The point is...if that slot receiver declares as being on the line of scrimmage and is covered.  This makes him ineligible..if he is allowed to go out for a pass, it certainly affects coverages and assignments.

If there is a flexed TE and a receiver flanking him on his outside that declares on as does the TE, our defensive backfield would communicate to each other that the TE is dead.  We would ignore him if he went out for a pass.  We would expect the crew to recognize that also, but it gets by many officials.

It is probably not a great place to talk about this or these situations because there are so many scenarios that could happen.  I'm not sure that I am expressing myself well enough in the post.

Since this has happened so often can you provide video of some of these plays? This sounds like something that is a huge issue and I’m sure some video would help show what you mean.
    thank you

I heard a PA announcer from a game on Friday announce "Personal Foul, Unsportsmanlike Conduct on the Defense." My wife goes " I didn't think that was possible in high school." I just smiled and knew I had a keeper. 😊

He must of learned from the 4a crew

I don't care who you are, superstar or third string punter... no exceptions to the visor rule, (without a medical exception) and always knee pads. There are arguments about the protection the pads provide... kids like to look cool like a college players. Rules are rules and must be enforced.

    There is no medical exemption

Received another official interpretation relating to this rule. Here’s the example:

Team A runs a “flea flicker,” where the ball is handed to a wingback who lined up outside the FBZ, received a handoff which resulted in him carrying the ball outside the lateral extent of the FBZ, and then he tosses a backward pass to the QB, who has remained inside the lateral extent of the FBZ. The QB then throws a forward pass into Row 6 of the stands, which is beyond the neutral zone extended through the sideline. The official IHSAA interpretation is that since the ball left the FBZ, the exception now applies regardless of the position of the passer when the forward pass is eventually thrown.

The “official “ interpretation is how I believe the rule  should be BUT it is 100% not the way the rule is written.

In our SB rules meeting at least regarding coaches apparel we were told “officials are not the fashion police.”  Apparently as more and more female coaches have opted for yoga pants some officials have taken exception. I assure it was never me.

Yoga pants are now outlawed. I saw baseball had a directive from the state that only one line of eye black should be allowed similar to football. That was sent out last from the baseball commissioner. Softball did not get that mandate

I would like to ask you a question. I get your sentiment and Micah Hauser is a fantastic football player. Do you feel Hauser would have had more yardage than Curry if they both received the same amount of carries, receptions, or plays offensively? I think what is missed sometimes is a player like Curry, just because they don't need to use him offensively a lot or at LB doesn't mean he can't produce at both. Curry had half the yardage as Hauser with almost 1/4 of the carries. Curry was on the D-line and Hauser a LB, Hauser should have more tackles at LB than a D-lineman and Curry had half as many which is a testament to what he does as a D-lineman.

    Rushing

    M. Hauser 15 carries 66 yds 3 TD 4.3 Avg

    C. Curry 4 carries 36 yds 1 TD 9.0 Avg

    Receiving

    M. Hauser 3 targets 2 catches 16 yds 0 TD

    C. Curry 0 targets 0 catches 0 yds 0 TD

    Tackles

    M. Hauser 5 solo 5 assist 10 total 0 TFL

    C. Curry 1 solo 4 assist 5 total 0 TFL

Now I thought Popeye Williams had a terrific game with 6 solo 3 assist 9 total 1 sack 2 TFL. However you don't see Popeye play on Offense. Curry while a very dominant D-lineman also plays well on offense (when CG decides to insert him) and I believe I read he also long snaps (not sure). I think when you look at the stats and compare touches it doesn't put Hauser as the best player on the field. In all honesty there  were a bunch of terrific players on the field in the 6A game and quite honestly they were all performing on the biggest stage.

I’m not sure where you saw those defensive stats but what I saw was Hauser had 16 tackles 10 solo? So what I saw was 16 tackles to 5. Point being in this high school game I would take Hauser

I’m not talking about future college and NFL prospect.  I’m talking last night in a high school football game and for me Micah Hauser was the best player out there. Maybe it was a fluke I’m not sure but he was absolute monster last night. 3 Td’s and 16 tackles

I think what Curry has done is remarkably impressive, and his uniqueness as a player is something I haven't seen in my 25+ years following high school football.  He plays both sides of the ball (and long snapper too) and case in point is last night, he rushed for almost 40 yards on two critical plays for Center Grove and no one could bring this guy down.  I think where the argument is going to revolve around while Allen may be one of the best QB's the state has ever had, Curry may be the most 'complete' football player the state has ever had.  Question is what fits the criteria for Mr. Football the most?

This will sound crazy to some but Curry wasn’t even the best “high school” football player on the field yesterday. Sorry not sorry but I said it

It's not appropriate to call out an official by name on this site.

And when the whistle blew in relation to the flag is meaningless in this situation. The foul either occurred before or after the ball was dead. That's the only thing that matters, and the timing of the whistle and the flag don't change that. I thought the contact was after the ball was dead, the covering official thought otherwise. The video will not lie.

Wouldn’t they then have to have some sort of other foul then? Like illegal helmet contact? You can’t have a personal foul hitting him late if he wasn’t down yet? The whole slide thing in high school is a strange play and does cause some issues. No one is thinking a high school player is gonna slide? If they would of called illegal helmet contact (live ball) then I think they could argue that was the call and it make sense. Other then that it needed tk be a dead ball foul and both fouls enforced

Hey @Bobref, I thought high school football stopped the clock while chains were moving? Noticed a couple times in the second and third quarters where the ref called for a running clock well before the chains were set. I might be mistaken

Those were plays on the sideline that they were telling the white hat that the forward progress was inbounds. They then stopped the clock. Set the chains and restarted the clock
