So, I keep hearing how great the run defense is for Laville's #1s. Just wondering if the #1s were on the bench for the 1st half? Just sayin...

Well, I would say a hearty kudos to Triton's offense and Mr. Schuh and Mr. Shively on making plays.

It has been mentioned on this thread that Schuh might be the best back that LaVille sees.

One could see why. Schuh has great vision, has escability, power and speed to help him breakaway.

I think it was well documented on this link that Triton would score, jusy how much ?

I said I thought 17 was a bit much.  The 14 that Triton put on LaVille's #1 defense is a great compliment to Trioton and their coaching staff!

Be it #1 or not, adjustments were made and Triton was not able to score after tying the game at 14-14.

In fact, before the JV teams were put in in the fourth quarter, I only remember Triton having one first down in the second half.  That might have been on a penalty by LaVille?

Triton will be succesful this season.  Nice team!  Great heart!

I was impressed with Laville's quarterback last year. All around great athlete. He can run, he can tackle, he can block, he can kick,......AND HE CAN PASS!!!!! Seriously tho, with the ball in his hands, he can break a big run at any time, or extend pass plays to hit a guy deep. You wanna win the game, gotta contain him in my opinion.

    Well said!

I was equally impressed last season and then the first week of the season I watched the LaVille QB throw four touchdown passes.

On one of his passing TDs, he scrambled, then threw into traffic and the receiver made a nice catch on the sideline.

    He is a gifted athlete!

Anthony Schuh is likely the best back LaVille will see in the regular season.  (Last week he went for 219 yards on 8 carries - 4 TD's)  Triton's O-Line is experienced and good sized.  I don't think it's a stretch to say that the Trojans could pound out a 10-12 play drive that would put up points.  I don't see Triton beating the Lancers, but I'd be surprised if LaVille pitched a shutout.

LaVille's back, I think his name is DeWitt, rushed for over 230 yards and two touchdowns last week.

In the big picture of things, how was the defense that both these offenses playing against?

If you are playing a defense that is young and/or inexperienced with any experienced offense, that offense is probably going to have edge, and open holes for the back to make big gains.

And, I do believe that LaVille's O-Line is experienced and good sized, as well.

So it may be which team can make the big play - go verticle in the passing game, force timely turnovers, maybe a special teams score?

If I understand correctly, are both LaVille and Triton's defense pretty good?

If so, we should be in for a great game!

I was at the game vs Bremen, my dad is a Laville coach. Bremen isn’t very good at all. I know Triton returned pretty much there whole team also. RB went for over 200 yards. 17 might be much but I still think they score between 10-17. Laville Defense is very very good against the run but I’ll give Triton some credit at moment

Yep, you are right.  LaVIlle's run defense is solid.

Be interesting to see how they do against a team that has a better than average passing game.

As I mentioned, I just don't see 17 on LaVille's #1 defense in this game.

    Certainly be an interesting game.

Laville vs Triton - Laville 35-17

NJP vs Caston - NJP 45-7

Rochester vs Knox - Rochester 28-21

South Central vs Culver -Culver 31-7

Winamac vs Pioneer - Pioneer 21-7

    Jmumm1235 . . .  Are those 17 points you giving Triton against LaVille's #1 defense?

From what I saw in the first week against Bremen, LaVille's #1 defense is pretty stingy.

Not saying Triton can't score against LaVIlle, just not sure they score 17 against LaVille's #1 defense.

Nothing to take away from the Triton game except that they executed the running game well against a sub-par defense.   Starters only played one series in the second half and that was a one play 70 yard scoring run.

This Friday will expose any Triton weaknesses on both sides of the ball.

    Hey FinePrint!

Any early prediction for Friday's game between LaVille and Trion ?

No way Bremen gets beat 54-6!  Too proud of a program!

No disrespect towards anyone . . .  proud programs have taken it on the chin before rebounding.

From what we are hearing this LaVille team is expecting to make a run to Lucas Oil come November.

That step begins on Friday against a familiar foe in Bremen and, I'm sure a one step at a time approach by the coaches.

Based on what I am hearing, LaVille should win in dominating fashion.

LaVille lost 1 senior and he did not start on either side of the ball.  All 22 starters are back, they are bigger, stronger, in better shape than last year, and this this is a group who gave up an average of 6.7 points a game.  The offense is getting a boost, former John Glenn head coach Justin Bogunia is the new offensive coordinator, and Coach Hostrawser’s defense scheme is on point every game.  They also have more depth, which is something they haven’t had in the past.   Bremen lost a lot of key players, the Triton game last year was close because LV basically played with a JV roster due to covid issues.  Pioneer, Glenn and Knox both lost key players.  That is why I feel like NJ will have the best shot.  I am sticking to my prediction, undefeated going into the sectional matchup against Andrean.  So we shall see…

I've said it before, depth is important! I think we all agree it makes it less distracting when there is a #2 capable to step in.

Think your point of covid issue v. Triton shows us merit in the depth case as you say that LaVille had to use JV players to step in. Good for those guys that stepped up and helped the team when the team needed them.

I hope LaVille stays healthy all season so we'll see if your projection holds true!

If a team can pass, that is where my concern is.  LV’s defense statistical against the run was lights out last year.  They have 11 returners back from that defense, plus they actually have some depth this year.  They are bigger, stronger and looked to be much better conditioned.   As far as opponents, NJ will challenge them for the top spot.  I don’t think any team will be able to run against this D with much success, and definitely don’t think any team on the schedule will be able to score enough by running to beat them.  They gave up a TD a game last season, so they are going to be tough to beat.

Ok, so what I am reading indicates that the expectation is that North Judson would be LaVille's lone challenger this season.

To be honest, I find that hard to believe.  Bremen was a one score game twice, John Glenn was a one score game. Triton was a one score game in overtime and Knox was a one point game.  They split the season with Pioneer, even though they dominated the Panthers in the sectional.

Hope the team stays healthy all season so we can see how they play with higher expectations and legit chance to sweep the regular season and win a conference championship!

I thought Pioneer looked pretty good last night. In fact, watching it I thought they might be getting dismissed a bit prematurely.  They are very young but there is talent.  Still think Laville and NJ probably the favs, but would not surprise me one bit to see Pioneer on top ……again🤷‍♂️

Well, if you are on the same bandwagon as AG, then one could suggest that Northernwestern is not the strongest competition to gauge the season on.  Northwestern did not win a game last season and has won six games in the last five years.

I'm not dismissing Pioneer as one of the best teams in the conference.  In fact, I see Pioneer as a threat again to win this conference.  This season could be very interesting each week of the season among conference teams/games.

I'm sure the LaVille coaching staff and Pioneer coaching staff found positives that their respective teams had, along with ittems that their teams need to improve on following the scrimmage Friday.

I would imagine the most positive thing that came away from scrimmages Friday night would be teams coming away healthy.  As we all know injuries play a key role every season.  Especially if teams face depth issues!

  18. So just curious -

In looking at Indiana High School football teams on MaxPreps the last few years, some teams have statistics posted and some do not.

Is there an expectation that teams do this, or that is up to each school whether they post statistics or not?
