Can I hear more details about how Tech could “try harder?” Look, when 80+% of your students come from broken/single parent homes, it’s an uphill battle that is damn near impossible without some sort of enrollment advantage (see BD/Warren). You just have to see it to believe it…and you can’t. You can’t even wrap your mind around it. Correct on Saban. Why couldn’t he win consistently at Michigan State? Did they not “try hard enough?” Did he all of a sudden attend a coaching clinic and become a legend once he entered the SEC? Why’d he fail in the NFL?

Because you make it seem like hood schools/schools with obvious barriers just need to “try harder” and they could be dominant football programs. Does the ground up include home life? So many variables beyond a coaches’ control at a place like Tech. I’ve said it before…Nick Saban couldn’t win a state title at Tech. There’s a reason they cycle through coaches every 2-3 years.

Any hood. Compare the roughly 2000-2500 students at CG, Tech, Perry and Southport and tell me that the latter three just simply need to dedicate more time to their youth/feeder programs, build a culture, and hire the right guy, lol.

I think it’s becoming a bit of a culture at Carmel. This’ll piss @Footballking16 off but I’ve long been a believer that socioeconomic status determines, in large part, how successful a school’s athletic program is… Carmel has the opposite problem of Tech. Their disadvantaged population (just under 10 percent at last check) is a detriment in football because those kids simply don’t have the same “grit” as districts in the sweet spot of 20-35%. Football (safety issues) has become the devil to “soccer moms” in many areas and Carmel likely has more than its fair share of those compared to other areas. Once again another theory…that I’ll get skull dragged for. Tee off.

Not a coincidence that two CG slappies (whose favorite team has an enrollment around 2500) are going in on me here. It’s easy to say I am not wrong but we will never know. There is no way to tangibly prove what I’m claiming. It’s a theory. My record speaks for itself. You might like like what I say or how I say it..:but I’m right more than I’m wrong.

There simply a point of diminishing returns once you reach a certain number. Another hypothetical: What if Carmel were split into two schools of 2700? I’m betting both schools’ record averages out to be just over .500 unless you “filter” the football players one place and certain athletes gravitate towards one school. There is little difference between 2500 and 5000…much less than 1000 to 3500 or 1500 to 4000. This isn’t that hard. Stop getting your feelings hurt. CG is damn good. You’re taking this as some sort of slight against the Trojans. I respect their program more so than any other program in the state. You also don’t like me and are letting emotions dictate your outrage. It’ll be ok. I promise.

You are viewing things as an absolute. You CAN win with 5000+ but in certain sports it’s detrimental. I can’t believe you have me defending Carmel. LOL. No, not at all.

You can only put 11 varsity football players on the field at once. Same with basketball. Two sports in which Carmel is not among the state's elite currently. Not a coincidence. You're trying really hard though. Its cute. Yep. Moore is one hell of a coach. The exception, not the rule. Eric Moores don't grow on trees.

One combined thread this week for the beginning of the 6A tournament. 77-16 (.828) on the season... Avon @ Pike: Huge kudos to the Orioles for gutting out two consecutive wins to end the regular season after an 0-7 start. Now, losing this game may be a blessing in disguise as what will happen to the winner the following week will not be pretty, but nonetheless the winner can hold their head high for 6 days. Gimme Avon on the road, 27-17. Brownsburg @ Ben Davis: Many people's state finals contest as a top 100 team nationally is going home in week #1. I've been as critical as anyone of Brownsburg's inability to convert regular season success into postseason success and even though this is likely their best team of the John Hart era, drawing a road game right off the bat against a team that is their equivalent gives me pause. I am going to go with the Giants 30-27. Fishers @ Homestead: I think this game tells us a lot about Fishers as they will travel outside of the Indy metro area for the first time this fall. If you want to be considered among the state title favorites, this is a business trip that is not close in the 4th quarter. Which Homestead will show up? The one who beat Snider or the one blown out by Noblesville? I say somewhere in between. Tigers roll 34-14. Franklin Central @ Center Grove: Poor FC. Still getting their feet wet in the HCC and showing signs of improvement and they draw the defending state champions in round 1 for the second consecutive year. This time ON the road. CG escaped this one last year as I believe it was their closest contest of the tournament. I think FC hangs early and CG pulls away late. CG wins 27-14. Hamilton Southeastern @ Fort Wayne Northrop: The Royals' bus ride to this one may be longer than the game itself as Northrop will provide little resistance and I expect a running clock here. Royals win 49-0. Lawrence Central @ Lawrence North: An intriguing one here as these two teams are fairly evenly matched and have the capability to make a run to regionals if they play well in round 2. Round 1 of this rivalry went to LN at LOS in what was a surprise to me at the time. LN never looked back and was actually a couple of plays away from winning 7-8 games. I will take LN again, largely because they are at home. Wildcats win 30-24. Noblesville @ Zionsville: I have been anticipating Noblesville's demise for some time now as they are very inconsistent. I heaped praise on them after they took Brownsburg down to the wire and a week later they lose at last place Avon. I still feel they have potential to win this one and am going to (unconfidently) pick them on the road in a rematch of a game they comfortably won at home in the regular season. Millers win 20-17. North Central @ Cathedral: The nightmare opening season for Coach Hart ends in the opening round of sectionals as they travel to a Cathedral squad with state title aspirations. This was a 43 point contest in the regular season and this one should be no different. Irish roll 42-0. Perry Meridian @ Warren Central: Sort of feel bad for the Falcons as they used to be the 6A door mat. They have improved and are competitive most Friday nights as they have FIVE losses by one possession. But then they drew Warren on the road in the first round of sectionals. I think the Falcons make this one interesting early but fold after halftime. Not enough depth. WC wins 37-14. Westfield @ Carmel: This one REALLY intrigues me. These two used to play early in the season annually and now Westfield may actually be the big brother. Seems like two programs trending in opposite directions but I am willing to bet Carmel fights like hell on their home field. I view this as a "changing of the guard" type of contest for US 31. I've got Westfield making a deep run as they only had one blemish (although a big one) on their record in the regular season. Rocks win 24-20. What say you?

Close, but now quite. Contests against Hammond Morton, Brebeuf and Chatard are not quite at the level of the 6A schedules of most of the MIC/HCC schools but I see your point. They get a couple of layups (games in which they can play poorly or their JV would win) annually. Then again, Carmel/CG and the rest of the MIC 6 get NC and Pike which could be the equivalent.

What happened? Looked unstoppable against Franklin...

Same with Harrison and Plainfield...
