The South Bend St. Joseph High School is removing the "Indian" name from it's sports teams and looking for a new name.......SF wonders if slightly obese men will be offended by the proposed name "Husky"?  IDK.....Asking for a friend.....

  2. I’m just catching up on stuff I missed when my kids were around. I had a daughter with a softball habit and a son who was going to be a rock star.

I know what I said last time BUT I say a lot if things haha no in all seriousness I think tonight is a massive turning point in the tenure of Mike Woodson one way or the other...…

reality regardless of what people say about the conference this year, a win tonight puts Woodson 4-1 vs the Boilers (and a dumb Xavier Johnson half court shot with 8 secs left away from being 5-0) and his arguably least talented roster in sole possession of 2nd place in the Big Ten. Lose tonight and ? 3-2 vs Purdue will be 3-3 by the end of the season and jammed in the middle somewhere with 0 quad 1 wins in late Jan and NET ranking that could slip into the 100s OUCH.

I like Coach and want him to succeed but I feel like his ego is a little exhausting something I didn't realize he had (but then again anyone willing to coach the NY Knicks has to have an ego tbh) .

In the coaches show last night he decided he wanted to play the martyr by saying " I Love the fans at Indiana, and I hope they love me too." fair enough BUT less than 24 hours earlier he gets crappy with reporters when asked about his rotations? Come on Coach look you fired your best assistant coach because you didn't like people talking about him as the next HC an him questioning your methods. You've been back to the tourney but absolutely embarrassed in 2 losses and constructed a roster of guards in the age of NIL that would ride the bench at any other power 5 school. Answer the tough questions you haven't earned that right yet. He's finding out the hard way IU fans don't really care how many points you scored in an IU uniform in the late 70s and early 80s.

For better or for worse I think we could look back on tonight as that pivotal moment

    FWIW

Archie's - Home loss to Purdue in Coach Knights return should have fired in in the locker room !

Crean's - Don't think he had anyone one moment really, extreme disappointment of 2013 coupled with the inconsistency of missing the tourney all together after Big Ten title seasons

I agree with everything you said. I heard in the radio this morning they were playing, and I really feel like this is a must win for IU. Then I immediately realized that if IU is playing tonight, my wife will be watching that and I can get back to my Justified binge. No clue what happens to IU, but it’s a win/win for me.

  4. All it’s going to take for the NCAA to fold, is for two of the P5 decide to start their in BB tournament.

Call me a romantic, I will never apologize for being a supporter of education based sports. Granted big time FB and MBK are a far cry from that. But let’s look at college sports as a whole. March Madness pays the tab for everything. When the NCAA loses their MBK tournament so long to the NCAA LAX, wrestling, WBK, SB, BB, VB championships in D1, D2, and D3. The vast majority of college athletes aren’t one and done and skipping classes come spring semester. How many of those kids don’t even get a college education were it not for athletics?

NCAA is gone, nothing more than a pro minor league. I see big changes looming on the horizon. If you don’t think it’s coming to a HS near you, you need to get your head out of the sand.

Likely my final IU basketball discourse,

in the age of NIL , and when donors have paid almost 40 Mil to tell a FB and BBALL coach to go away. Their is 0 excuse for this poor of guard play for poor roster construction.

Indiana has had 1 basketball coach since Bob Knight capable of elevating the program to the level of sustained success it should have (Winning multiple Big Ten titles, making the tourney every year, and talented enough for a possible Final Four run some years) His name was Kelvin Sampson and he had the shortest tenure of any coach.

In an age before the transfer portal or NIL Sampson finished with 20 + wins, 3rd in the Big Ten and Tourney berth/ Tourney win (took #7 UCLA to the wire in round 2) IN YEAR 1. In year 2 he signs Eric Gordon to pair with another All American in DJ White a roster of solid role players. They were 22-4 when Sampson was fired...........

Now at 68 years old Sampson has built non power conference Houston into a top national program with a final four.

Bill Self, Rick Pitino, Sean Miller, Jim Harbaugh in Football, heck Bob Knight himself. Just win that's it just win and you don't have to do it with a bunch of choir boys

And you’ve hit on the point where IU and I parted ways. Sampson is a cheater. IU knew that when they hired him and he came in and continued cheating. Izzo’s post Northwestern rant was spot on. The guys IU is recruiting may well be four or five star AAU guys, but in what limited time my wife has forced me to watch this crap, they’re soft, they’re not competitors, and they’re lazy. Mediocrity is the bar at Bloomington and it has been since the Glass administration.

If we are comparing Floyd Central Wrestling to Jennings County wrestling history please allow me to educate.  Floyd Central has 32 sectional team championships compared to Jennings 22.  Floyd has won regionals 14 times compared to Jennings 3. Floyd Central is the Team State Champion in 3A and also has been runner up.  Jennings qualified in 2016.  If you want to compare individuals Floyd Central has had 34 State place winners, 7 being State Champions, another 49 have qualified for the state tournament.  Jennings County has had 17 State place winners, 1 being a State champion, along with 22 qualifiers.
Glad to have them and East in our conference to challenge us, but know your history.

I wasn’t comparing FC and JC’s wresting programs, but I will consider myself an educated.  Do you feel like FC’s dominance in wrestling is superior genetics?

Buddy, Floyd Central isn't irrelevant in anything. Hell, they won the 3A State Championship in Wrestling yesterday. They have a good basketball coach in Fonso White. They're in a rebuild but they'll be rolling again in a few years. Don't compare Jennings County to Floyd Central. It's not even worth an argument.

Might want to do a little homework before you head down the legacy wrestling road.

Been associated with youth football for a decade plus. I understand the physical differences between 2nd graders and 7th graders. But they don’t play each other and I have to hope most responsible leagues have age appropriate divisions. Younger kids aren’t typically bringing the force of older kids. I get all leagues aren’t the same when it comes to coach selection, development and safety, but some coaches I’ve experienced at the middle school level have no business being on a sideline. The same with equipment condition and kids being fit properly at middle school. I just don’t prescribe the game is safer for middle schoolers.

I have not seen a high incidence of head type injuries during my time associated with youth football and injuries in general not out of the norm with other sports.

But hey, I respect your views. As stated before, football not meant to be everyone’s game.

My issue isn’t age discrepancies. I’m more concerned with young undeveloped necks supporting young undeveloped heads, with an additional 3 pounds added to it. Football also requires a certain amount of mental maturity to play the game and 56’ers struggle with it, much less younger kids. I understand younger kids don’t hit hard enough to hurt each other. Yes you’ll get the odd kid falling wrong, I get all that. I think there’s enough evidence that there could be a link between CTE and other brain related diseases and repeated trauma to the head. The info’s out there, I’m not here to debate it, just stating my opinion.
Quite possibly the larger issue is how many slow developers do we lose because they were out in a no win situation, get the shit knocked out of them and say screw this. If you’ve been involved in youth Football for 10 years I’m sure you’ve seen the 4th grade runt that grows up to be an all conference lineman. I’m sure you’re also aware of the 4th grade phenoms that never even see the field or play in HS.

I’m interested in growing the game. If we don’t adapt, and I feel like the NFHS has done a great job with recent rule changes that moves us in a positive direction. I am not advocating for banning tackle football under 7th grade. I feel like we’re at a place where we can still accomplish the fundamental skills we need without full contact in 56ers, and if the powers that be see fit to do such a thing, I wouldn’t be mad about it.

Curious....what makes the game safer at 12-13 vs 11-12?  Feels like a false comfort.

I'd hate the thought that kids would be denied learning the game itself and what the game teaches you until middle school so people feel more comfortable.  There is so much competing for a youth's attention, and love of the game can start much earlier than 12 years old.  If there is truly a quantifiable risk/safety issue,  (I've read many studies that conflict) then why wouldn't we push for the same restriction for other sports, such as girl's and boy's soccer, competitive cheerleading, etc.  As Temp says, what is the risk of kids sitting on the couch as home??  It is not zero.

    Just my opinion.

Not sure on your age analysis but physically there’s a hell of a difference between 2nd/3rd graders and 7 graders.

Yea, I’m clearly in the sit at home on the coach camp. Unbelievable!

At the Region 4 meeting it was explained to us that lower level games could be played as 8 man games en lieu of cancelling a game.  So a Varsity could play 11 man and JV could play 8 man.

I showed up for a JV game late in the season to be informed we would be playing 8-man. I wasn’t even sure if we could do such a thing, but we had two teams there and four officials so we went with it.
All that being said, I’m all for smaller schools doing whatever they need to, for kids to play. I don’t want anything to do with it. Didn’t strike me as particularly appealing.
