Question for @Impartial_Observer. Are there referees who can work both IHSAA games and games of another state? If I was a ref and I lived near the border of Indiana and either Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, or Michigan I’d want to have as many options open as possible. Therefore, I wasn’t sure if this was something that was possible for a ref to do.

Yes, I know a few guys who maintain duel licenses. Could be a bit confusing mechanics wise.

It was definitely the right call. They just couldn’t execute it.

As for Floyd Central, they still have two HHC games left. Unless some sort of miracle happens in which they lose out to Jennings County and New Albany, they’re going to be champs for the first time in 20 years. Well-deserved. Coach Bragg, his staff, and all those kids deserve all the credit.

My mistake, I thought they only had one.

Question for the group....I'm not very familiar with the IHSAA success factor formula. Is it every two years they apply it? If EC were to make it to Semi-State, would that push them to 5A next year? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that if you get 6 points in a 2 year window you move up. I thought I saw that winning state is 4 points and if they win regional this year that would get them 2 points. Does the success factor apply to public schools or just private schools?

Seeing how Sagarin, MaxPreps, and CalPreps all have the current 1A, 3A, and 4A #1 teams ranked ahead of the current 5A #1, I think EC will be just fine in 5A.

I read a lot of questions and articles regarding officiating being a basketball official (JV and lower) and football coach.  Anyway I have a few questions:

    1. Will crews who get rated very low say average a 1.5 on the new scale (not tournament ready) still get a playoff game because there are not enough crews? Or will games get moved?  Would the IHSAA take a crew out of the Northwest and send them to Southwest?

    2. Will the IHSAA move to a "basketball" type system where they break up crews and get the "best" individuals to referee tournament games?

    3. What would you do if you were a good young (or old) official on a low scoring crew? (Leave the crew, would you get recruited to another crew, etc.)

    1. Just depends on how many crews apply I guess.
    2. God I hope not.

    3. You gotta know, hey we’re young, we’re learning, we’re getting better, this crew sucks and it’s not going anywhere. I would think it would be pretty easy to tell and make the determination based on what you know.

I'm not sure I really understand that? They beat BNL in the Sectional Championship just a few years ago. They won a Neutral site game against Terre Haute South. I'm not arguing with anyone picking BNL, but I'm not sure the "FC needs to win a game that counts" applies here. I've seen plenty of HHC teams lose games that count including BNL.

    I said what I said.

What is going on at Greensburg? I'm hearing some wild rumors. Does the GID need to have some drinks over a campfire to discuss this?

My fire pit is always open, and I’m always down for some ice cold Coca-Colas around the fire. But there are rules:

    1) No effing phones, embrace the atmosphere and fellowship.

    2) Farts are encouraged because farts are always funny

    3) Feel free to embellish any story, so long as it adds to the story.

    4) You will be made fun of, you will be laughed at, as will everyone else, don’t be a twatwaffle.

Listen, I understand how hard that job is. I appreciate the people that give up their nights to do that job. I felt that crew last Friday was trying to make their mark on the game. They were tossing flags just to toss flags. Missed calls are understandable. Human error. Nobody is perfect. But that crew made some bad calls. I felt they got better after coach Bragg talked to them after halftime. I'm sure he questioned some calls.

I wasn’t replying to you, just some general observations. Glad Coach Bragg got them headed on the right path.

  8. It might pain some of you guys to know how dire the situation is with officials. There are several school each week using throw together crews, many times with guys who lack sufficient experience to handle a V game. No clue who the crew was at East or if this was even the case but I can tell you East was one of those schools.
Example my crew retired after last season, we had games scheduled into 2028. We were one of two crews in our small association. Larger associations lost even more. IOA guys have told me they’ve lost 12 in the last three years. That’s a ton of experience, mentors, trainers, etc. leaving the profession. I have had several long time officials ask me about my experience, have I missed it, etc. because we’re all old and frankly I’ve reached a point in my life where other people’s children are no longer a priority for me.

  9. The situation at BC has been a long time coming. Revolving doors in the AD’s office and from what I understand the principal’s office is what leads to this. I made the comment to some friends after working a MS game over there last year, how long before they give up on Football? It was clearly seen as something to just get over. I’m a Football guy, I want to see Football thrive, and that’s clearly not the case at BC.

Oh I'm sure I overreacted. I just don't know how you call pass interference on a  defensive back that is 2 yards away from the WR and the ball is 8 feet over both of their heads.

I don't know how good I'd be, but I'd at least try to be fair.

    I’m just trying to help.
FWIW I thought the crew at Seymour/Brownstown did a great job.
