Brownstown Valley Martinsville Scottsburg Gibson Southern North Decatur Paoli could make it a game if they are able to throw the ball around. I hope Valley can get over the Pioneer hump this time around!

Some long drives on here, how far is too far? I wouldn’t count on Edinburgh either. I am sure they are looking for a different week 4 team. I’m not sure what other schools contracts look like, but I would think Eastern would try to add Crawford back on their schedule as well as Mitchell. Being a smaller, struggling program this far south definitely makes it harder to schedule competitive games closer to home.

WW has a long drive to Knightstown, but I think their passing game will travel just fine.

Well, after what JQWL has said, I guess it’s just what I think. I’m not sure how it would benefit Salem to withdraw themselves from these competitions.

That would be a terrible decision as the program stands. Both games were competitive with the other county schools. I would understand dropping Eastern if we were year in and year out world beaters, but I would never be the one to pull out of these rivalries.

They play varsity basketball boys and girls the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. JV football was hit or miss. Some coaches didn’t love having that game the Monday of sectional week, so in the years where a certain team had a good JV and thought they could beat the other, they would play on Saturday after varsity game. The JV teams did play against each other the year the varsity game was cancelled due to Covid. I’m not sure if they have had a JV game since. I would be shocked, disappointed, and a little upset if this series were ever to stop.

Salem loses to WW 21-14. Salem had a lot of penalties and WW made it hard for Salem to run the ball all night.

MSC Tourney Breakdown Brownstown - doesn’t matter who they draw or where they play, easily winning sectional 40. Salem - Got the best draw possible. If they take care of business they will make the championship game. Scottsburg - Feels like a good draw, should see them in the championship vs Indian Creek. I like their chances. Corydon vs NH - Big Cat Classic pt. 2, this is a toss up. Either way, I will take Scottsburg round 2. Silver Creek vs Charlestown - Battle of 403 pt. 2 - I would expect a similar result from the first time they played. I’m not sure either team gets past Martinsville even in a down year for them.

Shoutout to Coach Pennington and the Salem Lions! Picking up steam at the right time! Huge program win last night at the Boneyard. Corydon - laid an absolute egg Silver Creek - 42-0 after the first quarter to a team half your size, yikes. I really hope Brownstown’s lack of competition doesn’t hurt them post sectional play.

With Madison joining the MSC next year, when are schedules typically finalized for upcoming seasons?

I can only speak on the very southern part of the state for Rock Creek, Pekin Eastern, Salem, and possibly Henryville. Simply they are small schools trying to do too much. Particularly Rock Creek, Henryville, and Salem. Rock Creek was one of the smallest schools in the state trying to field both football and soccer teams. Salem and a Henryville both have soccer as well. I am not hating on soccer, but small schools cannot spread their talent out like that. Brownstown does not have soccer, just sayin! Pekin Eastern’s issue is and has been small numbers, young guys playing up and either getting discourage and quitting, or when their numbers do increase, incoming frosh and sophomores think that they are entitled to varsity play immediately because that was the norm before them. So, a lot of those guys quit too. It is a very cyclical issue for them.

Providence with a couple of late game questionable 4th down decisions allowed Charlestown to steal one at home. What in the world is going on at Silver Creek? Proud of the Lions effort. I just feel that small schools especially should look to more “old school” football concepts and formations. I think some knocks on them is the amount of time they take to develop, and they aren’t “sexy”. I feel more coaches would be interested in them if schools and parents would buy in.
