  1. Sincere thank you to all of the old school GID private school supporters who ingrained in me “work harder, get better” as a response to this timeless argument. I’ve learned that if all of the other intangibles line up, and your public school team has been coached to be certain you couldn’t have been out worked, you should look forward to the chance to beat a private school.
  2. Congratulations on the Championship! O-Line was very impressive. I’m still using things I learned from our meeting.
  3. Micah Wilson and Nick Miller were especially fun to watch. Both are outstanding players - obviously I was impressed with the heart of South Adams and the composure of Covenant Christian - obviously The Covenant Christian offensive line is well coached. Their o-line coach is good at hawg coaching.
  4. South Vermillion beat Riverton Parke 46-16 in the Championship. North Vermillion beat Parke Heritage 52-20 in the consolation game.
  5. I just looked up Robies in Attica......how did I not know about this place? Their daily specials look delicious! Definitely going to have to check it out soon.
  6. Mid-season WRC Pizza King ranking: 1. West Lebanon 2. Rockville 3. Attica 4. Veedersburg
  7. Crabtree. Total smoke show 🔥
  8. Want to know a secret? Want to know why some teams seem to have a knack for winning the big games? It’s a mentality developed by searching out the best teams you can find to compete against. Competition like that takes away the fear of losing. And going into a big game, if there’s no fear of losing, chances are you’re going to win. Coach Berry and his program are awesome. I’m a big fan.
  9. Thank you. If you factor in Covid quarantine, on top of the normal injuries that happen every season, it’s a challenge just to field a team. It’s not even about being competitive at this point, but rather getting the game played. There are schools who are playing Friday nights with a varsity/JV hybrid line-up. Forget about making up for the 8 consecutive practices the team missed while in quarantine, because your line-up changes from day to day. There isn’t any continuity.
  10. We’re doing the best we can grassmole.
  11. It really doesn’t have anything to do with toughness. If the health department says shut down, you shut down. Also, all it takes is one positive test, and everything can be shut down.
  12. Is there anything prohibiting coaches who live/work on the border from coaching this fall, then taking an assistant job in Illinois this Spring?
  13. Thanks for sharing Coach! That gave me chills.
  14. I’ve found that with Hudl, phones, texts, weekend meetings don’t necessarily have to happen anymore with a few exceptions. It can also be easy to confuse being busy with being productive. Just from my experience, I’m a better coach when I’m rested and I take time to recharge.
  15. Good stuff Coach. Always good to affirm the things we’re doing by looking at great programs and coaches.
  16. One of our stations in our weekly tackle circuit is a strip drill. It teaches first defender to the ball secure the tackle, second and third defender help with tackle, strip the ball and recover the fumble. It has had a very positive impact on our defense. We strip multiple footballs per season and recover the football.
  17. I get the sentiment, but I’m not sure it matters DT. I know a program that hasn’t “live tackled” more than 5 times in the last 8 years. They’ve won 85% of their games over that period, put rings on fingers, and they haven’t lost a kid to injury during that time due to contact at practice.
  18. Did you full 360 on counter option or did you open opposite then 180 back to the play side? I’ve seen it done both ways.
  19. Clicked the topic to say the same thing. Dude is a legend, coming from someone who has never met the man. He’s done Indiana coaches proud.
  20. There was a time in the not so distant past, where Valpo had the opportunity to prepare for this very match-up by adding a class to their curriculum dealing with the slaying of Dragons. However, they passed on the opportunity to train their men with the “Dragon Slayer” course. Sure people laughed about it back then, but tonight the Vikings face the Dragons. Will this missed opportunity come back to haunt them?
  21. Pedialyte is good stuff. Nasty, but effective.
  22. Lights on at North Vermillion for the Bowsman family and West Washington community
  23. I’m a coach who has been in the situation you’re talking about multiple times. I always say we’re going to take a knee four times and give them the ball back. I don’t care if they score again because what difference does it make? And when those teams have scored, it doesn’t raise my blood pressure at all, because who cares? We won the game. Still don’t get what the big deal is, but I am trying to understand where you’re coming from. Oh, and also, I’m as old school as they come. Doesn’t get more “old school” than Wayne Woodrow “Woody” Hayes lol
