  1. Stephanopoulos interview question regarding oppo research = much ado about nothing.......
  2. As I said - her/his choice. My choice whether I fill the stands, or watch on TV. Simple. My statement was (from a marketing background) if you want to improve marketshare, maybe don't offend a portion of your market......Of which I am not, since I am not a soccer fan.
  3. It's not really funny, just sad (IMHO). Her choice though. If women's soccer wants to attract more viewers and gain attendance at their matches, maybe making a political statement on the world's stage with maximum exposure to your target market (US Citizens) isn't the best practice.......
  4. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/memphis-unrest-police-shooting_n_5d021716e4b0304a120a34a3 MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Armed officers and an angry crowd faced off after a Tennessee man was fatally shot by U.S. Marshals in a working-class Memphis neighborhood. People in the crowd threw rocks and bricks, with 25 officers suffering mostly minor injuries during the tense clash Wednesday night in the Frayser community in north Memphis. Officers cordoned off several blocks near the scene. By 11 p.m., officers had used tear gas and most of the crowd dispersed, police director Michael Rallings said at a Thursday morning at a news conference. Three people were arrested. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Keli McAlister said the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force went to a Frayser home to look for a suspect with felony warrants. Marshals saw the man get into a vehicle and then proceed to ram task force vehicles several times before exiting with a weapon, McAlister said. Marshals then opened fire, killing the man who died at the scene. McAlister did not say how many marshals fired or how many times the man was shot. One local official identified the victim as Brandon Webber and said he was shot several times in his family’s front yard. Family members confirmed to the Daily Memphian that the 21-year-old Webber died. In identifying Webber on Twitter early Thursday, Shelby County Commissioner and mayoral candidate Tami Sawyer said “Every life lost should matter...every single one. How many times will this be ok? It cannot continue to be.” Memphis police officers were called in to help with crowd control as word of the shooting spread on social media. As more protesters showed up, more Memphis officers and Shelby County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene. The situation then escalated, and officers donned protective riot gear as people threw rocks and bricks. Police cars and a nearby fire station were damaged, Rallings said. The TBI is called in to investigate police-involved shootings by district attorneys in Shelby and other counties in the state. TBI investigators then give their report to the district attorney, who will decide whether to pursue charges against officers involved. The police director implored residents to wait until the TBI finishes its investigation before spreading possible misinformation about the shooting. “I need everyone to stay calm,” Rallings said. While police support the right of people to demonstrate, Rallings said “we will not allow any acts of violence.” Passion Anderson, a 34-year-old student, drove her 13-year-old son to the scene early Thursday, after protesters had gone and the scene had calmed down. She grew up in Memphis, but left to Ohio before moving in November to the Frayser neighborhood, a mostly low- to middle-income area north of downtown. Anderson said she worries about her son’s safety every day in Memphis which like other large cities, struggles with violent crime. “I just want him to see this, know what’s going on, to be conscious,” she said from the driver’s seat of her car, with her son in the passenger seat. “I fear for him all the time.” So according to the mayoral candidate, it is not OK for the US Marshals to defend themselves from someone with multiple warrants, who is armed, ramming their vehicles to avoid arrest. The result was the revenge and handling efforts to calm being put on the local police.
  5. I did - However the main topic was meant to focus on the "running up the score" and the "equal pay" controversies. SF really doesn't watch soccer.......
  6. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/soccer/worldcup/2019/06/12/world-cup-2019-why-its-ok-run-up-score-like-usa-did-13-0-win-thailand/1429351001/ https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/10/magazine/womens-soccer-inequality-pay.html The US women's soccer team is incredible. SF could care less that they trounced the Thailand team 13-0 yesterday, and the chorus of "sportsmanship" "over-celebrated" "ran up the score" started immediately. They are the US women's soccer team and are considered the best in the World. WTG girls. The issue to SF its the rising call for "equal pay". My answer is simple - fill the stands first. Professional sports is a business. The team makes more money, the team can afford to pay it's employees more. The other aspect (which SF can agree with - if it can be reality) is that the Women's National Team (I believe it is separate from the league) should be paid commensurate with the performance and competitive level.
  7. SF didn't say anything about bringing them into the country did he?
  8. I find that the Cuban cigars are not that much better (IMHO) that their counterparts, but any cigar that is free always tastes better to SF.......Same of 23 y.o. whiskey - you buying?
  9. https://nypost.com/2019/06/10/jerry-nadlers-trump-bashing-show-is-a-bust/?fbclid=IwAR09rOgRGTWQr_qkRP7ympz6rw95v9TMPf-p-uO2wa8OscjZlVp_7cVodnE “You’re here as a prop. You’re functionally here as a prop because they can’t impeach Donald Trump”: Hand it to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for cutting to the heart of John Dean’s testimony Monday before the House Judiciary Committee. Chairman Jerry Nadler has to put on a show of pursuing President Trump because the party’s left wing demands it. But Speaker Nancy Pelosi won’t let Nadler go to impeachment hearings because she knows the broader public will see it as a partisan outrage. Pelosi’s bid to appease the extremists runs to quotes about how she wants to see Trump“in prison.” Nadler, meanwhile, must resort to, yes, props. John Dean was President Richard Nixon’s loyal flunky until the Watergate prosecutors got the goods on him. He then flipped, testifying against other conspirators before heading off to prison for his own crimes. Since getting out, he’s made a living playing moral paragon: Team Trump’s supposed evils are at least the third time he’s talked of a presidency being “worse than Watergate.” But he doesn’t actually know anything — he was just there to sound off and maybe get Nadler some headlines, a hit on the network evening news or at least a “Daily Show” clip. Thing is, it’s not working: Even CNN didn’t carry the hearing live, because it can’t afford to bore its audience. If Nadler wants to avoid a complete flop, he needs to get not just cynical, but creative. Maybe subpoena Monica Lewinsky? John Dean? Really?
  10. https://www.mediaite.com/online/watch-mayor-pete-glug-booze-with-desus-mero-in-nyc-streets/ 2020 Presidential Candidate Pete Buttigieg got “uptown certified” as Desus & Mero showed him around their home turf in New York City. “I am the only Episcopalian Maltese-American gay war veteran running,” Buttigieg said when the Bodega Boys asked what set him apart from the 23 other Democrats running for the highest office. They discussed the election, as well as some more personal issues. “I don’t think America is ready for my feet,” Buttigieg said when discussing pedicures as a routine self care act, “I find it socially challenging to have somebody rubbing your feet.” The pair asked Buttigieg if he ever thought he would have a shot at being America’s first gay president. “When I was growing up I felt like you could either be out and gay, or you could be in an elected office, but you couldn’t be both,” said Buttigieg. “I live in Indiana, and when I came out, Mike Pence was governor,” said Mayor Pete, who loves a good opportunity to dunk on the VP. “I didn’t know what was going to happen but I wanted to get out and start dating. I got reelected with 80% of the vote.” “We’re gonna close it out with an uptown tradition,” said Desus. “They say in New York City you’re not allowed to have open containers, but if you put an alcoholic beverage in a brown bag, the cops don’t see it.” “Keep it low in case the cops go by. They be trippin’ at the end of the month, bro. Hmmm......
  11. Also the prices are unreal. I try to grab a couple to give to my co-workers as gifts when I am out of the country, but I can't bring myself to smoke a 40 dollar cigar........
  12. America can have a role to play in Cuba’s economic revival, but it will do so by removing sanctions. SF could provide aid to the cigar industry in Cuba if the sanctions were lifted.......
  13. I wonder.......Did they check with their husbands first? AND I can't wait for the line of Amish Nike wear.......

  18. Interesting. Thinking about this, SF remembers his father's mantra - "Love the sinner, hate the sin". Whatever I (or any other christian for that matter) consider to be sin, we cannot let that (opinion) overtake our love for our neighbor and turn into hate. BUT - I certainly don't think the government should be the entity upon which this should fall to be enforced, nor should there be a "law" to that effect. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/christians-surprise-pride-parade-marchers-with-signs-apologizing-for-church-anti-lgbtq-views/?fbclid=IwAR0VnSI6Tj0jZ_scN1xajnCbMOUyPQnpJiPz8qAfuncAL4N7VVqqGZqyhZg Jamilah Salvador was walking in her first ever Pride parade this weekend in the Philippines when she came across something unexpected at the finish. Christians were holding signs apologizing for ways the religion had hurt the LGBTQ community. The 19-year-old was marching with thousands of others in the annual parade in Marikina City, east of the country's capital, Manila. The parade came to a close at Marikina Stadium, where Salvador was pleasantly surprised by the Christian group. "My heart really felt light upon seeing them," Salvador told CBS News. "I stopped when I saw them and read all of their messages and immediately felt goosebumps all over my body, then my tears started to build up." The main banners held by the group listed the ways "Christians harmed the LGBT community," including statements, such as "I've rejected and hurt your family in the name of 'family values.'" The other individual signs varied with messages like, "God loves you, so do we," and "I used to be a Bible-banging homophobe Sorry!!" Salvador said, "people absolutely loved" the group's display, explaining that many marching in the parade had intense reactions to the messages. The teenager told CBS News that some "started bursting into tears upon seeing the signs. Some hugged and talked to these Christians. Some took photos, like what I did, and others just stood there in awe." The photos that Salvador snapped and then posted on Twitter quickly went viral, along with other attendees images. The group who brought the signs to the parade is from the Church of Freedom in Christ Ministries (FICM), an Evangelical and Pentecostal church in Makati, Philippines, reports BuzzFeed News. The church's pastor, Val Paminiani, said that he has been going to Pride parades for around four years as a part of the organization's "I'm Sorry" campaign. Paminiani told BuzzFeed News, "We are apologizing for the way Christians have hurt the LGBT community, especially by using the Bible in condemning and judging them." The pastor continued that, "I used to believe that God condemns homosexuals, but when I studied the Scriptures, especially the ones that we call 'clobber Scriptures' that are being cherry-picked from the Bible to condemn LGBT people, I realized that there's a lot to discover, including the truth that God is not against anyone. God does not discriminate against people based on gender." Paminiani stated that he hopes other Christians will not utilize Scriptures to condemn the LGBT community, because it is keeping people from participating in the church and from Jesus, according to BuzzFeed News. "We pray that more and more Christians will act, speak, and love the LGBT people like Jesus would," he said. If Salvador's reaction is any indication that the pastor's campaign is impacting the community some Christians condemn, this church is fulfilling its mission tenfold. Certainly is the way Christians SHOULD be acting. FTR - "The Religion" didn't hurt the LGBTQ community. Christians (who were not living up to the standards of Christ's teachings) did. In the end, it is not you or I who determines who makes it into heaven.
