Can't find an article yet but they did name their coach last night. Charles Benintende was officially named their head coach last night at their board meeting. Fantastic dude, got to personally work with him in Evansville and is very knowledgeable. I was very sorry to see him leave but things happen. He will get numbers up and understands football better than anyone else. I can't say if he has any talent there to win but he will get the best out of his kids. Congrats Coach

Where else has he coached? I noticed the article said he lives in Greenville, here in Floyd County. That's my area.

You can never go wrong with Miller’s Tavern. There’s finer dining, but I fit much better at Miller’s. Thought my LJ was going to get his ass whipped in there one night by an old woman.

    Any good Pizza around there?

Lakeside Pizza, a couple minutes north of town on State Road 3, has wood fired pizza and a lot of out-of-towners go there for the good pizza, sandwiches, and Brown County wine. Can’t go wrong there.

Crimson Oak is another great spot. I actually just ate there tonight. The food is fancy so it’s a little pricier but it’s so good. Heck, it’s so good that Chris Evans (a.k.a. Captain America) stopped in to eat there last fall. And, no, I’m not kidding.

I missed this. Lakeside Pizza sounds like a winner. I'm a trucker so it will be soft drinks and water for me only.

  3. Hey,  know the JC guys were getting on me a while back because they thought I was looking down on them. I've been working up in Seymour and North Vernon. Believe me, that is such a nice area. I like NV a lot. Really cool town to drive around. My only issue is that I don't know it very well and I didn't know where all the good eating spots are. Lol.

The IHSAA released the new enrollments yesterday. Figured I’d share the data as to how it pertains to Hoosier Hills Conference schools.

Jeffersonville went from 2,099 students (#29) in the last cycle to 2,141 students (#30) in the new cycle.

Result: +42 students, -1 spot in school size rankings

Floyd Central went from 1,854 students (#43) in the last cycle to 1,823 students (#43) in the new cycle.

Result: -31 students, no change in school size rankings

New Albany went from 1,787 students (#49) in the last cycle to 1,814 students (#44) in the new cycle.

Result: +27 students, +5 spots in school size rankings

Seymour went from 1,605 students (#55) in the last cycle to 1,719 students (#51) in the new cycle.

Result: +114 students, +4 spots in school size rankings

Columbus East went from 1,534 students (#61) in the last cycle to 1,518 students (#58) in the new cycle.

Result: -16 students, +3 spots in school size rankings

BNL went from 1,397 students (#69) in the last cycle to 1,242 students (#79) in the new cycle.

Result: -155 students, -10 spots in school size rankings

Jennings County went from 1,181 students (#84) in the last cycle to 1,169 students (#86) in the new cycle.

Result: -12 students, -2 spots in school size rankings

The way Jeffersonville is growing, I expect them at about 2400 eventually.

I wasn’t comparing FC and JC’s wresting programs, but I will consider myself an educated.  Do you feel like FC’s dominance in wrestling is superior genetics?

Floyd Central is good in Wrestling because of culture and coaching.

I was only using their basketball team as a reference to identity why JC football hasn't been very good.

For the JC fans on here, I'm not someone that is cheering for you guys to not be successful in football. I'd love to see JC be competitive. This conference being competitive is a benefit to everyone.

The point I was trying to make is that you can't always control the personnel you get in HS athletics. FC had a good football team this season. But they played a bigger and faster Evansville North team and lost. It just happens that way.

You lucked into Sturgeon.  Floyd was an afterthought in basketball since the late 80's until he arrived.  Without him the slide to irrelevancy will be fast.  You claim all those good genetics down there and yet Jennings County has more class basketball sectional Titles.  What gives?

You can win in football at Jennings County.  6-4 my senior year of 97-98.  some 5-5 and 6-4 teams since.  We have fielded a competitive team the last two years.  Punched you guys in 2022.  Don't claim you had injuries because we can say the same about this past season.

Buddy, Floyd Central isn't irrelevant in anything. Hell, they won the 3A State Championship in Wrestling yesterday. They have a good basketball coach in Fonso White. They're in a rebuild but they'll be rolling again in a few years. Don't compare Jennings County to Floyd Central. It's not even worth an argument.

  7. You can't win at Madison or Jennings County. Not against the level of teams they have to play. Unfortunately HS athletics isn't like Collegiate athletics where you can recruit your roster. I know a few kids are recruited here and there but for the most part, you are what you are. Madison and JC have had good coaches. But they just don't have the athletes or the talent. It has to develop in the youth system and genetics plays a big part of that. We had a pretty good run in basketball down here at Floyd from 2012-2021 with coach Sturgeon. They probably had 20 kids that were 6"6 or taller in that timeframe. Some 6"9, 6"10, 7 foot tall. You can't teach that stuff. Area genetics plays a big part in HS Athletics success.

Steve Cooley took his team to semi-state just a couple of years ago. No other football team around here has managed that, except Seymour in the 90s. I'm not sure about your definitions of "getting it done," but that would qualify in most people's books.

I'm not saying he's a bad coach. He has had 1 good season at New Albany with the most talented roster in the history of their school. We will see if he can get back to that level.

  9. Jeffersonville and New Albany are both a clown show. New Albany ran out a Hall of Fame coach like Jim Shannon. Hired a guy from Jay County. Their AD ran him out this summer. Then they hired a guy from Kansas who won 2 games last year. In basketball.  And I like Steve Cooley, he's a pretty good guy. But he's not really getting it done either.

MS football is on MaxPreps?  lol

That's the Freshman schedule. I get MS info from my friends who coach the teams.

7-1 or 8-0 doesn’t really matter. Still solid and, combined with a good 8th grade class, that’s promising for us East fans who have seen bad football the last three years. I’m not expecting the East teams Gaddis coached, but it would be nice to have a winning record again.

    I think you will.

Supposedly Columbus East has really good freshman and 8th grade classes. We’ll see how that translates at the varsity level in 2-3 years. Considering the success both have had, it’ll reflect poorly on coaching if Vogel isn’t able to do anything with them.

7-1. They rolled every team except for Floyd Central who beat them 38-20. You all have heard me talk about that team. They haven't lost a game since 3rd grade. From what my people are telling me, it's a generational class. Our 7th and 8th grade teams didn't lose a game this season either. We have a lot of Coach Wiegleb players who are involved in the feeder and youth coaching and their kids are coming. Some pretty big ass kids too.

We may stink at football but I’d argue we’re more passionate about our teams than the fans of teams from other conferences that you only see on this site because they’re winning. Maybe I’m biased though.

I take a lot of heat on here at times. A lot of it, I'm sure was deserved. But this is honestly a pretty good football thread. A lot of people in this thread give a **** about this conference. I hope that it continues to improve. I'm not sure what the conference will look like considering the really good players leaving FC, Seymour, and BNL but it'll be interesting. It'll be interesting to see what happens at Jeffersonville after a 0-fer season. Some other programs that are struggling, will they make any changes? Obviously a lot to digest before next season.

  13. I'd like to give a shout-out to the greatest QB in Floyd Central history. What a season and career.
