What a brutal draw for Brownstown. I mean Pekin should make sectional finals. Crazy.

WW gets bye and probably out. SV vs Providence again (most likely) at Providence. But should make for a hell of a final game.

    Paoli got a good draw.

Brownstown will be fine hosting Scecina, championship game will be in Fairland week 2.

  2. I’ll be honest fellas, I took Seymour, but historically NA has been a thorn in Seymour’s side. Seymour has lost some games to them they shouldn’t have.  But this is another year, perhaps I place too much importance on historical data as it relates to today. Hopefully everyone plays their best and stays healthy, let the chips fall where they may.

It's so good to see the old blood boiling again!  I'm going to get down there early tomorrow night to beat the crowd.  Tickets are bought.

I don’t have a dog in the fight and my blood is far from boiling. Just calling out bullshit when I see it. A nicked up Roncalli group will take their ass whoopin like men, and the old Cathedralites can feel even better about themselves Saturday morning scrolling thru the box score.

    Really?

So why was Roncalli the only school to drop Cathedral? And for football only no less? Cathedral still plays Chatard every year and has played Brebeuf several times since the agreement was drawn up. Ritter and Scecina aren't feasible football opponents for Cathedral so they don't really factor into the equation. This was absolutely an athletically motivated decision and anybody who believes otherwise is lying to themselves. If there were truly major philosophical differences between Cathedral and Roncalli they'd have discontinued any and all events. Roncalli was tired of getting their teeth kicked in by a rival and took the easy way out. Roncalli wanted to dictate Cathedral's demographics to level the playing field and Cathedral laughed at them.

    Cowards.

So they were cowards and now they’re not, what has changed?

My point? That Roncalli's discontinuation of the series had nothing to do with the abovementioned agreement on how each school went about contacting CYO kids and everything to do with Roncalli's competitiveness (or lack thereof) on the field. The fact that Roncalli continued to schedule Cathedral in everything BUT varsity football only reaffirms that, as Roncalli is typically competitive and in some cases better than Cathedral at just about everything else.

The issue goes well above Roncalli or Cathedral’s athletic departments. You know that as well as anyone. What has changed in the last few years that would precipitate a new contract? Look at Roncalli’s SOS in any sport, they’re at the top. Your cowardice analogy is laughable. Perhaps someone more in tune with the holy wars could spell it out for you better than me.

Ill admit I'm not an encyclopedia of Recruiting history, and I know there is a pre-rankings era to consider, BUT id love to be filled in about how many times IU was able to land 3 top 30 recruits in a single class, had to be rare even in the peak of Knight days. I'm also well aware recruiting ranking don't by any stretch relate to success at the college level as well.

Just a pretty impressive feat for any college coach regardless of program.

I’m more inclined to be impressed by what’s left hanging when they leave.

If Woodson pulls off the Trifecta on these 3 or even just 2 of the 3 it will be one of the biggest single classes IU has landed in its History.

    Bold statement.

Yes, just sharing information. Not all is unicorns and rainbows in the world of artificial playing surfaces, as I'm sure you would agree.

And congrats for being at work since 7:30am.  My work day today started at approx. 6:20am.

FWIW I’m up about 4:20 AM everyday…..piss and go right straight back to bed.

Series was renewed in February of 2021, less than 3 months after Roncalli ran roughshod through the 4A tournament and was expected to return arguably their most talented on-paper team possibly ever. I find this quote from Roncalli's AD particularly interesting:

“It’s been a work in progress for a few years to get this rivalry back together,” Roncalli athletic director David Lauck said. “We play Cathedral in all other sports, so it’s time to get back together on the gridiron.”

Yes after winning one of the three they expected with what has been known was a strong group since they were in CYO. No one foreshadowed a long run of Roncalli dominance. It was a three year run, and the contract resumed after said run, I still fail to see your point. I don’t have a dog in the fight, you’re all cheatin Catholics as far as I’m concerned.

You and I, along with everybody else, knows this had nothing to do with the principal agreement put in place and everything to do with Roncalli hitting a down cycle and not wanting to continue getting their tails kicked in. Roncalli still and to this day has scheduled Cathedral in every sport (Frosh, JV, Varsity) minus varsity football. It’s never been about what you’ve just claimed.

Roncalli wanted Cathedral to become more “Catholic” in regards to their football roster and Cathedral said, “We’re good”. Roncalli, took their ball and went home and the directions of each program couldn’t have gone different routes.

    Cowards.

Some might argue the Rebs…..errr Royals are in a bit of a down cycle right now, yet here they are fresh after a trip to Male facing Cathedral with a home town finale vs another push over from SE Indiana. Outsider looking in, your argument doesn’t hold water.

Why would they not? Roncalli HATES Cathedral. Roncalli hated Cathedral so much that at one point several years back, they tried to dictate where Cathedral got their kids ie "X amount of football roster must be catholic" while also telling Cathedral to stay out of the south deanery. When Cathedral laughed in their face, they took their ball and went home and stopped playing them. Cowards.

I don’t think it’s just Roncalli that hates Cathedral.
And I seem to recall some other issues ending the contract, but I’m old, my memory ain’t what it used to be.

Trust me. I understand what you're saying. I also understand why it's frustrating for you. If someone criticized my field of work, I'd be upset too. I get it. You aren't wrong whatsoever.

No I don’t think you do. Officiating is not my field of work to begin with, it’s an avocation. Why would I be upset if someone criticizes the officials? All I’m trying to do is give some insight into the situation. I have no idea who worked your last two games, no idea whether they were good or bad. I’m certainly not going to put a lot of stock in what any fan would have to say. Nothing personal towards fans, they just don’t know/understand rules and mechanics. That’s not a slight, it’s just a fact.
One thing you need to absolutely believe, if you think it’s bad now, just wait, because guys are retiring and they’re not being replaced.

More than likely will be a three dog race between Btown, Triton, and Scecina in 39. Triton and Scecina both play in a conference that has some pretty tough 1A (cough cough, Indy Lutheran) and 2A competition.

I saw the TC/Scecina game last week.  Not sure Scecina is in the mix, the BC/TC matchup will be fun to watch. TC’s has some dudes, and they can throw the ball. TC’s best ball carrier did not play.

Not sure how many Salem fans are on here. Saw a YouTube highlight of Salem and Silver Creek. Does Salem wear that black and neon yellow jersey for their home uniforms or was that like a special uniform night?

They wore them last year first week of the tournament, I thought they were hideous. Friend of mine texted me a pic from the game and asked “are those really their uniforms?”

I'd love to be able to watch the replay and actually count all the penalties. Context does matter. What type of penalties and when they're called. I've never been a "blame the officials" guy but the past 2 weeks it felt like we were on the wrong side of the whistle. Can I be wrong? Sure. Most of our fanbase agrees with me though. Like I said. I've said all I need to say about and probably more than I need to say about it. It's over. I'm more concerned now about a JC team looking to play spoiler. We got caught overlooking them last year and paid for it.

FWIW I’ve watched four different crews work at Seymour this year. If you listen to the fans, I don’t think they have had an issue with any of them. In fact I think for the most part they were never noticed, which is one of the goals. From an official’s standpoint I thought two of them were outstanding, one was mediocre at best, and the other one wasn’t very good at all, bordering on bad. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

There are games happening every Friday night, crews are being thrown together to cover games, guys are working V long before they are ready. This is the situation as it exists today. I’ve had two frantic calls from AD’s looking for a crew this Friday. Now more than ever the game needs your help. Sign up to officiate your local youth league, get your license and become part of the solution. It’s always easy to sit back and bitch.

Got called for a chop block and they don't even teach cut blocking.

Just so we’re clear, cut blocking and a chop block are not the same thing.

Been a long time since I was a “fan” but when I was I don’t think it ever dawned on me to heckle the opposing crowd because I was pissed off at the officials. What sense does that make? AFTER A WIN!

I was at this game. It was ruled as off sides on the kicker #80, but the flag was not thrown until the ball went 10 yards. I was told by my son who plays for North, said that for an onside kick, the kick is allowed to be offside, as long as he is on the correct side when the ball is kicked. My biggest question is, if the refs seen or felt it was offsides for the kick off, why did they not tell them this was not acceptable? They knew what was about to happen. Everyone there knew what was going to happen.

Before each game, coaches will be asked do you have any unusual plays or anything we (officials) need to be aware of. This is a GREAT time to mention stuff like this. I was not there, but it is my understanding the crew knew there was going to be onside kick, they weren’t aware of this play. I don’t blame the crew for what happened, this is clearly an interpretation issue and not necessarily a rules knowledge issue. This KO has been shared and discussed nationally.
