Some one said North was short a few players. So was Dwenger. I bet Dwenger had more penalty yards than North had offense.

Could that have possibly been a BD record for penalty yards in a game? That was unreal.

No hope for the Catholics? My teams old coach Lee Corso always said “never bet against the Catholics “

Im up with Bishop Luers getting a little more respect here.

Luers definitely has their best team in years. Extremely talented on offense, no doubt about that. I just don't think they can create enough stops to win this game.

Snider takes Carmel to the wire every single time. They were on the verge of blowing them out of the water in 18' before self-destructing. Penn took care of business the following week.

Homestead outplayed Carmel for a half last year without their best player. Sure, good teams figure it out in the end and that's what Carmel did. My point is this: Sectional 4 is FAR from invincible. The favorite? Yes. Is Westfield a darn good football team? Yes. But Homestead has amped up their level of play since joining the SAC, so don't be surprised if they give the Shamrocks a run...............if they get out of Sectional 3.

2008, 2009, and 2017 in 3 straight games against Carmel snider lost those 3 by a COMBINED 7 points. They ended up losing in 2018 by 14 to Carmel.

A good snider team can compete with Indy teams and has before. Homestead and Carroll have rarely fared well against them. I know Westfield is good but I don’t think they are like a Greyhound team that can physically grind you throughout the whole game with massive lines and depth and I don’t think some people on here understand that. The winner of this 6A sectional can and should compete against Westfield and make a game of it, possibly win.

As you mentioned above Homestead has improved since joining the SAC which makes perfect sense. I think they have the best chance against Westfield out of these teams, probably Snider next year. Carroll doesn’t have the type of game right now IMO to contend with the teams down there. Look no further than giving up 70 to Homestead.

Seeing South Side take care of business 30-20 against New Haven made me want to revisit a structure change in the SAC. New Haven isn't a bad football team, they just ran into a one win team that had to go through the toughest schedule in the state outside of the Indy area. New Haven joining the SAC makes sense to me for a few reasons:

    1. They are basically Fort Wayne anyway. Downtown NH is only 10 minutes down the street from Downtown FW.

    2. New Haven joining the SAC would amp up their level of competition. Therefore raising the bar for their athletic programs and making them better.

    3. Joining the SAC with another team would give the conference 12 teams. Two divisions and the opportunity to play outside competition..........which would make ALL SAC teams better.

The other said team would be Leo. That community is only 5 minutes down the road from the fastest growing area of Fort Wayne (Carroll district). It's a great community with an excellent athletic program. They would fit in nicely with the SAC and basically a burb of Fort Wayne anyway.

Division I (Large School) would consist of Carroll, Homestead, Northrop, Snider, North Side, and Dwenger.

Division ll (Small school) would consist of South Side, Leo, Wayne, New Haven, Concordia, and Luers.

Each division is required to schedule two opponents from the other division and are allowed two games outside of conference.

Think Snider vs Penn, Homestead vs Westfield, Dwenger vs Chatard, or Carroll vs Elkhart. All in all it would make the conference better.............. that's not even debatable. Unfortunately it will never happen though. The SAC is happy with a 10 team football conference for ease of scheduling. But ease of scheduling also equates to less interesting games and lower bar to measure themselves against.

I like this proposal but I think it would need a little tweaking. For example I believe the rivals should always play. There’s some cross divisional games I think you would need to include like north and south side playing every year as well as Dwenger and Luers.

  5. Think all of these games are going to be a blowout besides one.

New Haven pulls away from South Side in the second half. 42-20

    Concordia smashes Peru 42-7

    Luers over Whitko 47-21

The Huntington North-Wayne matchup is the only close game in my opinion. I'll choose Wayne since I am biased towards the SAC, Wayne 21-20. However, it could honestly go either way.

  6. Only intriguing game this weekend in my eyes IS Concordia and North Side.

Carroll crushes Wayne. Carroll better improve on D for the playoffs or they might be upset by Warsaw.

I'm picking Concordia in a narrow W over North Side. Seems like North Side really underachieved this year it feels like doesn't it? After their blowout victory over Snider to start the season I expected at least a top 4 finish in the SAC.

I think Snider beats Luers handily. Their D really impressed me last week, I think the way to beat them is passing and not rushing. Dwenger certainly had no success running until the 4th quarter.

Dwenger beats Northrop by about 28.

Homestead beats SS handily. Really intrigued by the 6a sectional.

Joe Tippmann went to Dwenger if that’s who you are referring to.

"Stats are a little bloated" ... quite the opposite. Against the lower-half of the HHC, he played a half, maybe one possession into the second half. I'm really, really tired of people claiming all of this happens because of a "weak schedule" that happened to include a regional champ and a semistate champ in the regular season. The upper half of the HHC was a Yorktown team that was ranked part of the year in 3A, a *very* good Pendleton Heights team, a similarly good Delta team and Mt. Vernon, which won a regional.

He had nine 200+ games this season - against Center Grove (6A finalist), Mt. Vernon (4A regional champ), Whiteland, Franklin, Cathedral & Bloomington South - the latter four coming in consecutive games in the 5A tourney, all four against teams that were ranked at some point in the year (also against Greenfield-Central, New Castle and Delta). To insinuate he piled his yards up against weak competition isn't really accurate.

I’ll admit I was wrong about Charlie’s stats being bloated then as long as the New Pal fans admit they were wrong about Cathedral “clearly” being far superior than Valpo was.

  9. I digress. I am just aware of the teams in the conference that new pal has played.. Thanks for correcting me. Spegal deserves all of the accolades he is receiving. Valpo stopped him for the most part. Spegal on that run in the second half changed the trajectory of the game and that is what New Pal needed. 99.9 of the running backs couldn’t have made that run. Congrats New Pal!

Great players make great plays in big situations, that is what Charlie did.

Very frustrating game to watch from a Valpo perspective.

Looks like the Vikes could use a lot of offseason 7 on 7 work.

Valpo has athletes all over the place.  Why does the 6-5 QB over throw over half of his passes?  Why didn't they incorporate the big 6-5 TE into the offensive game plan?  Why didn't they throw short passes to their RB in the flats?

How can a high school offensive line with 3 300 lb plus linemen not completely overrun a much smaller defensive line, even one as quick and athletic as New Pal?  The Valpo linemen are big, but they seemed a little soft.  They need some Nick Martin type Chatard attitude instilled in their big guys.

Valpo would be much more dangerous with some solid QB coaching and a more creative offensive game plan.

Spegal looked slow on the 80 yard TD run.  Must be why he isn't getting much D1 attention.  I also noticed he looks uncomfortable in his gear.  Always shrugging his shoulders as if his pads don't fit well.  He looks wound up so tight in a ball out there.  Maybe some lighter gear will make him look a little faster.

Lol I noticed the shrugging on every play as well. I mean it’s obvious his speed is why he isn’t getting more offers. He literally has everything else. I think his stats are a little bloated playing in New pals conference. Teams do play in worse conferences than new pal though. No matter what he does in college he is without a doubt one of the best high school running backs in Indiana history. Once again congrats Spegal and New Pal. 5a was loaded this year towards top and they come out on top of everyone.

I didn't like the personal foul facemask call. It looked incidental to me. Other than that, I think the officiating has done a fantastic job.

Two great teams. One just making more plays. Congrats to New Pal.

You were right earlier. This game did prove Dwenger definitely has one of the best D’s in the state along with Valpo New Pal Carmel and some others.

I was surprised so many people "doubted" valpo.

    Great hs game.

I just think a lot of people were unfamiliar with Valpo. I knew from watching them play Dwenger they would give New Pal a game. They’re too talented, huge, and physical on D to get blown out by anybody in Indiana. I still believe if those teams played 10 times Valpo would win half. They don’t though. Credit to New Pal for blowing open the 3rd quarter and making the necessary plays to win the game.

I have a ruling question. On one of the fabulous punts the kicking team picked up the ball at the 2 or 3 yard line but continued his progress into the receiving team end zone. What is the correct ruling in this instance? Ball dead and placed the spot of first touch? Or touchback since the player momentum carried player into end zone after gaining possession?

I actually wondered about that as well. It looked like the Dwenger players thought it should’ve been moved.

I actually thought the Valpo - Dwenger game, although characterized by great effort on the part of both teams, was pretty sloppy. Untimely penalties by both teams. Numerous trips into the red zone without scoring by both. Turnovers, etc. Either one of these teams would be cannon fodder for New Pal.

And, for what it’s worth, the officiating crew had a very, very good game. Their first semistate, and I was very impressed.

You see the best teams in the world do things like this though. I would chalk it up to 2 teams not wanting to go home a week early. Everyone has their opinions though. No qualms with the officiating.

Agree.  Valpo's defense is good but no one has been able to tackle Spegal for 4 quarters.  And having watched the 2nd half of Valpo v Dwenger, Valpo isn't near as good as Cathedral on offense or defense.

I think New Pal wins the game next week. I think the true best teams in the state are New Pal and Carmel right now. I don’t agree with cathedral being clearly better or even better in general than Valpo though.

It’s like the late 80’s World Wrestling Federation.  Every week the “new #1 contender” for the title is put on a pedestal.

It really is okay that I’m picking New Pal comfortably.  There’s no need to get offended.  I promise.

It seems you are the one offended if anyone picks a team to be within 55 points of New Pal. They are good yes, I think them and Carmel are the 2 best teams in the state.
