Yeah, your right, I will say 2 TD’s.

So if you look at LaVille's schedule, based on both teams playing healthy each week of the regular season, who do you see as LaVille's top four opponents?

Just curious  what your thoughts are.

PH is one of the worst programs in the state. They haven't had a winning season since before 1994, which is as far back as John Harrell's site goes. They also haven't even had a .500 season since 2007. They were 4-7 last season, which was their best record since 2013. I wouldn't start making predictions based solely on a scrimmage against a struggling program.

Does anyone know if the large Amish population in that area has effected the PH program?

Really?  Very quiet around here compared to many seasons at this point.

    Hey FinePrint . . .

Yeah, I'm noticing the crickets as well.

The only scrimmage I could not find was North Judson-San Pierre.

    Caston at Northfield

    North Miami at Culver Community

    Knox at Tippecanoe Valley

    LaVille at Prairie Heights

    Northwestern at Pioneer

    Manchester at Triton

    Winamac at Rochester

Anyone out there know who North Judson-San Pierre scrimmages?

  3. Ok since $$$$ was brought up earlier, I did some research on the cost of the footballs in question.

According to Team Issue, the cost of those with the NFHS stamp are selling for $84.99 with a variety of a colored football outline on the ball.

Team Issue also sells a 'Youth' football for $69.99

The Wilson GST 'Game Ball' is selling for $109.95 on the Wilsom website.

Wilson also had a couple additional balls on the website.

A Wilson 'Game Football' with custom text is selling for $124.95 on the Wilson Website.

A 'Prime' Wilson GST Football goes for $149.95 on the Wilson website.

    I am NOT a salesman.

I am NOT here to pitch any product or sell any footballs.

Just doing some further research on the subject at hand for general knowledge.

  4. Been a few days since we had any posts . . .

Any first-week happenings in the land of the Hoosier North?

Anybody pick up any move-ins or any incoming freshmen making a run for some playing time?

Just a week away from the scrimmages, ya'll!

Speaking of scrimmages, was driving by a local high school last week and the truck was at the football field.  Not sure if they were replacing lights, or fixing lights, but the truck arm was up and the guy working in the bucket was tending to a bank of lights!

A good sign that Friday Night Lights are drawing near . . .

Looking forward to a potential LCC-Andrean matchup in regionals.  I don't think those two have matched-up in three decades ... if ever.

Would you be surprised if I said that Andrean could have some competition for the sectional championship?  Maybe a Bremen or a LaVille?

In fact, a preview of where Bremen and LaVille stand following the conclusion of the 2021 season will be in Week #1 of the IHSAA Regular season - Bremen at LaVille.

Will see what the Lions and Lancers have in this early-season battle of the county neighbors

  6. All:

Been hearing some rumblings that the Andrean 59ers are the team to beat in Class 2A this season.

Any other challengers from the northern part of Indiana?

Who do you feel will be the representatives from the south to challenge Andrean in the state finals come Thanksgiving weekend?

    What say you?

  7. All:

I see that Caston has a new coach.

    What happened to Coach Porter?

Seems to me that it is hard to have any consistency in a program if a school is looking for a new coach every other year.

Not good for the kids, not good for the school.

For Caston this makes four coaches since 2014.

Welcome back Coach Ulerick!  He had the last winning seasons at Caston!

Coaches and Teachers are getting harder and harder to find.

If a coach wants to stick around and dedicate themselves to building a program, can the administration/parents at least give them a few years to try and build a program?

  8. With open enrollment in Indiana, I have seen a couple different flyers in my mailbox.

If the kids do play sports at the high school level and the family does not change residence and/or there are no red flags regarding contact between a particular coach and in-coming student-athlete from a travel, AAU, club team, they have to be aware that kids may receive limited eligibilty or full elibility for a period of one calendar year.  Most incoming freshmen can receive full eligibility if they change schools at the semester and have not yet played a spring sport.

At least that is the way I understand how the IHSAA works.

  9. Thank you Coach Park and to the Goshen Football Coaching Staff for your time, effort, and dedication to the Goshen Football Program!

It is a special time when former alumni can come back and coach in a community they grew up in.

Numbers always make the difference . . . It is really too bad that not more kids desire to play football.  However, not everyone is made to play a particular sport.

We appreciate the time you spent away from your family, the dedication in game planning, and time spent in and out of season to help the young men apart of your program be the best they could be.

Best of you luck to you moving forward and best of luck to your successor.

  10. This is an honest question . . .  Not trying to be a smart guy.

I was asked and do not know the answer. Appreciate the response . . . .

In the state tournament, should the score reach 35 points or more and the clock runs . . . . Does the clock continue to run (except for injury, timeout, end of period, or by the officials) if the score goes below the 35 points?  So if it runs at 35 or more, but then goes below 35 does the clock contiune to run?

    Thanks!

  11. I give the folks at LaVille some credit.  The field, though not in the best shape, was in much better shape for Friday's game against Pioneer.

It looked like they rolled the field and cut the grass very short.

I was on the field after the game and it was muddy in spots, but not like it was following the Bremen game.

Congratulations to Coach Will Hostrawser and the LaVille Football team.

These boys came to play!  A confident, focused bunch of Lancers came out of the locker room.

I have seen Pioneer play several times and the Panthers were flat outplayed - on both sides of the ball - on Friday.

The LaVille linemen controlled the line of scrimmage and Paul DeWitt hit the holes hard and fast.

Lucas Plummer was effective and ran the offense from the QB spot and was very effective in the punt game and was solid with two field goals and PATS.

Ross Wagoner was key for LaVille.

And the offensive line pushed Pioneer back, allowing an effective running game.

This was truly a team win, not just the boys mentioned here . . . . This was a hungry, impressive group that Coach Hostrawser brought to the field on this particular Friday.

Good Luck to the Lancers against Andrean in the regional round.

  12. Wow!

After reading the internet, both Bremen and LaVille had 100-yard rushers.  I would have never though that would happen considering the rain that slowed the track at LaVille.

There were probably more turf monster tackles due to the soggy conditions than there were clean jerseys by the end of the night!

Game was as advertised between Breme and LaVille . . .  low-scoring, especially due to the weather.  LaVille's defense kept its sixth opponent to one score or less.

Was a bit surprised that LaVille took the opening kick right down the field.  Seemed like the Lancers came out ready to play and Bremen was hesitant out of the game.

Read on the internet in some article that Bremen had 4 total yards from scrimmage in the first half.  Course turnovers didn't do Bremen any favors.

Was impressed with the DeWitt kid from LaVille and the Moser kid from Bremen.  Both run hard and can break away for big runs.

This game was won in the trenches.  LaVille outplayed Bremen on both lines.

Now LaVille has to get over the stigma of The Almighty Pioneer.

It was a good game back in September.   Pioneer was not at 100% then, but that is different now.

I would also mention that LaVille is different now as well.

This will be a low-scoring game and may come down to special teams, especially if Pioneer continues to go for two-points after any touchdowns scored.

    Kicking game edge to LaVille.

  13. Yes. Plymouth has turf.

I could see LaVille moving its game next week if Lancer Field takes too much of a beating.

But, as was mentioned, got to take care of business against Bremen first.

Not going to be an easy task.

With a muddy track, points will be hard to come by.  One of the reasons I picked LaVille by three.

Does Bremen have a kicker?  If so, could he hit from inside 40 if the conditions get rough.

Last year, I would say yes to LaVille's kicker.  This year, I'm not so sure.

Special teams could end up winning this game for one of these teams!

  14. So according to a tweet on the @LVAthletics account, LaVille will host Bremen.

Not sure if the coming rains in northern Indiana on Thursday and Friday will change that plan or not. I guess time will tell.

    Delphi (7-3) at Pioneer (8-2)

With Pioneer getting kids back and the team coming together, I'm picking the Panthers in this one.  Probably two touchdowns.

    Bremen (7-3) at LaVille (7-2)

This game is intriguing, prior to a couple of weeks ago LaVille struggled putting points on the board.

Bremen, meanwhile, averages 28 points per game.  The questions are . . .  can LaVille's defense keep Bremen to two scores or less? Can LaVIlle somehow muster three scores against the Lions?  I think this one, just like Week #1, is close.  LaVille by three.

Why don't they throw with Plummer more? He can chuck it.

I don't recall how many seniors LaVille has but I don't think it was that many like 3 if that.

According to MaxPreps, LaVille has thrown the ball more this year than last year.  They also have a few more folks catching the ball this season, so the ball is being spread around a little more.  Six players caught the ball last year, while 10 different receivers have a catch this season.

I would also add that Plummer is just as dangerous and athletic throwing as he is running the ball . . . and only a sophmore.

Off To The Semifinal Round With The Following Scheduled Pairings:

    Delphi (7-3) at Pioneer (8-2)

    Bremen (7-3) at LaVille (7-2)

    WHO YA GOT?

*No word yet on if the Bremen-LaVille game will be held at LaVille due to poor field conditions a couple weeks ago when LaVille had to move its final game of the regular season to Cavalier Field in Culver.   Time will tell . . .

Who cares?  If you put 8 of the worst teams in the class in one sectional and they all have exactly 12.5% chance to win it, that doesn't make the sectional relevant.  Competitive, perhaps, but not relevant.  The other sectionals have at least one top-ten ranked team, if not two.  As I stated earlier, it would be a tremendous upset for whoever wins 34 to advance further which is what makes it irrelevant.

Yes.  Certainly we want to stay focused on the least relevant sectional in 2A North!!

Since you brought it up and wish to continue the discussion about how irrelavant the field in 34 really is, let's take a look at all of the 2A North Sectionals.

According to Harrell, 36 would prove to be the most irrelavant . . .  far behind the field in 34.

In 34 three teams are given at least a 21% chance of winning the sectional.

The other three have clear-cut favorites with only a small chance of the remainder of the field to even have a shot at winning at sectional. Tipton and Eastside are the only teams given a chance according to Harrell.  To me it is more relavant to at least have a chance to win, than to have little to any chance at all.

On any given night, an upset can and will happen.  But I guess that is why we play the games!

I guess that is why everyone is included in the state tournament draw and not just a selected number from the schools in the state that offer football.
