It sounds like Southridge has a lot of speed.  I haven't heard much more about them.  Can somebody from that part of the state fill me in on what type of team they are?  Lawrenceburg beat our boys in a close one this year, but at the end of the day we are pulling for the EIAC!

Very disciplined, very well coached.  Spread the ball on offense.  Run it well, and throw it well.  Defensively they fly to the ball.  DBs can cover well.  LBs pursue and tackle well.  Both the O line and D line are not gonna out size anyone, but the compete their butts off and do the jobs.  Best words I can describe this team with BLUE COLLAR.

  2. On to a new discussion.......Washington, Sullivan, North Knox and Mater Dei all roll in their openers! Southridge makes Mt. Vernon look very ordinary in their opener and win big.  Posey has a running clock mid way thru the 2nd quarter!  TC beats Linton-Stockton in a good matchup, but the Seniors of TC are too much!

I'm not touching the last game.  GS is on fire, especially the QB.  The may have played their way into the favorite roll here (yes I said it and mean it), even though SR is undefeated.  HH FINALLY had 99% of their team on the field last Friday.  They still have some rust to knock off, but at least they had the same group that scrimmaged Jasper 10 weeks ago!!  If is rainy, and wet who knows.  It's gonna take a great effort by the Patriots along with a couple timely turnovers.

It depends on how many practices they missed. Here is the IHSAA by-law:

9-14 Practice Attendance Required to Participate in a Contest A student-athlete must attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled Practice sessions to be eligible for interschool athletic competition. If a student fails to attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled Practice sessions, such student shall be required to complete the following prior to participating in a Contest: a. attend and actively participate in all required Pre-participation Practice sessions, see rules 50 and 101; b. attendance and active participation in Four (4) school-supervised Practice sessions of normal length, which shall occur on Four (4) separate days prior to the day of the Contest, if the student fails to attend and actively participate in more than Four (4) but less than Eleven (11) consecutive days of regularly scheduled Practice; c. attendance and active participation in Six (6) school supervised Practice sessions of normal length, which shall occur on Six (6) separate days prior to the day of the Contest, if the student fails to attend and actively participate in more than Ten (10) consecutive days of regularly scheduled Practice.

    INTERPRETATION:

Days Missed                        No. of Practices Required                                                              5 to 10                                         4

    More than 10 consecutive               6

So it is the case that missing Friday and then Monday thru Thursday, players would have to some how get 4 practices in??  If this is the case TC is in trouble!!

Rumor is they may be back, TC was out of school last week so contract tracing went back to the last time they were around the infected individual (not a FB player) which was the Friday before.... I could be wrong but I believe they will be cleared this Friday at 3. Per rumor source 🙂

Believe it will be a dogfight with all their players available!

Isn't there a rule though that if you are in quarantine like that, before returning to play you must actively complete 4 practices??  Or are they going to try and say that they were practicing virtually like other schools in the are are doing to side step the rules?? 😅

  5. I think the truly interesting matchup this week is TC vs Linton-Stockton.  TC was down several players last Friday and it definitely showed in their loss to SS.  "If" the players miss again this week because of contact tracing (and that's what should happen by health department regulations) this game could be a real dogfight for the Marksmen!!!

That is wrong. Southridge is in 3A now as you said due to getting the 6 points in 2017 and 2018.  Here is the part of the rule that explains what is required to keep them in 3A.

    d. If a school which has participated in a higher enrollment class during the previous reclassification period achieves a tournament series success point value of Two (2), Three (3), Four (4) or Five (5) points in a specific sport, such school shall remain in the same enrollment class in that sport for the next reclassification period.

Southridge did not win the sectional last year so they received 0 points. A regional championship this year would give them 2 points.  That would meet the requirements to stay bumped up to 3A.

Ummmmmmmmmm did  you not see the previous three posts???  The ones from 32, and oldtime???  They explained it perfectly without the "that is wrong" stuff......cheeeeeez

Once you are moved up it just takes 2 points (Regional win) the following cycle to keep you there.

Thank you for the insight and to you as well oldtimeqb!!  I did not know this was the rule!!  Looks like there is a chance then that The Ridge could stay in 3A!!  But I am quite certain there are a few teams in that sectional that will have their own eyes on the prize!!

  8. 1 hour ago, fenderbender said:

Sorry I was wrong.   Regional is two points and that stays up.

Okay....so The Ridge won the state tournament in 2017 (4 points) and the regional in 2018 (2 points) which meant they move up to 3A.  Last season they lost in the sectional (0 pts).  So it is my understanding that no matter what happens they will move back to 2A due to a two year period of not meeting the 6 point rule.  Is that wrong??

Hearing that Mt. Vernon could be getting ripped by contact tracing.   As a whole, tough to put much stock in scores/results this year.  As a HH fan, probably aware of that as any.

HH has not fielded their entire team in one single game this season due to Covid/ injury.  It is a shame for that group of kids.  SS has had the same issue as well.  It must be terribly frustrating for teams, and coaches that have had to deal with this CRAP this year.

Sending kids home because they were in a class, wearing a mask, sitting socially distanced from a random student who is sick is the definition of insanity IMO.  It also puts those having to play on Friday nights at risk.  No varsity team should have to play sophomores against seniors because of quarantine rules.

Totally agree...that is why expected more talk.  I’ll start...the Titans know where their deficiencies have been and have been working hard to correct them.  I expect a very angry Titan football team on Friday night.

I'm not taking the bait!!  HA

I do however expect the Marksmen to finally get a dose of reality, and truly see what kind of team they have.  My guess in that one is The Raiders by 28!

AND I think that Mt. Vernon gets exposed and Booneville rips them by four scores!!

Maybe you can find some advice for Wilkerson on how to beat them.

I am curious about this statement.  You bring up a coach, who took a team into Booneville, about half strength.  A team of basically sophomores and juniors due to lovely quarantine and played the Pioneers pretty tough.  The difference in the game was HH couldn't (didn't) score when they got into the red zone on four occasions, and didn't tackle Mockobee real well.

So I guess the game plan was a good one.  So I guess that means yeah, if I was going to ask a coach for advice, Coach Wilk would be a good start.

Im hoping Boonville brings that smashmouth grind it out offense they displayed the 2nd half of the HH game. Mockobee is a totally different runner when he has a lead blocker.

Only difference between the 2nd half of the HH game, and the one against Gibson Southern.....Gibson will bring seniors and juniors for Mockobee to try and smash mouth, grind it out over!!!  Probably ain't gonna be as easy.

How many starters/players has HH had out?  Have they missed the entire season or just the last 2 weeks?  Hate to see kids not be able to play if they are healthy.

HH has not had it's full roster all season.  There hasn't been a game this season where they have had their entire roster.  Tis the "Covid 2020" football season.  With that said, no excuses.  This is the team they have.  Get better each week regardless of outcome.  Remember that every team in the state is 0-0 in week ten!!

I mean lower yardage sure but not anything bad

20/37 for 211 yards, 1 TD 0 INTs  vs Columbus North

20/37 for 171 yards, 1 TD 2 INTs vs Whiteland

11/16 for 88 yards, 4 touchdowns 0 INTs vs Washington

    Totals so far

    51/90 for 470 yards 6 touchdowns 2 INTs.

i think the Washington game really deflates things with only 88 yards...but hey when it’s 49-0 at the half and you have a pick 6 With a good run game i can’t really say they should have thrown it more.  That would just be padding stats lol

I would assume that some, maybe most, in the area saw that he signed with Purdue and thought he would come out and blow the stat sheets up this year.  Obviously his stats are not bad by any means, just maybe not what some assumed.  The kids can play and that is all that matters!!!!!

  15. FP vs Tec.  FP in a landslide

NP vsTC  TC wins but the defense finally gives up some points

GS vs Boon.  GS by 28 at least

PA vs P'ton  P'ton because I have nothing about their opponent

MV vs OC  MV because they will have the "1st game" jitters out of the way

SS vs HH  HH finally!!  Maybe getting closer to actually having a full roster

ND vs Wash.  ND by three scores

SR vs PC  SR by as many as they want to put on the board

You think they'd rather open up against Chatard the following week?  Chatard pounded Southport last year.

Probably not, and Chatard was a monster last year!!  They may not play until week 6 then who knows!!  The key word was AT in my previous statement.  Who would want to drive 4 hours for an opener and lose.  At least Chatard is some what close.

Was it against your judgement because you didnt want to take a loss or what?  I mean at this point you have plenty on the roster who have put the time in and deserve to play, right?

Not a matter of wins or losses.  It was the timing.  There were kids expected to go play in a varsity game who didn't get any game reps in practice, or very few to say the least.  HH was going to be down 3-4 starters already for precautionary reasons (injury could play but don't need to rush) so some #2s were getting a majority of the reps.  Now you throw in there at 1:30 in the afternoon 5 kids sent home because of Covid concerns now the backups backup are thrown into a starting roll.  So the concern is 9 players that started or played 75% of the minutes in week 1 are out week 2.  Sounds to me like Southport canceled for less.  So NO it wasn't about losing, it was about young kids playing seniors.  Not the best scenario.  But things worked out in the end.  No injuries.  Good news is, at least those young kids will get game reps this week, and that's good because they get to tackle Mockobee this Friday.
