  1. I don’t disagree with your last statement at all. That’s why I say it goes more in depth. Schools like I mentioned have the same abilities to control enrollment just don’t have the mass populations like Cathedral or Chatard (with the exception of Park Tudor). A bump up doesn’t just affect the power teams it affects some who have had little to no success. all in love Captain hopefully you know by now my absolute respect and that won’t change in my eyes if we slightly disagree. Maxes is still a stud! Hah! bTW I like the success factor. I do feel however it should be utilized like the IFCA originally proposed every 4 years not 2 years.
  2. This might be a small area where may disagree (believe me that’s okay I totally respect you and your opinions). I say this because many when thinking of P/P many think Cathedral or Chatard. What about Providence, Bishop Noll, Oldenburg, Park Tudor? They can control their enenrollment numbers and student population make-up but doesn’t translate like you would think for Cathedral or Chatard. No where near the success and bumping them up wouldn’t be the correct action. There is a lot to be said about socioeconomics and geography too. Being in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, or Evansville is a lot different than where these schools are located. Just food for thought.
  3. Your coaching experience is? Not to be mean but if you are stating what Coach Marshall should or shouldn’t be doing. Have you walked in his footsteps? Heave you been a Head Coach at this level? Do you know day to day what he is instilling into his players?
  4. I would also venture to say that @crimsonace1, @CaptainHook, and Other be oal fans and parents would say the weight lifting and conditioning program Coach Ralph has brought into New Pal has been a huge difference maker!
  5. I would imagine he spent more of his time making them a brotherhood and:or more comfortable with each other. They have played against each other and it in different schemes. Try to get them to gel and trust each other!
  6. I can give an advantage that A public school like Center Grove utilizes. They have a youth league that runs their wing T from an early age. Starting 2nd grade. That is 7 years of running a the same system the HS does. Carson’s Steele has likely known the entire playbook since at least 5th grade (just a guess in my part). Take for example Chatard. 10 deanery schools let’s say 8 play football. 1 team may run I formation another spread, another wishbone, another fkexbone, another T formation. Now these kids come to Chatard all have to learn Soread and a 4-4 defense lets say as Freshman but not all of them have been running that from 2nd grade. Let me remind you I have no affiliation with Chatard. I have no idea what the CYO teams are running these days. I do know if you have multiple offenses and defenses ran and the kids have to learn the discipline of the system as freshman it is an advantage that schools that ru the same system from 2nd to 12th enjoy. I know CG does this. @crimsonace1 and @CaptainHook can say if New Pal does the same ( I have much respect for both gentlemen and I think they know that). I am an unbiased observer. i will say there are even advantages some public schools enjoy over other public schools
  7. I know you want to make Perception Reality but it really isn't. You have Heritage Hills. The kids from that elementary and middle school system will go to Heritage Hills. The student body may ebb and flow. I am in no way affiliated with Chatard. That being said there are reasons the student body doesn't grow and it has nothing to do with athletics and padding their trophy shelf. Chatard sits 3 miles from Cathedral, 8 miles from Brebeuf, 5 miles from Lawrence Central, 7 miles from Lawrence North, 5 miles from Heritage Christian, 4 miles from North Central. There are feeder schools into Chatard 10 North deanery schools K-8 to be exact. The High SChools mentioned above all may have kids from those deanery schools 10 elementary schools especially Cathedral and Brebeuf. It is easy to sit there and say they control their enrollment because they aren't growing or have lost students and that is your perception. Reality is Chatard is trying to gain kids from their deanery schools to go to Chatard. However some opt to go to Cathedral (be it a legacy student or whatever) some opt to go to Brebeuf (be it legacy student or whatever) and some opt going to a public school (Perhaps their parents can't afford the tuition of the other 3). Regardless Chatard does not sits in an area with a lot of High Schools rather close by.
  8. I want to ask you some serious questions. How many elementary schools and Middle schools are in Heritage Hills schools system (I believe South Spencer County School system but not positive)? Do each of these elementary schools field a football team and play against each other or do they have a youth league? Does the middle school play against other school districts nearby? Do they run their Flexbone in the youth league or elementary school and at the middle school?
  9. I can also understand your sarcastic behavior. Not one time in my posts have I made any argument with any numbers to make anything invalid. You made an assumption. There were comments by a HH person that Chatard had more cheerleaders than they had football players (Inaccurate statement by the way). I gave roster numbers and total enrollment nothing more nothing less. I also if you take the time to look back at my posts in this thread have NEVER stated that P/P don't have some advantages. The only statement that I have made was that P/P do not control their enrollment numbers to stay in a specific classification for sports. I can definitely talk about advantages that P/P have over Public schools. I can also talk about advantages Public schools have over P/P. I can talk about advantages that some Public schools have over other Public Schools. Instead of assuming (you know the old saying of assume is) I was using those numbers and trying to go on the defensive attack perhaps go back and re-read my posts. With the numbers I did give I can not presume the number of boys or the number of girls in that total enrollment. Not all schools are split 50/50 among boys and girls. So I can't give those figures. In my personal opinion current Freshman rosters have no bearing on the current Varsity rosters. On occasion you will see a tremendous Freshman play at the 3A-6A for teams. There are far more Freshman playing at the 1A-2A level on varsity rosters. There are on occasions some special Freshman that play for various teams. Charlie Spegal was one that was tremendous his Freshman year for Delta. I am not quite sure what is so hard to understand about that.
  10. No I gave their Varsity Rosters (all teams involved) I didn't differentiate between any of them be it HH, Danville, Chatard, New Pal, Valpo, or Center Grove. Surely you can understand that. I am sure all teams mentioned have a Freshman team and Freshman Roster. I am also unsure why you are being defensive about the numbers I have given. Nowhere in my posts have I said there weren't advantages. I will say (and I think @Irishman will agree) it is not only P/P that have advantages. There are Public schools that have advantages over other public schools when you look at Socioeconomics etc.
  11. I didn't skew any figures I gave. I gave the roster and the total enrollment. I will also throw this raw data out there. New Palestine - total enrollment 1175 / Roster 58 (including 5 Freshman) Valparaiso - total enrollment 2054 / Roster 106 (including 11 Freshman) Center Grove - total enrollment 2521 / Roster 102 (Including 8 Freshman) Building a new bigger school or even adding on to the school isn't always a possibility. Many factors go in property size, cost vs funds. Keep in mind these schools charge a tuition for a reason and that tuition goes towards day to day operations of the school. Money isn't just laying around to build that all of the time. Many things that they do get come from donations to the school. Some P/P have in fact added on to their school to accommodate for more students. Some examples would be Roncalli and Cathedral which both have grown exponentially over the years from 3A enrollment numbers to 4A enrollment numbers. It's not as simple as Build a new or bigger school.
  12. State Finals Preview and Official Program listed them at 77 players on the roster. Not really concerned about the Freshman roster because the freshman didn't play in the game on Friday at LOS. Don't know the percentage of students of the 700 that are boys or girls so I won't speculate. I just gave raw numbers that were available. https://ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/news media/2019-20/2019-20 Football Preview.pdf?ver=2019-11-25-215729-050
  13. I believe Chatard is at about 11% roster 77 enrollment of 700. I think Danville was at about 7% roster 59 enrollment 801.
  14. I personally think this is the biggest misconception. Yes they can say who is in and who is out. They can and do control their enrollment numbers but it is not to stay in 3A instead of 4A, 2A instead of 3A, 1A instead of 2A. They control their enrollment because of the space that they have to hold the students. Some of these schools just don't have the room for students beyond what their enrollment currently is. The building can't hold more than what their current enrollment is. Some have added to their school building and you see their enrollment grow because of it. Others have not. The decision to control the number of students to stay in a certain classification doesn't even cross the minds of the administration. What is on their mind is classroom sizes and number of teachers for the students enrolled/enrolling. If you look at the schools I think you will see they are pretty much at the max of what the school can take. Now I will 100% agree with the points @Irishman is making about the make up of the student bodies. I just feel some totally miss the point of why these schools control their enrollment and it has nothing to do with what sports classification they will be in. It should also be pointed out that when it comes to Private schools they recruit every student that comes into the door be it a football athlete, member of the band or Orchestra, or a student that competes in no sports at all. They recruit the students simply because if they didn't they wouldn't be able to keep the school open. The schools mentioned aren't just great at sports, they do well in the academic field also.
  15. Getting back to you and I still am of the same opinion. I will explain why also. Carmel had 212 yards rushing and Valparaiso's defense is very stout against the run. They did a marvelous job against New Pal's rushing attack, but they had a break down on a couple of plays that led to Spegal touchdowns (Spegal has done that all year and had more of them against other opponents). A game between Carmel and Valpo would definitely be a defensive battle, however where Valpo stood out to me was in Special Teams their punting was tremendous. They can pin a team deep play good defense and get very good field position. Do I know for a fact? Nope just my own opinion. As for New Pal and Center Grove. I have already explained that. New Palestine has beaten Center Grove 31-9 last year with Steele and this year at Center Grove 28-9. Yes it was week 2. However Center Grove and New Pal have a common opponent at the end of the year. Week 9 had Cathedral defeating CG 14-9 in a tight game and week 13 had New Pal defeating Cathedral 35-10. Yes Center Grove improved so did New Palestine. I think you would have the same result. As for a potential Carmel vs New Pal. Carmel's defense I would say is on par with Valpo. New Pal still managed a 27-20 victory against a very stout defense. Carmel had its own Offensive struggles with Center Grove's defense, and I think New Pal's defense gets largely overlooked because of the rushing records etc of Spegal. Their defense was the real deal. I will also say that New Pal became very 1 dimensional after their QB went down which I doubt anyone would expect for that to happen. They still overcame adversity and held on to win 27-20.
  16. Just my personal observation. valpo is a better team than Carmel and New Pal is still a better team than CG. After 1 half of the eyeball test.
  17. Just my personal observation. valpo is a better team than Carmel and New Pal is still a better team than CG. After 1 half of the eyeball test.
  18. Yes both got better. That being said this is all @DT needs to look at: week 2 New Pal 28 Center Grove 9 at CG week 9 Cathedral 14 Center Grove 9 at Tech week 13 New Pal 35 Cathedral 10 at New Pal the play on the field and not future Soph’s future prospect was determined.
  19. Digging deep in the upper intestine I swear to god he does
  20. I’ll admit Valpo impressed me. The 2 best teams played in 5A and we can say that because they both made it there. i agree with your statement about turnovers. I mentioned in an earlier thread that Coach Ralph mentioned their goal is 3 turnovers from the defense. They find ways to get turnovers and are well coached. @DT New Pal has beaten Center Grove decisively with Steele and without Steele. Not just a little but decisively. New Pal has been the better team hands down
  21. I did watch the 2nd half. At the end of the 3rd and most of the 4th the Cathedral defense was getting wore down. Granted untimely turnovers by the Irish Offense led to the Irish defense being in the field more. That is what New Pal has done force a turnover keep relentlessly pounding you with Spegal to see if your defense can tackle him well for 4 qtrs. I mentioned in the interview with Coach Ralph he said the goal is to get a minimum of 3 turnovers from the defense and keep feeding the ball to Spegal locking up the lineman and LB’s with their O-line and getting Spegal into the secondary and seeing if the can continue to tackle him well for 4 qtrs. I have a feeling the goal is no different for this game. Sure you can get stops but can you do it for 4 qtrs. They also have very good team speed. Even though they have 2 way players they get stronger as the game wears on (testament to their conditioning). I think you will find after the game is over that Even though you saw things on film from New Pal vs Cathedral that the Irish were pretty darn good just New Pal has a special disciplined team. Same can be said for Center Grive who was wore down by the Dragons. I do expect a good game with Nee Pal wearing the Vikings down.
  22. I’m having doubts that you watched the game. To start off With him not moving is a testament to the game plan New Pal had. They were providing help and neutralizing the NG very rarely did they leave him 1 on 1 with an O-lineman. Secondly did you miss the play where the DT you say didn’t move burst through hitting the QB in the backfield and took the ball from the QB. him being pushed back into the secondary is what NP O-lone is capable of doing. The New Pal O-line is very disciplined, very strong, has excellent foot work, and excellent technique. This has been something I have noticed on film since Coach Ralph has been Head Coach at Nee Pal. Considering Coach Ralph was an All State O-lineman and considered a top 25 O-lineman coming out of St. X Cincy and then went on to be All ACC and the #10 Guard in the Country while at UNC it is no surprise he teaches his O-line to be very disciplined and to pay attention to detail (footwork, technique, etc) We will see how the State Championship game plays out. That being said New Pal is very good and not all hype. They moved the ball very well against Cathedral whom had an excellent defense that was put to the test against several very good offenses throughout the year.
  23. I see the posts about Valpo’s size on Offense and Defense up front. New Pal played Cathedral who was huge on the Offensive and Defensive lines. Cathedral was able to keep the ball away from New Pal in the first half limiting possessions. The 2nd half though New Pal did the opposite of wear down. They actually were clicking on all cylinders at the end of the 3rd and all of the 4th. the accolades for New Pal’s Offense are tremendous. So much so the defense gets over shadowed. The defense is extremely good at creating turnovers and giving chances to the offense in the 2nd half. They are extremely disciplined along the O-line and on defense. They will get force the secondary to tackle Spegal and he will wear down those tacklers in the 2nd half and then yards will come in big chunks. New Pal’s team speed is excellent at nearly every position. Ill go with New Pal in this one. If I were betting I would bet their goal is to get a minimum of 3 turnovers and 30 carries for Spegal.
  24. This thread has become interesting! The gift that keeps on giving!
