https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ocasio-cortez-trump-usa-headed-fascism After touring a migrant holding facility, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., warned about the direction of the country and blasted House Democrats and President Trump for their actions during the migrant crisis. “Are we headed to fascism? Yes. I don’t think there’s a question,” Ocasio-Cortez reportedly told Yahoo News on Monday. Her comments harkened back to a controversial comparison she made between migrant facilities and "concentration camps" -- statements she refused to apologize for but which sparked considerable backlash from Republicans. She then repeated the comparison again on Tuesday evening. Ocasio-Cortez has continually pummeled the administration for its treatment of migrants and insisted that they faced deplorable conditions under Trump. “This is completely engineered by him,” she said of Trump and the humanitarian crisis at the border. The New Yorker cited how the U.S. withdrew aid to places that needed it. “It deepened and exacerbated all of the crises that are already happening, causing a flood of people to try to escape these horrifying conditions," she said. "So we are contributing to the surge in the first place. We’re engineering it, so that’s coming to our border.” I don't understand that statement - Does she think the current President worked with the former President (REMEMBER - whose administration actually built the facilities that are now overcrowded) to accomplish the current border crisis that everyone in the Democrat party (last year) said DIDN'T exist, but for some reason now claims it does exist worst than it has ever been...... Then you have AOC out there making statements like "They are forced to drink water out of the toilets". https://www.businessinsider.com/photo-hybrid-toilet-drinking-fountain-cbp-centers-2019-7 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7207365/AOC-warns-slipping-Fascism-claiming-border-detainees-drinking-toilets.html Ocasio-Cortez added: 'They were absolutely rude and they were absolutely talking back as though they had as much power as the oversight powers of Congress ... as though they were exempt from congressional oversight.' Therein lies the problem with this lady......She expected the outright laying down on the ground and kneeling in front of the mighty Congresswoman from New York and obeying her commands - Instead she got the working CBP officers who really didn't have time for her and her ilk, but who were definitely beneath her......

What is Nike thinking?
swordfish replied to swordfish's topic in Gridiron Out of Bounds's Out of Bound Forum
Absolutely not. Do you assume i think the government is the answer for everything? As you said earlier - free market. SF overlooked the Kapernick/Nike debacle since I really do like their shoes, and I try not to let my or anyone else's political views affect my purchasing decisions, but this time I have taken a pause and will reconsider. -
What is Nike thinking?

I really don't get it. Why anyone would not be proud of ANY version of the American flag is beyond me. (SF wouldn't pay $140 for a pair of athletic shoes, but that's beside the point) Besides, CK's beef was with the cops mistreating blacks versus the flag wasn't it? -
I know - it's a meme but......Uh - I think he actually DID successfully pay off said porn star to sign an NDA ......AND got his money back and then some..... https://deadline.com/2019/03/stormy-daniels-donald-trump-nda-lawsuit-dismissed-1202571818/ No stranger to the intimacies of Trump and Daniels AKA Clifford, Judge Otero was the same judicial official who dismissed the Full Disclosure author’s defamation suit against POTUS back in October. In coming up short in the case of the barbed tweets from Trump, Daniels has been ordered to pay $293,052.33 in attorney’s fees for the supposed billionaire.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/01/business/nike-air-max-1-quick-strike-fourth-of-july/index.html New York (CNN Business)Nike is canceling a sneaker that featured the "Betsy Ross" version of the American flag from the late 18th century. "Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured an old version of the American flag," Nike said in a statement to CNN Business. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that the athletic-wear company delivered the sneakers to retailers, but asked stores to return them to Nike after the company received a complaint from former NFL star Colin Kaepernick. The Journal indicated Kaepernick said he and others found the shoe offensive because of its ties to America's era of slavery. Kaepernick could not be reached for comment Monday evening. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/02/arizona-to-withdraw-nike-financial-incentives-after-it-pulls-betsy-ross-sneakers.html Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said on Tuesday in a Tweet he will order the state’s commerce authority to withdraw all financial incentive dollars for the shoe company to locate in the state after Nike said it’s dropping its Betsy Ross American flag sneakers. Nike has been planning to build a manufacturing plant on metro Phoenix’s west side, which was expected to bring 500 jobs to the area, The Arizona Republic reported on Monday. The city had agreed to waive up to nearly $1 million in fees and reimburse up to $1 million for the jobs it will create, the paper reported. On Monday night, Nike said it was pulling the sneakers, which featured an early American flag designed by Betsy Ross in celebration of the July Fourth holiday. The decision followed a complaint from former NFL football player Colin Kaepernick, who pointed to the flag’s use during a period slavery, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. There also have been reports of the flag’s use by extremist groups, according to the paper. “It is a shameful retreat for the company. American businesses should be proud of our country’s history, not abandoning it,” wrote Ducey on Twitter. “Nike has made its decision, and now we’re making ours. I’ve ordered the Arizona Commerce Authority to withdraw all financial incentive dollars under their discretion that the State was providing for the company to locate here.” I wonder who is running Nike now......

Only a small disclaimer at the bottom of the site reveals its purpose as a form of "entertainment and political commentary." "It is not paid for by any candidate, committee, organization, or PAC," the disclaimer reads. "It is a project BY AN American citizen FOR American citizens. Self-Funded." "It's very telling that The New York Times calls quoting Joe Biden 'disinformation,'" he said. "All quotes, policy positions, and GIFs in the site are 100 percent real and are sourced from reputable sources." Didn't know it existed......Thanks for the head's up..... -

You were right W, I was asserting that opinion. But I'm sure you will agree there are so many that are now coming across the border illegally or legally that are using the asylum reason as a way to gain entry then disappear into the country. (Again - IMHO) AND - if a migrant crosses the border illegally - Deport them... The second point of your post I can empathize with, but how long do you continue foreign aid to those countries when that aid isn't reaching the intended targets. Yes, aid COULD be used to improve the conditions, but who is going to do what is needed to be done to actually improve the conditions? -
SF didn't watch either debate, however the commentary afterwards is pretty good. https://grabien.com/story.php?id=241359 MADDOW: “Vice president Biden, 30 seconds.” BIDEN: “A real 30 seconds?” MADDOW: “A real 30 seconds.” “I’m the only person that beat the NRA nationally,” Biden boasted. “I’m the guy that got the Brady Bill passed, background checks, number one. Number two, we increased that background check during the Obama-Biden administration. I’m also the only guy that got assault weapons banned, banned, and the number of clips in a gun banned.” OK......I'm not aware of a gun that could ever hold more than one clip at a time......

Didn't look for a clip Irish, https://nypost.com/2019/06/27/trump-slams-dems-for-backing-health-care-for-undocumented-immigrants/ All of the candidates — including former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Kamala Harris and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg — raised their hands when asked by an NBC moderator if they would support a health care plan that would cover undocumented immigrants.

OK - Again - come to the front door, knock and wait in line.......Sorry for your luck in coming when the rush is on...... Mexico is finally doing more to help ease the tensions on their side of the border, but this takes a lot of time to get this done. The US didn't tell you to swim across the river to get here...... -

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7188687/Widow-Salvadoran-father-drowned-daughter-Rio-Grande-speaks-out.html Oscar worked at a Papa Johns pizza restaurant, where he was earning $350 a month. They lived off his wage, limiting themselves to $10-a-day, because Tania had already quit her job as a cashier in a Chinese restaurant to care for Valeria, their only child. The family lived with her mother in a housing complex in Altavista. They were not fleeing violence, Tania's mother has since said, but were in desperate search of a life where they could earn more. Their plan was to spend a few years in America to save up enough money to eventually return to El Salvador and buy or build their own house. 'I begged them not to go, but he wanted to scrape together money to build a home. 'They hoped to be there a few years and save up for the house,' Rosa Ramirez, Oscar's mother, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. Determined to eventually get to the US, on April 3, they left El Salvador for Mexico. SF is trying to be understanding of the people fleeing upheaval, turmoil, and violence in their homelands, but this story, while heartbreaking considering the result, sheds light on my suspicion that there is a pretty large amount of the migrant population (especially those crossing the border illegally) that are misusing the "asylum" story falsely. This guy didn't need to risk his and his kid's life to escape anything. I can't blame him for wanting to come to the US to improve his life, but again - come to the front door, knock and wait in line.
