  1. Boy was I wrong about this game. I figured Mock would have a solid game rushing but definitely did not expect this type of close shootout. Mock is looking like a power 5 running back.
  2. I would be genuinely surprised if Gibson Southern doesn't win by at least 3 scores. Just saying.
  3. I agree. The kids I know who have gotten it all experienced minimal, short-lived symptoms. One kid told me he woke up with a sore throat then was completely fine the next day. Another kid told me he woke up with a stuffy nose and headache then was completely fine the next day. There are numerous things on a daily basis that pose a greater threat to kids than this virus.
  4. I agree. I think VL has proven that they can compete with the bigger teams in the SIAC, especially with coaching and physicality. When it comes to overall speed and amount of skilled athletes, that's where their disadvantage may often come. Sure, their goal is probably to win the games, but I would say it's a success for them if they are competitive in each game and maybe go 3-6 in their first SIAC season. I could see them beating Harrison and possibly Memorial. I think they will be competitive against Castle. I don't see them hanging with Central, North, or Jasper.
  5. Forest Park @ Tecumseh - by 3 scores North Posey @ Tell City - by 2 scores Gibson Southern @ Boonville - by 3 scores Phalen Academy @ Princeton - by 2 scores Mt. Vernon @ Owensboro Catholic - by 3 scores South Spencer @ Heritage Hills - by 4 scores North Daviess @ Washington - running clock Southridge @ Pike Central - running clock
  6. Bosse @ Jasper - Jasper by a lot Memorial @ MD - Memorial in a close one Reitz @ North - Reitz gets revenge and bounces back in a close one Castle @ Harrison - Castle by a lot VL @ Central - VL will hang around for a half but Central pulls away
  7. Reitz is pretty good but will get even better. Brickey and the defense are still improving with the new systems. Jasper is very good. I would not be surprised if they win out and take the conference title in their first season. Looking forward to their matchups against Central and North. North continues to dominate but can they continue the momentum with a tough opponent in Reitz making the trip from the west side? If I remember correctly, North narrowly escaped Reitz last season. Mater Dei proved that they are still a contender with a nice win on the road. Honestly thought VL would win that one.
  8. I know everybody from everywhere and everything about anything. 😏
  9. I believe HH will not be back at full strength until next week at the earliest. Not sure about Boonville. GS has not found a week 4 game as far as I know, and there probably are not many (if any) options right now.
  10. Probably true. Would be nice to have both Allen and Pence to give them different looks.
  11. Fun topic. I don't know enough teams/players to include the best of the best. But using all-state/all-conference teams, here is what I could come up with for the "all-star small school team"... QB - Brady Allen (Gibson Southern) RB - Ryan Walsh (Andrean) WR - Cannon Melchi (West Lafayette), Noble Johnson (Parke Heritage), Bryant Boggs (Wabash), Drew Stutzman (South Adams) TE - Jacob Strange (West Washington) OL - Braden Tucker (Gibson Southern), Joe Strickland (Brebeuf Jesuit), Jaxon Miller (Triton Central), Tristen Hayes (Oak Hill), Dylan Mathena (Tell City) DL - Antwann Dix (Cardinal Ritter), Mo Omonode (West Lafayette), Blake Ritzert (Mt. Vernon), James Ralph (Evansville Mater Dei) LB - Lucas Hines (Brownstown Central), Hayden Kermode (Triton Central), Hayden Karlaftis (West Lafayette) DB - Lane Burns (Eastside), Grant Bell (Sullivan), Isaiah Dalton (Eastbrook), Peyton Wert (Milan) To answer your question, yes. I think this small school all star team could compete or beat Center Grove. But it would be close.
  12. Bosse @ Castle - running clock Central @ Memorial - by 3 scores Mater Dei @ Vincennes - by 2 scores North @ Harrison - running clock My game of the week: Jasper @ Reitz - by 1 score This will come down to whether Brickey and the Reitz offense can minimize their mistakes. Jasper is typically very disciplined and will capitalize on the mistakes of opponents. I'll take the home team in the Bowl.
  13. Very sloppy. 10 turnovers, 5 for each team. I think VL is good enough to be competitive in the SIAC. Looks like they have a solid defense at least. Reitz is better than what they are showing, as they are going through growing pains with a new system. They will need to speed that process up as the tough part of their schedule is approaching. Jasper and North loom large in the coming weeks.
  14. Heritage Hills @ Boonville - by 2 scores North Posey @ Southridge - running clock Pike Central @ South Spencer - by 2 scores Princeton @ Mt. Vernon - running clock Tell City @ Forest Park - by 1 score Washington @ Gibson Southern - running clock
  15. I'm all for teams still playing the games if they have enough kids to field a team. Who knows how many games they'll get this year and it could give younger kids some experience. Props to HH for giving it a go, despite knowing that they may suffer another loss. I'm a big "don't-let-Covid-win" guy. Tell City is looking solid but I still think SR beats them handily. It is cool seeing Tell City and Forest Park do well though.
  16. Majority of schools in southern Indiana will be discussing and deciding that today. I would guess a few games that involve longer travel will make the move.
  17. It's possible that some games in the SIAC and PAC get moved to Saturday afternoon/evening due to remnants of the hurricane moving through on Friday.
  18. Looks like it was the Ritzert kid who was an all stater for their defense last year. Impressive play for an offensive tackle lol
  19. Saw the highlight of it. One of the better high school effort plays I've seen in a while.
  20. Central @ Bosse Harrison @ Jasper Memorial @ North Reitz @ Vincennes Lincoln Castle @ Mater Dei
  21. Have to agree based on what I saw. Harrison has some speedy athletes, but they need to get the QB situation figured out. The Reitz special teams issues could be an easy fix with some personnel changes I would think. Other than that, their defense looked okay considering most of them probably did not play much last year. Their offense could be dangerous. Brickey is a load at QB and has a quite a few weapons at his disposal. The Burns kid seems to be a difference maker on both sides of the ball. Look for Reitz to improve and be one of the top contenders in the conference.
  22. Forest Park @ Perry Central Princeton @ North Posey Heritage Hills @ Tell City South Spencer @ Mt. Vernon Pike Central @ Tecumseh Southridge @ Boonville Whiteland @ Gibson Southern
  23. They have size up front and they have their QB (Blake Mann) back who stepped in and ran that offense very well last season. Should be no easy task for Memorial.
