They no longer have a significant enrollment advantage over most of the other Indy metro schools. Sure they are a top 10 sized school.....but most of the Indy metro schools are within a few hundred kids give or take. And a few have outgrown Penn. The "local" competition up North isn't what it used to be....and it wasn't always great back then. (and the changes to their schedule this year are puzzling...no out of state powers like they used to schedule, no Indy schools?) This is my outsider perspective, so the Penn faithul are welcome to call me out...I would fully defer. Gees was an alltime great, but I don't feel like Yeoman and the rest of that staff just forgot how football worked? The best teams in the 90's and 00's were still the biggest schools. Carmel, Penn, Ben Davis...Snider was there as well as the outsider of the group in enrollment size. There are still schools bigger than Penn now that are bad at football. The lack of competition in the North-Central part of the state is alarming. Mishawaka, Penn, Concord and Elkhart are it. Penn plays Mishawaka and Elkhart they don't play Concord and wont play Northwood. This is the entire reasoning for either insulting the NIC and sending your JV team to play certain NIC games, or just ask to leave in Football only. Go independent in that regards still play a modified schedule that keeps NIC teams on the schedule, but not all of them every year. There are DAC and Summit teams that want to play Penn. There are Indy schools that would or want to play Penn. If you cannot make it work go call your buddies at OLSM and Brother Rice in Detroit or Toledo Central Catholic in Ohio. They can and will easily fill out a schedule. 1 Quote
