If it's as rainy as expected, the edge 100% goes to EC. They can ground & pound, and do a really good job of being physical against the run, defensively.

I think one team that has been under the radar in 4A is Mt. Vernon. They gave up 57 to a unique offense in Noblesville but they've been dominant in the HHC this year. (I know they're ranked 4th in the polls but almost no one is giving them a chance to beat the Royals.) Roncalli struggles mightily against good passing offenses and Mt. Vernon's big-time pass game could give Roncalli fits.

I nailed them as an under the radar threat 😉 but I still am amazed about Northridge! The atmosphere for the 4A game is going to be electric with these two communities experiencing a state game at LOS for the first time!

Has Northridge or MV won State in any other sports?

I really did not want this to be a PI debate. It was the use of term awful that bothered me. I totally agree that nothing can be judged by one picture because I could have just shone the interception frame and from that frame it look like a terrible call. So since this has become a debate I will express my opinion that the official probably used #6 to make his decision. The pass was a couple of feet offline and the receiver tried to adjust and that is when contact was made causing the receiver from being able to move toward the pass. So by the time the ball came down the defender was in position to make the interception.

And I apologize for turning it into one. It was just a crucial call as BD was up 14-10 during that specific possession.

I think the Giants pull off a shocker tomorrow. I have no dog in the fight but BD dominating Bburg and CG struggling with LN last week may be an indicator of tomorrow nights result.

I did not say that it was a correct call or not, I am not a Referee and never could even imagine doing that job.  I really did not want to start a debate about one call. I guest I just don't like the term awful used towards officials making split second judgment calls.

True. Especially since it was a judgement call. I'll rephrase it to a "very questionable call." I just remember watching the game Week 4 & that stood out to me.

But back to tomorrow night's game, I wonder if Wheat will be healthy enough to be his usual explosive self. That kid has turned into an absolute dude throughout the season.

For the record, I was really hoping for a Bloomington game for the Irish. I had rooms reserved for the night and a 3:30p Indiana Hoosiers kick on Saturday. As horrific as the Hoosiers have been this year, God smiled on us again with a New Albany win and a local game. We do actually like to travel no matter what PHJ says....

If South won, that would have been a helluva weekend.

Glad you guys can go back to Tech during the postseason, the amount of nice breweries and bars in the area, plus the Irish tailgate, has to be unmatched in the state.

  5. Here's what I found in regards to a dream-ish drive

Ben Davis: Home vs Southport, @ Tech (25 min drive), Home vs Bburg, @CG (30 min drive)

Cathedral: Home vs THN, Home vs Plainfield, @ Decatur (30 min drive), Home vs New Pal, Home vs New Albany

Zionsville: Home vs all opponents the last 2.5 years lol, @ Michigan City for Semistate (2 hr 30 min drive)

Cathedral takes the cake in terms of the best draw in terms of travel with Zionsville having the best draw the last 2.5 years until they finally have to go on the road to MC.

What else needs to be said? Where’s HSE? Where’s Brownsburg? The HCC is going to be judged in November not August. We’re all waiting…

    Westfield the great hope

HSE literally lost with 5 seconds left to a great Westfield program! Zionsville sure looked dominant against a perennial P/P in Dwenger. But God forbid only two two teams from the HCC are still alive (Westfield, Zionsville) JUST like the MIC (BD, CG).

Westfield doesn’t play a soul until they get to LOS. If they play the Trojans within two TD’s they’ll get my stamp of approval.

Brownsburg flat choked this year. You can only be the undefeated national champions of August so many times before people start to take notice. Their time has come and gone.

HSE isn't impressive? They were literally up 28-17 on Brownsburg during the season.

Brownsburg choked or BD played well? Sometimes you can give credit to the winning team. They rushed for 275ish on Carmel and they rushed for less than 100 on 30 carries against BD. Bburgs QB was 9-24 with two interceptions.

A win next week would change that.

They play in arguably the weakest pound for pound sectional in the state. Tonight was their first win against a team with a winning record all year.

100% get that. BUT they manhandled a team that was 9-2 and had narrow losses to Cathedral and Westfield. I mean that's an impressive win, no matter how you spin it.

3 straight years where BD has somewhat struggled out the gate, only to get healthy and pick up wins at the back of their front-loaded schedule.

Can BD do what they did last year (beating Carmel in Regionals), and get revenge on an opponent that beat them in the regular season?

    Prediction:

    BD: 28

    Brownsburg: 17

Hmm.... Who would have thought Ben Davis would be up 32-0 with 6 mins left in the 4th?

  10. Thought this would be a fun discussion on a beautiful but cold Regional Night.

What is your favorite tournament moment(s)?

The first one that jumps into my mind was the New Pal & Columbus East Semistate game in 2014, at New Pal. The crowd was electric and it was blisteringly cold, and New Pal won on a last-second field goal.

Ben Davis vs Center Grove in the 2014 Semistate where BD was down by three late in the 4th quarter and Chris Evans broke a 74 yd TD run to give the Giants the lead and the win.

Over/Under number of games played in the renewed Cathedral/Roncalli series before Roncalli bails?

    I'll put it at 2.5.

I'll take the over. Rodenburg doesn't seem like his predecessors at HC & make pre-ordained excuses about why Cathedral is so successful.

I know everyone is confused about this but will Cathedral be in 6A next year and Roncalli in 5A next year, after they both win state this year?

I think it will come down to how well Slunaker plays.  (Have we had this conversation before?)

I think Roncalli should push MV around when they have the ball and the Chatard second half shows what happens when you load the box against them.

Slunaker’s QB rating and completion % are up.  His INTs are down.  Some of that is probably due to state of HHC, but it is an improvement over last year.

Last year he had to throw it 40 times, by far the most of the last two seasons.

I am stunned that the Roncalli QB has 60 more attempts this year than him.  MV QB has not attempted over 20 since game 2.

Looks like MV is more ground oriented this year.  240 yards per game this year vs 182 last year.  Would be surprised if they approach that figure.   Only had 31 yards last year.

Hahaha we have! He's a 4 year starter (3 at MV, 1 at GC) and is about to play in his 3rd straight Regional game. I think they come out juiced and he hits a few shots throughout the first half. But Roncalli's DL should be able to get pressure all-night, imo.

If you would have said, pre 2012, that Roncalli's QB would have thrown for 2200 yds and 27 TDs in a single season, you'd have been out of your mind. Crazy to see.

Yeah, I don't see Mt. Vernon's defense coming close to stopping Roncalli at all.

  13. I think this game will be as competitive as the East Central & Roncalli game. Mt. Vernon's offense can explode at any moment and Roncalli's pass D, albeit very good at forcing turnovers, is the most susceptible part of their team.

I could see this being a 42-35 Roncalli W, if not higher scoring. Mt. Vernon's D has feasted on a sub-par HHC and Roncalli's size and speed will shock them for 4 quarters.

Not as good as last year’s Chatard team (by quite some distance) and I’m not sure I can fairly rank them against Marian and Concordia since I only saw each of those teams once.

In my opinion, though, they are the best Brebeuf team I’ve seen since they started playing Chatard consistently again around 12-13 years ago.  They flatly beat Chatard first game of the season.  It got close near the end but Brebeuf was the definitively better team that night.

And Brebeuf is pretty battle-tested with their schedule so far:

    Chatard (W)

    West Lafayette (W)

    WeBo (W)

    Roncalli (Competitive L)

    Cathedral (Not-competitive L)
