With four Pac-12 teams headed to the Big Ten, does this open the door for Hobart, Lowell, East Chicago Central, and Munster to the HHC? Just wondering…

I remember Knight bitching about the late night trip from Penn State.

It’s only a matter of time until the conferences create their own Basketball Tournament and at that point the NCAA is over.

Seriously?  If i'm dropping $70 on a Filet - I better not find out it ain't beef......

    Well done?

A Florida steakhouse chain brags it is the first in the US to serve a plant-based steak.

Charley’s Steak House in Orlando is selling the F U Filet Mignon for $69 (in the mid-range of the chain’s meat prices).

“Freaking unbelievable plant-based by Chunk,” reads the simple description on the online menu.

Chunk Foods is an Israeli food-tech startup aiming “to make delicious, nutritious, plant-based whole cuts that are kind to the environment, and accessible to all.” It’s partially funded by Robert Downey Jr.

Beef tastes like beef, 100%, and it doesn’t even try.

What exactly will you be doing?

lol, taking care of the officials. I told the AD of you put me in charge, we’ll never have a problem having officials. I committed for this season, may go check out a big game on off nights, may sub, I’ve had several people contact me. For the last 40 years my Friday nights have been dictated by my schedule, frankly I’m kind of looking forward to some free time. May just sit in the back yard at the fire pit and drink, who knows what I’ll be doing.

Is this what travel ball has degenerated to?

It’s what youth sports have turned into.

No one is more competitive than I am, I want to win. That being said when I coached we talked a LOT about perspective. Win, lose, or draw, the sun will come up tomorrow. Their people dying in a war in Ukraine, natural disasters all over the world, people losing their lives, their homes, etc., and we get to play a game for fun. Perspective!

Oh and rest assured the kid and the parents involved…..ain’t gettin no scholarship!

Just curious how much neck work is done nowadays?  When I played ball back in the 70s, our daily warm-ups had four drills that focused on neck strength and, in the off-season with weight training, we had a couple stations that also worked the neck as well.  In coaching here in Indiana, I didn't see a lot of neck-related work although I did implement some in our warm-up shortly before retiring from youth coaching.

One of the benefits of all the neck work back in the day between Football and Wrestling did have a positive impact, very difficult to be strangled by hand.

It’s been 20 years since I’ve played college and longer since high school but when I played I never recalled a coach critiquing a tackling technique in practice or film. Just out of curiosity do coaches reprimand and or offer feedback on technique now days?

This is one area that has changed since our playing days.

BNL's season is going to live/die, sink/swim, succeed/fail based on the health of their core O-linemen.  We have 6-7 quite capable of dominating opponents.  A lot of underclassmen after that. We have a lot of capable skill positions on both sides of the ball.

Upside: 1 or 2 players, maybe, playing full time both ways.  A few more contributing on both sides of the ball.  A lot of 1-way starters.

Downside: We lost a lot of good, impactful seniors last year.

Worked a scrimmage last week at JC, the recurring theme I heard from several coaches is we’ll be OK if no one gets hurt.

It’s James Bragg. But overall records don’t mean much to me. I think Tyson Moore at Seymour is very good. But one thing I’ve noticed is, that none of these programs have hired their current HC from outside the school.

Along the lines of your perception is everything comment, is FC or Seymour, at the the time either have hired a HC in the last 20 years been that good of a job? Neither school had really challenged East for the conference,  both schools smallish schools in a big pond, particularly when there were just five classes. Granted, perceptions and things have changed a little since Moore and Bragg were hired.
    Some other random thoughts:

I don’t believe jobs attract the applicants they used to. When a position opens up, at least in the AD’s I talk to, it’s mainly a bunch of young assistants you’ve never heard of.

Why not hire within? Why not take a chance on a guy who’s been busting his ass for you already?

I will give Moore some props, outsider looking in, being a young coach, he brought some guys out of retirement who really seem to be reenergized. I think that’s awesome, these guys still have a lot to offer, particularly a young coach learning how to be a HC.

I believe what IO was saying 😉is that Guardian caps and other similar technologies have been found to reduce linear acceleration of the head in collisions by as much as 11%, but only reduce angular acceleration by about 2%. And, of course, angular acceleration is what produces concussions. At least, that’s what the American Academy of Neurology says.

Interesting that this study was published in 2015, and there are still no good studies demonstrating that these devices reduce the risk of concussion.

    https://www.aan.com/PressRoom/Home/PressRelease/1347

HELMET ADD-ONS MAY NOT LOWER CONCUSSION RISK IN ATHLETES

    WASHINGTON, DC -

Football helmet add-ons such as outer soft-shell layers, spray treatments, helmet pads and fiber sheets may not significantly help lower the risk of concussions in athletes, according to a study released today that will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology’s 67th Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, April 18 to 25, 2015. “Our study suggests that despite many products targeted at reducing concussions in players, there is no magic concussion prevention product on the market at this time,” said study author John Lloyd, PhD, of BRAINS, Inc. in San Antonio, Fla., and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. Researchers modified the standard drop test system, approved by the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment, by using a crash test dummy head and neck to more realistically simulate head impact. Sensors were placed in the dummy’s head to measure linear and angular rotational responses to helmet impacts at 10, 12 and 14 miles per hour. Using this device, BRAINS researchers evaluated four football helmet add-ons: Guardian Cap, UnEqual Technologies’ Concussion Reduction Technology, Shockstrips and Helmet Glide. Riddell Revolution Speed and Xenith X1 football helmets were outfitted with each of these add-ons and impacted five times from drop heights of 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 meters. Linear acceleration, angular velocity and angular accelerations of the head were measured in response to impacts. The study found that compared to helmets without the add-ons, those fitted with the Guardian Cap, Concussion Reduction Technology and Shockstrips reduced linear accelerations by about 11 percent, but only reduced angular accelerations by 2 percent, while Helmet Glide was shown to have no effect. “These findings are important because angular accelerations are believed to be the major biomechanical forces involved in concussion,” said Lloyd. “Few add-on products have undergone even basic biomechanical evaluation. Hopefully, our research will lead to more rigorous testing of helmets and add-ons.” The study was supported by BRAINS, Inc. and Seeing Stars Foundation. What IO was saying was I see no real chance of significantly lowering head trauma in this game until we can change physics or somehow change the viscosity of a player’s Cerebrospinal Fluid. The rest of it is just what the local ATC said.

I think the real issue with any of this type of tech is the companies themselves are not usually in a position to have the research done, Per Bob’s study posted. Riddel or Schutt may have the resources, but does it really make financial sense for them to fund a study that may not add to the bottom line.

I think we have made huge strides in technique changes and at least recognizing there is a problem. I really believe in the near term that’s probably where we need to focus our energy.

  11. On the face of it, our brains are suspended in fluid. When our head is in motion and suddenly stops your brain is still in motion until it hits the side of your skull. You can put all the padding you want over your head, but the fact remains when your head stop’s suddenly, your brain is still going to slam up against your skull.
I sent a text to the local trainer and asked if he could provide some data as to their effectiveness. He responded with “they don’t work, if they did we wouldn’t walk on the field without them.”

Nevermind the many many MANY real serious criminal acts that are coming to light now from the "Biden Crime Family" that are not even being challenged (just ignored) by the MSM.

So here's some different news - Uncle Joe's dog biting the Secret Service agents again and he thinks they are lying about it.......

    https://nypost.com/2023/07/25/biden-dog-commander-bit-or-threatened-10-people-sent-one-to-hospital/

Biden, 80, has reportedly expressed doubts about the honesty of a Secret Service member who reported being bitten on the leg by his prior dog Major, also a German shepherd, and the White House has not disclosed any biting incidents involving Commander, who often can be heard barking on the executive mansion’s grounds.

Behind the scenes, agents described alarming series of incidents.

The most serious incident on Nov. 3 began as a Secret Service officer was seated at the bottom of a stairwell at the White House.

Commander “came down the stairs and walked toward” them, according to an internal agency email.

The dog, unprovoked, reportedly bit the officer’s arm on the tricep area — and, when the officer stood up, chomped down on their quad muscle area on the leg.

Another officer reported that the attack victim reported “a considerable amount of pain” and said that they were forced to use a steel cart to shield against further attack.

An officer at the Secret Service Joint Operations Center wrote, “WH medical treated the officer and made the decision to have [the victim] transported to [redacted] Hospital.”

Two days after the incident, the attacked agent, whose doctor placed them on restricted duty for three days after their visit to the hospital, emailed to a colleague who asked about their recovery: “My leg and arm still hurts. He bit me twice and ran at me twice.”

The fellow Secret Service member wrote back: “What a joke… if it wasn’t their dog he would already have been put down – freaking clown needs a muzzle.”

Some of the incidents directly involved the first family, according to the email cache.

On Nov. 10, a Secret Service Uniformed Division officer was bitten on the left thigh by Commander while first lady Jill Biden walked the dog in the Kennedy Garden near the East Wing and reported “bruising, tenderness and pain in the bite area,” a communication in the document production reveals.

On Nov. 14, another Secret Service officer described in an emailed report having to defend themselves with a chair to prevent being attacked.

The officer wrote that they “heard the dog bark with a loud aggressive sound” and “looked up and saw him at the landing of the ushers staircase. I made eye contact with him and grabbed the black chair I was sitting on and held it in front of me while backing up.”

On Dec. 11, a Secret Service special agent in the Presidential Protective Division reported being was bitten after the president took Commander off his leash after watching a movie — writing that he had a 1.5 cm cut and bruising to the attacked agent’s arm and a 1 cm cut due to a second bite on his hand and thumb.

One of the agent’s bosses wrote in an email also released to Judicial Watch that “this occurred after departing the family movie theatre” with “Commander and family members (total 6 participants).”

President Biden “requested to take Commander (on the leash) to the Kennedy Garden. Once at the KG, POTUS took Commander off the leash to run free. I was present to observe [redacted] departing from the Kennedy Garden to move behind [redacted] toward the south ground drive via the internal garden gate when [the attack] occurred.”

A workplace injury form show that a Secret Service officer also was bitten on Dec. 16.

“I was walking across the complex and a dog bit my left arm,” the officer wrote, describing the injury as, “Dog bite, superficial laceration, contusion, soreness, and bruising.”

On Christmas Eve, a Secret Service inspector wrote to colleagues that one day prior another officer “was bitten while posted at [redacted location] yesterday.”

“Nearly every official in the room with me today spoke about specific incidents surrounding the First Family’s dog,” the inspector’s email said.

On Jan. 2, an agency technical security investigator was attacked when investigating an alarm at the president’s Wilmington home, where he often spends the weekend.

“Commander squeezed his way through the door and immediately bit/latched onto the lower right side of my back,” the attack victim wrote in an email.

A person whose name was redacted from the email “told Commander to get down and assisted in pulling him off,” the technician wrote.

“The total incident did not last more than about 10 seconds and Commander went back inside the residence. [The person whose name was redacted] was apologetic after the incident. After checking my lower back, there’s a 1×1 scratched, bruised spot where Commander grabbed onto and was bleeding consistent of a scratch like rug burn.”

The incidents seemed to begin in October of last year.

In the first documented instance, on the morning of Oct. 5, Commander “jumped on” an emergency response technician on the White House grounds and bit at their “arm/wrist area”

On Oct 3 at a door leading to the garden near the East Wing, Commander “inflicted a ‘friendly soft bite’ on [a Secret Service agent’s] forearm as [he] held the door open,” though “no skin was broken from the bite.”

On Oct. 26, a uniformed division Secret Service officer wrote: “Commander has been exhibiting extremely aggressive behavior. Today, while posted, he came charging at me. The First Lady couldn’t regain control of commander [sic] and he continued to circle me. I believe it’s only a matter of time before an agent/officer is attacked or bit.”

“He would have bit me today if I didn’t step towards him a couple different times. It was bad enough that the agent on the detail asked if I got bit – just so you’re aware.”

Awesome does this mean more senseless congressional hearings?

Buddy, you can bring Brownstown down here anytime you want. They’ve been trying to find matchup opponents for a while but nobody but Silver Creek will agree to play them so they’re forced to schedule Louisville and Terra Haute teams.

Having to play seven conference games and Seymour (gate) kinda limits their options.

I’d love to have East Central but that’s not very likely to happen. The travel times would be pretty rough for them.

I’d love to have Columbus North but they think they’re above the HHC. I guess they’d better hope Conference Indiana doesn’t finally fall through or they might actually have to tuck their tails between their legs and come knocking at the HHC’s door.

A Bloomington North return to the conference would be kind of cool. It would give BNL a western rival and keep them from feeling like the outlier.

Going along with that last one, I wouldn’t complain having Bloomington South either but they’re similar to Columbus North. I get the impression they have a high opinion of themselves.

If Scottsburg ever grows then I think they’d have to be considered. I know they were 4A for a short time.

I keep thinking one of those Louisville suburb schools (outside of the three already in the conference) will grow enough eventually. Maybe I’m wrong though.

Outside of those schools, I’m not sure who else really falls within the geographic footprint that is 4A or bigger.

Absolutely would love to see EC, but realistically probably would never happen. With the big/small split in the EIAC gives EC the chance to play their rivals, Roncalli, GCCL team or two, and Harrison. I think EC is upgrading their athletic program across the board, would be a great fit other than geographically.
South Dearborn has been talked about, better fit geographically but a bit of downgrade athletically.
I don’t see BHSN adding anything of value to the conference, other than a rival for BNL. For the HHC Bloomington would be our Terre Haute.
Columbus North would be the logical choice, but it’ll never happen
