your program the best around. Make your feeder system the best around. The transfer players will show up without the coaches ever speaking to them prior to enrollment. -
Wabash River Conference Week 5

Excuses are the opium of the weak and entitled. Does an enrollment of 213 present some challenges? Sure. Does anyone feel sorry for NV? No. Doesn’t matter, work harder. -
Wabash River Conference Pre Season
Woody_Hayes replied to Donnie Baker's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
It blows my mind how quickly 11 years can pass, when one week of football work, against a worthy opponent, can feel like an eternity, just wishing the seconds away to reach that 7:00 kickoff. One of the greatest blessings in my life happened when I ended up in the WRC. This little athletic conference binds our blue collar, hard-scrabble towns together. It’s a beautiful region of the Midwest that is Americana as apple pie. The football that’s played here is tough and physical, brought to you by long family lines, and friendly (at times hateful) rivalries. As it should be. I can’t image a more beautiful setting for the Fall than the banks of the Wabash River in West-Central Indiana. Apple Festival, Little Italy, Hill Climb, Covered Bridge. Stroll through any of these and see 4 letter jackets of different WRC schools. What we share is special. You can’t find a better place to raise your kids. I have no idea how it will turn out, but I’m very thankful to be a part of another high school football season in the WRC. -
I knew Coach Kling back in the old days at USI. Great coach and also a great dude! No doubt success is on the horizon in Mitchell

I would be remiss if I didn’t add that Craig James killed 5 hookers. Long live the Pirate

As am I dude. Hard for me to quantify the positive impact that studying him has had on my career. Not just the Air Raid offense, but his general approach to leading a team. Shoot, his general approach to life. He made it ok to be “different” as a football coach. I really admired him and kind of had the pipe dream that I might meet him some day. Mike’s Pirate School forever, Texas A&M pretend soldiers never

Hey Donnie! I keep getting advertisements on my phone for Brother’s pizza in Crawfordsville. Have you been there? Thinking about giving it a try. -
Wabash River Conference Week 3

Don’t understand the big deal. IHSAA has established the point in a game when mercy is appropriate. If the clock’s not running, pedal to the metal. Once the running clock starts, mercy should be shown by the winning team. It’s pretty black and white to me. -
Mercy rule a few years
Woody_Hayes replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I appreciate the IFCA and IHSAA working together to establish our mercy rule in conjunction with the new quarter rule. Those rule changes have helped me, as a coach, manage games more effectively. No hard feelings if I onside kick in the third quarter, up 28, and then dial up a TD pass to hopefully start the running clock. No hard feelings if the other team plays their starters, pedal to the metal, and scores 60 in the first half. It makes game decisions from both coaching staffs feel impersonal. Business is business. -

1A is better when the Panthers a part of it. Welcome back Pioneer! -
Overpass is the best pizza in the WRC hands down. It’s not close. I keep my ratings to WRC Pizza King establishments because I love the franchise and tradition. If you’re looking for a good slice, check out Manolo’s on campus at U of I. Good pizza, but the empanadas are top shelf. The dessert empanadas are a must.

Bingo. My reply was about just making sure no one was taking any cheap shots.

Week 7 WRC Pizza King ranking: 1. West Lebanon 2. Rockville 3. Attica 4. Veedersburg (Oxford Pizza King currently wears the Western Indiana crown) I want to eat pizza with Donnie Baker!

WRC Week 6
Woody_Hayes replied to Marshall Mathers's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
From a coaching perspective, the IHSAA set the mercy rule at 35 points. As a team with the lead, why wouldn’t you keep playing until you reach the running clock? If mercy is the IHSAA’s expectation only after a team is winning by 35, why dial it down earlier than that? There are several advantages to a running clock for the winning team. I think if any coach had an issue with the 35 point activation for mercy they would take it up the IHSAA. -
WRC Week 6

Nothing but respect for Attica Coaches and players doing their best to keep their football program alive. Also, the way they play, they don’t look like a team that dressed 15. Their level of play is much better. -
Is there a coaching shortage brewing?
Woody_Hayes replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
My daughters have played travel volleyball for years. The program they’re in now is coached by high school coaches in Illinois. They do an awesome job getting the girls ready for their high school seasons. Most of the coaches from other teams that I observe at tournaments also do a good job. -

Some things that I think help: 1. The longer you are at a school, the easier it is to fill positions with young guys interested in coaching who played in your system and live in the community. These guys are usually in for the long term. Bonus is they already know and believe in the culture. 2. Don’t micro-manage your coaches. If you give them a job, let them do their thing. 3. Take responsibility when you screw up, and apologize when you do (this goes a long way with players too) 4. Give credit when and where it’s due. 5. Don’t waste their time. Don’t have meetings when phone calls, texts, emails will do. 6. As a head coach, don’t take your too seriously. You hear horror stories about certain HCs and their egos. I couldn’t coach for someone like that. 7. Take over for some of the crappy tasks that no one wants to do. Hope this is helpful. -
Pioneer - What's the Secret
Woody_Hayes replied to Dolts's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Sorry DT, but racking up wins against the local high school or boys club in the early part of last century is bogus questionable at best. I’m just hopeful to be around when the head to head record lead changes hands. -

Why would a basketball school fire up the Pioneer football team?
