Eligible Numbers in Kicking Formations?

Question

Posted

We had a situation last night on a PAT attempt where a #50 lined up as the TE.   The kicking team ran a fake extra point, and released the TE #50 to the corner of the end zone where he caught the ball for 2 points.

We questioned the official on our sideline about how an ineligible number was able to receive a pass down field and we were told that during kicking situations numbers do not matter.

What is the actual rule? Thanks in advance.

Nope. #50 is ineligible regardless of where he lines up or what down it is.

What game was this?
