  1. Brownsburg is #44. Trinity has always held their own against the best in this state and Ohio. As with most teams in this early poll, traditional strength and returning players are the main factors in ranking. Talked with some fans from Detroit King several years ago at a Carmel game and they said Fort Wayne schools would not return their calls. Also know that Central Catholic and Whitmer are always seeking games.
  2. I'm not sure Snider would want that.
  3. As you review this poll, let me know your thoughts on it. I am always looking for constructive feedback to make this as a good "fan" poll as I can. 1. Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei 2. 4. I'm having a hard time thinking of teams that I have not seen play. Got one, I have never seen Vincennes play.
  5. It appears that the progressive IHSAA has voted this down by a 12-6 vote.
  6. Some states have coop teams with as many as four schools and they use a / between each. Iowa has a good Class 2A program that is listed as Central Lyon/Georgetown/Little Rock. I guess it comes down to what way the schools involved want to be identified as.
  7. Many states have coop programs. I have been pushing this idea for several years and am very happy to see that it may finally come to fruition.
  8. No. Talking about Spalding.
  9. They lost their 5* QB. They lose their top rushers, but they bring back all of their receivers, so I’m sure there will be a high-profile quarterback transfer that would want to throw to these guys. It’s so early in the transfer season right now that you will have no idea what they will look like until August.
  10. That's an upgrade!!

  12. California has an "Open Division", but it is a two-team, one game structure. Each of the state divisions have different classes and at the end of divisional play, a board assigns a team to a "Bowl Game" which is designated by Class and Division. Since the creation of the "Open Division" in 2015, the game has usually been the winner of the Southern Section representing the south part of the state and Concord De La Sale representing the northern section of the state. I really do not like their setup as the Southern Section has too many great teams in it and they are eliminated by each other early. That section includes Mater Dei, St. John Bosco, Corona Centennial, Mission Viejo, Anaheim Servite and Orange Lutheran. They then have fourteen games with teams no one has heard of.
  13. The Star had an article about what you would do as IHSAA commissioner. I would only deal with football, but here would be my actions. - Allow for the creation of "Coop" schools. These would consist of schools too small to have a football team now yet merging with another local small school would permit them to field a team each season. I have always thought that a Loogootee/Barr Reeve football team would be a tough Class A assignment. I may be wrong, but Indiana may be the only state that is not doing this. - Semi-States would be double-headers on Saturday at neutral sites, using large high school or small college fields. - Seeding the tournament after sectionals. This idea is really gaining support throughout the country. - Similar to what Arizona has been doing for several years and Florida is starting to do next year, at the end of each season the eight best teams would play in an "Open" division. We could reduce class size back to five (eliminating Class 6A). After that day, I would retire and enjoy my football season.
  14. Below is a compilation of teams that have finished in my poll at the end of the last 18 seasons. Points are awarded based on a school's finish in the poll. Each team is awarded 25 points for finishing in the poll plus points are awarded based on their standing in the poll. For instance, a school that finishes ranked 70th in the poll will receive 56 points (25 for being in the poll and 31 for being ranked 70th). Teams are listed in their order of finish, last year's ranking, and total points. 1. 1. Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman (1) 1591 2. Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas (2) 1547 3. 24. Kentucky high school fans would probably argue that point with you, although I am sure that they would agree that this was not Kentucky's best year. Boyle County looked like an outlier early on and then the surprising upset to Covington Catholic blew that notion out of the water. Trinity basically defaulted to the top team in the state due to the fact that everyone else kept losing. Male, DuPont Manual, and St. Xavier kept losing games that they should have won. It could get interesting this weekend as Trinity plays a very good Union Ryle team. However, even with all that said, I still have a hard time buying Brownsburg anywhere above the 80-90 range. To show you how tough this can be, I watched the Alabaster Thompson-Phenix City Cental game Wednesday night and in my opinion, both would beat Brownsburg, and neither are rated. There will be a lot of changes over the next several weeks as states wind up their seasons.
  25. I need more help with Ohio than Kentucky. As yesterday's Baylor-McCallie game reminds us that a one-game analysis can leave a lot to be desired. I guess I soured on Brownsburg with the loss at HSE and close games with Ben Davis and Avon. In fact, I had Westfield top-ranked in our state and in my Top 100 and feel that if Westfield's coach had better time management skills, they could have possibly managed to win the 6A title game last Friday. BTW, Trinity beat Carmel. Oops, forget that last comment.
