2A has very evenly matched teams up and down the brackets. It is a very entertaining class to watch in the playoffs. I don't think I can pick out a clear-cut favorite this year.

I think there's a big line at the crow burger stand, interested to see who partakes, and who vanishes until the Titans are winning next year. Congrats to OV, Now I'm gonna find some ketchup for this damn sandwich.
Thanks for owning the prediction...the WIC is a tougher football conference than many think it is.
4-5 years ago the OV varsity couldn't beat the 1A & 2A schools in the WIC, but they had an awesome 9th grade squad & a good JV. Here is the culmination of that.

Should be a good sectional...Lintons to lose in my opinion...
Agreed....I do not think Southmont will hang with them for 4 quarters.....actually, nobody in this sectional can.

I'd love to see Southmont give Linton a run for their money this Friday. I've seen South play a handful of times this year and they have the pieces for post-season success but I've always heard about these good Linton teams and it sounds like this is one that makes the old teams proud. Strength of schedule is going to balance these teams out and I think we'll be seeing a close one...
I don't think this will be close at all. Southmont is very good, but Linton is pretty much dominant - I am going with 48-28 Linton

I think all these games have the potential to be good ones. As someone said early some of these schools have not played the toughest schedules. I'm hoping for a WRC sweep this week! All the WRC teams better be ready to stop the passing game!
Traders Point @ NV - Crabtree and Blank better have their passing defense ready to go this week. Traders Point wants to throw the ball.. The qb has thrown for over 2500 yards this year. NV needs to do their best to keep that offense off of the field. I see this being a higher scoring game and I'll take NV winning the ball game with a late td in the 4th and a pick to end the game. NV 42-40
Park Tudor @ FC- Park Tudor was the heavy favorite to win the sectional and after a tough/close game last week I'm sure Herb has his boys fired up to play this one. Will FC be able to stop the Park Tudor offense or will the FC offense be able to score with them? I'll take FC holding them off a couple times to get a win. 35-32
RP @ Covenant Christian - As long as 24 is playing the Panthers have a chance. They need to get a couple stops defensively and they got to score! I wouldn't be surprised if 24 gets 30 plus carries this game. I'm taking RP 38-30
Big thing this week for our WRC teams is can they stop the indy schools from scoring? I don't think they will be prepared to play the smash mouth football that these WRC teams can play at times! Best of luck to all teams!
I have witnessed CC play this year and they can put up BIG points in a hurry with their passing game. They have a very dynamic QB which opens them up for big play runs as well. I know I haven't seen RP play this year, but I know what to expect from CC so I would say that this one is a higher scoring affair ending as a 48-34 CC win.

This game will be very close - closer than the 20+ predicted by the account above. From a WIC standpoint, OV is the definite powerhouse in it right now. I know GS has a storied history as well. But I can't go against Coach Gibson and will call it Patriots 38 GS 34 -- but I give myself a +/- 5 pt margin of error for not seeing GS play. 😑

Any of the private schools who can recruit can be built to win in any class....JMO.

Sullivan will move back up to 3A at the next classification cycle. I counted 72 players on their roster when they played Linton earlier.
Yeah, looking at enrollment info off the IHSAA website, Southmont & Cascade will be moving up to 3A soon and hopefully taking Sullivan back with them! Although, it did say the reclassifications were for both 22-23 & 23-24 school years.

Linton over SV
Southmont over North Knox
Sullivan over N Putnam
Cascade over Greencastle
Linton over Southmont
Sullivan over Cascade this will be the closest game of the sectional i believe
Linton over Sullivan
I agree with all of these predictions except Greencastle's defense can stop Cascade's offense. This will be a good game......Sullivan will definitely beat either team the next game and it will be at least 2 scores over either team. Golden Arrows are very good for a 2A squad (should be 3A still).

Don’t sleep on Park Tudor. Going North is definitely a boost for them imo. The North is deeper but the South is so top-heavy with Lutheran and Covenant. They played Lutheran tough in a post season loss last year. I could see them making a run.
While I disagree with this statement because South Putnam is actually better than Covenant (from playing both), however, these 3 schools are in the same sectional so Lutheran will take care of 2 of them right off. North Putnam has played all 3 of these schools this year - Lutheran is THE winner.

LINTON STOCKTON VS SOUTH VERMILLION -- Linton is the top of 2A for a reason. I don't see them losing this sectional. Toughest game will be round 2 game vs Southmont.
NORTH KNOX VS SOUTHMONT -- Southmont has been tough all year and I have always thought it would be a Linton vs Southmont final - but luck of the draw has them hitting in round 2 game.
SULLIVAN VS NORTH PUTNAM -- Sullivan has always been a tough opponent for North Putnam, this year is no different for sure - Sullivan to second round.
GREENCASTLE VS CASCADE -- This is the closest game of the sectional - a virtual toss-up. Greencastle has the edge because they have a better record against class 2A opponents.

Off Topic - But is there any way South Vermillion and Coverdale could swap places in their conferences? Cloverdale would compete much better in that conference of 1A schools under new energetic young coach Tyler Lotz, who is as good as cloverdale has had, and SV would see competition in the WIC that would prepare them for sectional run. Just a thought.
I think all the Putnam County Schools should switch to the WRC - and leave SV in it. They could play GC, SP, NP for competition and leave Attica, FC, and Cloverdale alone.
-
@Bear54 I agree with all your predictions - only differed in my scoring just a little:
Covington 35 Attica 12
NV 42 FC 36
SV 34 Seeger 28
RP 49 PH 21

Sullivan should have the defense to hold the Tiger Cubs....we will see though. Cascade will be roughed up a bit tonight. Every other team should have a good night - just like you predicted.
-
Linton will win this Sectional playing against Southmont or Sullivan - depending on the draw. This is a really tough sectional traditionally - over the last 10-12 years this Sectional has been well represented in the state tournament and had several in the finals. Linton will fall right in....
-
IC 42-7
Cascade 48-14
North Putnam 28-24
Northview 46-12
OV 55-16
SP 38-30
Linton 42-24

But is anybody good enough to step up and fill the void? With the Moore Son-Father coaching duo in place, I've got to think NV is the team to watch out for in the WRC. Brian Moore didnt leave PH after building that program up to sit in the WRC basement . The Moore's clearly have a plan, and it will probably happen very quickly.
But they are not at NV....so it doesn't matter to the WRC....

The WIC makes no sense for several teams - Cloverdale, South Putnam, North Putnam or Cascade...the four smallest schools in it and 2 of them being so far north and east of most teams. These four teams should find better fits. It would be awesome if NP & SP could move into the WRC! Maybe South Vermillion can go back to the WIC to open up a move!

At the North Putnam School Board meeting last night, the board approved unanimously of hiring former Seeger Asst Coach Scott Moore as it's new head football coach and math teacher. The Cougars get a bit of good news after dealing with so much loss and tragedy the last few months.

Today, Feb. 19th, there will be a memorial of late North Putnam MS Teacher & longtime Defensive Coord. (GURU!!!) Dan Fouts at the North Putnam High School gym from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. The family asks that people wear orange or navy blue to honor Dan because that is all he would be seen in....Mr. North Putnam! Please keep the Fouts family in your thoughts as they cope with today and the coming months without the "Silent Giant". Here is an article about Dan Fouts from our local paper:
