In my opinion, the states are on a very similar tier nationally. I currently have three from each state ranked in my Top 100. A breakdown of the those three, which in my opinion, are the best three teams in each state reveals that neither state appears to have a team that will finish in the top fifty at the end of the season. Indiana has Ben Davis, Center Grove and Brownsburg. I was at Ben Davis Friday night for the IMG game and must say I thought the final score was not indicative of how the game was played. The two pick-six touchdowns were large, especially the David Stone 90-yard return. I had some friends who did not get seated until the second quarter and asked how Ben Davis was down that much as they seemed to control the game at that point. Also saw Center Grove play in Canton and must state that they were simply dominated by St. Edward. However, those two teams, IMG and St. Edwards are top ten teams nationally. Brownsburg is a tough call although the win over Cathedral was a statement. Illinois also has three teams ranked, Chicago Mt. Carmel, East St. Louis, and Wilmette Loyola Academy. Mt. Carmel is their best. East St. Louis is the only one that plays out-of-state competition. But since Mt. Carmel and East St. Louis played earlier this year with Mt. Carmel winning by three, it is safe to assume that they are pretty close in ability. East St. Louis beat a Baltimore St. Frances that is on a suicide mission, but was blown out this past weekend by Atascocita, a Texas team that I have in that's state top fifteen. Loyola Academy beat a Michigan team earlier this season and plays Mt. Carmel at the end of the season, so should get a pretty good feel for them at that time. In a three-game series, it would be tough to call a winner in any of three possible matchups. I have a solution to offer, why don't we get the six teams together next season at LOS to find out.

They are close. I am sure that some people will question why Our Lady of Good Counsel stayed ranked after losing to St. Edwards by nearly the same margin as Center Grove did. I watched both games and can tell you that Our Lady of Good Counsel was much more competitive against @Bobref Eagles then Center Grove was. Alot of the difference being the running game of Our Lady of Good Counsel. Center Grove's two scoring plays were a direct result of a fumble recovery at the Eagles 19, which led to a field goal, and a touchdown with twenty seconds left in the game against the Eagle defense second team. Tell Coach Moore that their win over what normally is a very good Oakland team was impressive but not sure how good Oakland will be this year. Even tomorrow night's game against Louisville Trinity has some question marks with it as Trinity was beat by Frederick Douglass last weekend, a team I saw Archbishop Hoban destroy in Canton.

An article in the Indy Star today indicated that the success factor has been changed to be a "rolling" number, i.e., that the classification of each school base on the success factor would be calculated at the end of each season, therefore, eliminating schools winning a class three years in a row. Wow, where to start. Roughly twenty years ago I was asked by Rivals to get with some other posters on their forum to compile a Top 100 for that site after Dallas Jackson was removed from their staff. That started my interest in compiling the poll for discussion and debate among others with similar interests in the national aspect of the game. Dallas Jackson soon established his own site and requested that I post exclusively on his site, which I did. In the following years, I have added other sites, including this one, to my "customer" base. My methodology is simple. I read, watch, and analyze this game on a daily basis from May to January. I am not smart enough to develop nor do I believe in algorithms. I am constantly viewing MaxPreps, rivals and other forums to gather all the information I can on teams throughout the country. I attend as many games as possible throughout the season and watch games both on TV and streaming services. For instance, next weekend I am going to Massillon, Ohio to watch four of the Cleveland area's best teams play four state champions, including Center Grove from Indiana. This does not only give me a chance to gauge those teams, but also a gauge on each state's strength. The following weekend, I will not only attend a game (most likely Warren Central at Carroll) but also watch the national games being broadcast on ESPN as part of their kickoff weekend. With all that of background, plus empirical data from prior seasons, I compile team rankings for every state, yes that includes states like Wyoming, Rhode Island, and other non-power states. From there I compile a Top 100 by looking at game results, player evaluations and the state's strength to compile the list. Hope this helps.
