I heard LaVille was in Pioneer's red zone 4 times and didn't score. How many times did Pioneer get in LaVille's redzone and not score. ?

You are correct . . .  Pioneer scored in the red zone.  LaVille could not take advantage of red zone chances.

Thus my (and I believe Coach Nowlin mentioned this, as well) theory of execution and turnovers a big difference in this game.

Yes, both teams had several players out due to injuries (or whatever).  LaVille's starting center was injured during the week in PE class according to what I heard on the internet.  Plus a couple others that were injured in week one or week two.

Still, "bad officials" and neither team at full strength aside, Pioneer won the game.  Fair and square . . .  the champ is still the champ until dethroned.

This is a high school game, not every officiating crew is the best or worst in the state.  Not one call or non-call decided that game Friday night.  The game was determined by the players and the coaches.  Heck, we need officials now and I've mentioned that before on GID.

IMHO, the score was not indicative of the way game was played with the players available.

Pioneer won this game. I would think both teams would want a rematch if the sectional pairings went that direction.

And yes, to confirm a question, the state tournament officials are assigned by the IHSAA.

  2. Watched the Pioneer-LaVille game on the internet.

Two HNAC teams battling it out ... competitive game.

Pioneer simply executed, especially in the second half and won the turnover battle, to win this game.

Panthers still unbeaten in HNAC games since the conference started.

Kudos to the both teams for a competitive game!

  3. For what it is worth . . .
Caston at Triton - Triton can do some good things with the ball . . . Comets improved, but still fall short.  Triton, 30-7

Knox at Culver - Knox is 27-9 in the last three years and are beginning to show they can put points on the board.  Coach Hendryx has not lost to Culver. That will continue in 2019. Redskins, win 35-6

North Judson at North Newton - I flipped my coin and North Newton won this round.  Newton wins a close one 28-27

Winamac at North White - This is not the Winamac a few years ago.  I think the Warriors break out here.  Winamac, 42-30

Pioneer at LaVille - Well, well . . . we've come around to what many are saying is the Game of the Week . . .  For The HNAC Championship . . .  Agreed.

    Now the questions really are:

#1 How will this class of Pioneer and LaVille Football respond in a big-game atmosphere?

#2 Can speed be taught? How do defend speed . . . with speed.  Both teams have speed.

#3 Who wins in the trenches?

#4 Who has the best Game Plan and will Executie their will?

#5 Who wins the turnover battle?

I said it earlier, the champ is the champ until determined otherwise.

Pioneer wins 35-26  ... I will follow this with, if the game comes down to kicking, LaVille has an awfully good kicker!

My gut says Pioneeer.  But Coach Howtrawser has a system building.  This is a program defining game for LaVille.  What LaVille has done in the last 6 years or so in athletics has been impressive.  A lot of positives taking place there beside just football.

I'm with Fine Print and Marshall County here . . .   Pioneer is the champ and will be the HNAC champ until determined otherwise.

    Pioneer-LaVille have played 5 times . . . Panthers won all five ... PHS outscored LaVille 244 to 40.

A year ago, it was 66-19 at Pioneer, and a couple scores for LaVille did come off the pass.

LaVille has been blown out.  I recall the first time LaVille played Pioneer and Pioneer came running down the field on kick-off and LaVille players were not expecting the hard-nosed, physical play that the Panthers brought to the field.  I saw the game on the internet.

This is a 'program defining' game for LaVille.

Right now, I see Pioneer by 3 scores.

My criteria is my opinion, just as  I stated at the very top of the thread.  But, generally speaking, yes, most of the best teams are from larger enrollments.  New Pal is one pleasant exception.

This reminds me back about 25 or so years ago, when people were wanting a Dullaghan/Ben Davis  vs.  Wright/Sheridan winner take all game.  After all, they both were cleaning up on their classes!

    Nice Poll, Staxawax . . .

Be interesting to see if you keep the poll going weekly and how things finish off come Thanksgiving Weekend.

    Enjoy the season!

    Hope Avon does well . . . .

Then state your case for a small school! I’m not seeing any that are worthy of being top 15 material. You kind of made the case for classes in your response.

    Ahh ... Avon (Class 6A).

So, are you saying that the best high school football teams in Indiana are all Large-school?

What is your criteria and I'll see if I can match your expectations.

This Top 15 is exactly why there are 6 classes in Indiana  high school football.

    How many 6A/5A schools listed?

    IMO . . .

Not much small school love here.

Bremen had 140 yards total. 20 yards or so in the second half. 5 turnovers were forced by LaVille.

Yes, my bad. The under 20 yards I was referring to was meant to be in the second half.

    Didn't write what I was thinking .....

    Well, here's my two cents:

Caston at North Judson - Just don't see Caston scoring much in this one. NJSP, 38-10.

Culver at South Central - SC won a close one last year. Feel like this will be a close one this year.  Going with the Cavs, 31-28

Knox at Rochester - Like Knox here, 21-17

Pioneer at Winamac - Pioneer bounces back, 40-0

Triton at LaVille - LaVille has to stay sharp against Triton.  Trojans have play-makers that can come up big at any point.  Lancer defense held Bremen to under 20 yards according to game announcer on the internet.  Going with the hosts, 35-10

Here's to a healthy Week #2 of high school football!

  12. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.  The LaVIlle offensive line is a new unit, learning to play together for LaVille.  They still have a long way to go before I'd say pretty good.  That is a bit overstated. They were still below average against a Bremen team that lost a bunch of talent.

The LaVille defensive side looked, and I'll use SteelCurtain 88 words here, looked "pretty good"  The LaVille defense held Bremen to under 20 yards, had an interception and a fumble recovery in the second half.

The LaVille offense has some weapons and once the timing comes together, the offense could be something special.  The specialty players have skills and the QB is another year older.

The offensive line will be key, though.  They just have to learn to play together.

I think LaVille gets Triton Friday in the home opener at Lancer Field.

  13. Bremen has a lot of holes to fill and the coaching staff knows that.

They are working with a sophomore at QB, who has difficulty throwing the football.  The Bennitt kid came in during the second half to play QB, but we didn't see much from him.

Coach Leeper and the staff will keep the Lions working to get better.  You can believe that!

    Riley

    Central

    Jimtown

    Penn

    Mishawaka

Adams v. GlenOak (This is GlenOak HS opener - They are located in Canton, Ohio).

    New Prairie

    Northridge

fact.  And Bremen would not be the first invited.

Okay . . . the can is open.

If Bremen is not the first invited, who is the first invited?

I, too, can think of other competition to invite to the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.

    Yeah, probably two or three.

    What's your opinion Barryosama?''

And, I guess while we are at it ...

Why would Bremen not be the first?

There is just too much that makes sense to invite Bremen to join the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
