  2. All:

This topic has been brought up, but I don't know if we ever got a clear answer.

Did the Hoosier North Athletic Conference decide to have a conference champion?

I realize I'm opening a can of worms because there are those on here that think that there still should be an HNAC Champion.

IMO, I just don't see how a conference champ can be determined when you have eight games not being played.

No disrespect to anyone. . . . Just say in!

Ill take the Bluejays at +18.  I'll even donate a portion to the GID.  A small portion....Any takers?

    Triton at NJSP (+18)

So if you are a man of your word . . .  and I take it you are.  And IF and I emphasize the word IF you were a betting man, you would be making that donation to GID.

The line was NJSP +18 . . .  the final score was NJSP 30, Triton 12.  That is exactly 18 points.  The house wins all ties.  See the donation link as The GID is still taking donations to cover expenses for the year.

Let's see how we did on the others:

Glenn at LaVille (+27). If you took Glenn, You would have won.

From what I watched on a live stream, the game was much closer than some expected.  I think jh had his pick at 31-17, if I remember correctly.

LaVille had the ball inside the red zone three times - lost the ball on downs once, missed a field goal and threw an interception near the goal line.

The Lancers definitely had their chances.

The LV defense was the difference, IMO, 2 INTS, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 punts, and held on downs

What a game . . . fans in attendance got their monies worth.

Not a work of art for either team, but also got to remember there are a lot of young puppies playing out there.  A pair of freshman QBs being asked to direct their team.

    Caston at Culver (-8)

    Culver wins 36-12.  Culver wins.

    Pioneer at Knox (-9)

    Pioneer wins 38-20. Pioneer wins.

    West Central at Winamac (+24)

Winamac 35-12 ..... If you took West Central, you win.

    Remember These Are Just Predictions.

Does anyone know if the Knox / LaVille game was broadcast by either team and if the game is available out there somewhere?  I couldn't find it last night, but would like to watch it if possible.

I don't think Pioneer will have any trouble with Knox.  Won't be close.

I also think Triton hang with NJ for a while.

    Hey FinePrint!

Nice to have you back on the link.

Not sure if it is still active, but if it is, the LaVille at Knox game may be there.

  6. Let's put it a clearer . . .  LaVille was far better prepared.  Knox undsiciplined team and not ready for LaVille's style of offense  Several times, LaVille simply beat the Knox defense because they were not in position.  I say that after watching the game film.  Snaps left, right, and over the head of their quarterback.  More yapping going on instead of helping each other out and making adjustments.

LaVille has had its share of injuries, as well.  LaVille also had a couple players injured during the game.

Let's give credit where credit is due.  LaVille flat outplayed Knox on this night.

Both teams had to deal with injuries.  Knox had at least double the players that LaVille had available and still won by what, three touchdowns.

Kudos to the LaVille coaches and players for a job well done.

    This weeks HNAC final scores

    Caston 36, North White 0

    LaVille 42, Knox 20

    Pioneer 48, Triton 6

    Winamac 28, Culver 12

Culver Academy v. North Judson-San Pierre, Saturday

Congratulations to Coach Porter and the Comets! First time since 2016 Caston wins two games in a season. Keep up the good work Comets!

Congratulations to Coach Hostrawser and the Lancers! First time since 2016 LaVille starts off 3-0, big win tonight over a good Knox team.

Any big plays at any of the other HNAC games Friday?

Heard Knox ran one back for 90-something yards on a kick off return for a TD.  Also heard that LaVille's passing game keeps putting up big numbers - three more TDs for the freshman quarterback.  Any word on if the Doyle kid has a chance to play this season?

You really think winamac would have beat Knox in week 1 or laville would have beat pioneer?  Cmon!!!!   If a team finishes season undefeated in the conference games they played they are the champs in my book.   Triton plays pioneer tonight.    You really think Triton has a gripe at championship after pioneer puts 50 on them????

Doesn't matter what I think. Bottom line is: 8 HNAC  games are not going to be played.

Let's ask this from another angle.

If baseball season is not played due to COVID, is there a Mr. Baseball? Can you pick an all-state baseball team with no games played?

    C'mon man.

I don't understand why there would be any conversation about no conference champion.  In next 4 weeks it will be obvious by records.  I understand the laville and winamac situation but still makes zero sense.

How does it make zero sense to not have a conference champion in any sport if not ALL the games are played with ALL the teams in the conference playing each other?

Winamac will not play two HNAC teams

LaVille will not play two HNAC teams

Pioneer will not play two HNAC teams

Triton will not play one HNAC team

Knox will not play one HNAC team

That's eight HNAC games that will have not been played.

Caston, Culver, and North Judson-San Pierre are the only three teams that get to play all seven HNAC games.

Seems like lot crapping on laville. Completely disagree.   If laville doesn't turn ball over it will be close.   I'll take Knox in close one 19-17.

Mayo77 I do not see a lot of crapping on LaVille here. I see complimentary remarks about some talented Knox players.  I also see it made mentioned several times that LaVille has suffered injuries.  When you have a starting QB go down like LaVille has, that is a big blow to a team.  Yet the young man that has been asked to play the position seems like he has done a very admirable job.  I also see that it was mentioned that a two-way player like James Bettcher was injured.  That is another huge loss for the Lancers on both sides of the ball.  James Bettcher is a class kid with a class family. Period!

Doyle's injury affected three spots on that Lancer team - QB, LB, and long snapper.  But from what I've seen the 'next man up' folks are doing a very good job when thrown into the fire.  The depth of this team might be tested, but the heart of this LaVille team is strong!

Knox is just a better team on paper right now.  The Lancers are young in spots and that youth will be tested.

    Those are facts and uncontested.

    Pioneer @ Triton (-32)

    Winamac @ Culver (-16)

    CMA @ N. Judson (+6)

    N. White @ Caston (+17) . . .  Comets win game #2 under Coach Porter! 2016 last time Caston won two games in a season.  Keep up the good work Comets and Coach Porter!

I think with winamac it's 250 per school, masks are required to be worn for full game, fans enter separate sides, they let visitors out first then fans on winamac side are let out by sections

    No visiting players after game.

No visiting players after the game ... that is not 100% accurate. LaVille players visited with friends, family, etc., after the Winamac game.

I've heard that some schools are asking that no fans loiter around the locker room area and wait for their player(s) away from the locker room area.  I heard that is also not happening.

It's kind of like masking and distancing . . . If the guideline is not followed,  why make announcements, post signs, and have a guideline anyway.  Some people just laugh at the guideline.

I will say announcers are making announcements, but people are going to do what they want to do.

Be curious if schools are asking fans to leave if they don't abid by the guidelines?

Either we have the guidelines and they are followed or not.

  14. Hey, hey HNAC Nation:

Nice to have everyone back playing again!

    Few comments following last week:

What a game between Knox and North Judson-San Pierre.  Kudos to the Redskin defense for putting up the goose egg.  Never saw that coming.

Even though I picked Winamac to beat LaVille in a low-scoring game, the total score wasn't too far off.  I picked 14-10 . . . final was 17-6.  After halftime, neither team could move the ball from I saw on video.  Lancer defense, which has been traditionally strong since Coach Hostrawser took over, was the difference in the game.

Too bad Pioneer and LaVille won't see each other in the regular season.  From what I've heard Panthers are the real deal.

     * * * * *

Here are my picks this week:

    Caston at LaVille (+28)

    Culver at Triton (+10)

    Knox at John Glenn (-9)

    NJSP at Winamac (-10)

    Pioneer at Attucks (+35)

I have no idea what to expect from LaVille. Doyle being out hurts them quite a bit. Its their first game too.

Winamac must hold onto ball (had some fumble issues but recovered them) and their line has to continue to get better. Olds, Schultz and Podell have good exp. Kiefer has exp... Roudebush and Day played a lot last year but struggled some and this will be their first test this year. Schwartz's first ol start was last week and did fine.

Tough to predict the Winamac-LaVille game.

The Doyle injury affects three parts of LaVille's game - QB, OLB, and Long Snapper.

They have a couple guys that could step in and run the controls - Czarnecki and Wagoner.  They also have a freshman that has a lot of good qualities.

Long snapper is an adjustment for anyone and that execution could be a challenge until whoever steps in gets comfortable and the timing is down.

IMO defense will probably be the toughest place for someone to step in.  Doyle is a very solid defensive player and his experience, leadership, and prescence on the field will be missed.

Be interesting to see how the young puppies play in their first game and how the guys that are asked to step in at QB, Long Snapper, and defense

LaVille will be asking several new players to step in to fill the gaps for eight players that graduated.  The line will be young . . . the conditioning will be crucual . . . the timing in the backfield and the routes with the new QB will all be interesting to see how the Lancers handle the changes.

Coach Hostrawser is one of the best, though, when it comes to getting his team ready and getting the best out of the players he has available.

I called Winamac winning this first game due to several unknowns for LaVille.  I would not, however, be surprised to find out that these hungry Lancers stepped in to get the job done!

    Let the games begin!

With three weeks in the books and the start of Week #4, there is the chance to have all eight teams in action under the Friday Night Lights!

A quick question before we get into predicting Week #4 Games -

With the quarantining of various teams, will there be an HNAC Champion Crowned?

Not trying to be a smart guy here . . .  Just asking a simple question.

Maybe it has been discussed . . .  Maybe the answer is an obvioys 'No' 2020 HNAC Champion Crowned since all teams could not play the entire conference schedule.
