I can’t imagine a fully seeded semi state or regional as long as there is an all-in tournament. (Which isn’t going away.)

Imagine last year for example. Hey, Princeton, you were 1-8. So for your sectional game you will be on the road against Batesville (or Lawrenceburg).

I just can’t imagine a system than involves the coaches changing the format to seeding that doesn’t say to hell with coddling bad teams.  They are already voting so that they can get home field advantage if their team earns it.

the idea of worrying about drive times is only a concern amongst fans from my experience.  We talk until we are blue every year about 3 hour drives when every other state has games of like 6+ hours with no care at all for a team who had to have a winning record to get a playoff game….why would the ihsaa care about a 1-8 team going 2.5 hours to a top seeded team that is going to sell 5x as many tickets

With a field this deep (potentially), this might be one of the few Sectionals where not having seeding probably isn't a big deal, unless of course MV draws PCHS. Otherwise I expect all 2d games to be very competitive...

I think that assumes seeding sectionals…but from the things I’ve read over the last few years (only a handful) coaches seem to be pushing more for a fully seeded tournament/or at least semi state.

coaches want home field advantage.  Maybe I’m off base here but I think if we see seeding we are looking at doing away with sectional draws completely.  North or south and how you did will be all that matters.

I don't know enough to rank any teams at this point, but I have to think HH is the favorite as the defending 3A South rep returning some tremendous players. GS and SR are always tough. Memorial should be solid if the QB is back. MD will be improved. Don't know what VL has coming back, but they lose a very good QB. MV and PCHS can't love this at all.

If I understand the SF points correctly, if either HH gets back to LOS or EM wins a Regional, it would mean a bump up to 4A in 2025. And, as Titan32 previously said, GS could be 4A in the next reclassification. This could be a 1 or 2 year deal at most, so we fans better enjoy what will be a tough, tough sectional and some great HS atmospheres. I believe its the first time HH, GS, SR, MD and Memorial have all been in the same sectional.

    I agree with this.

however…let’s hope that by the next roll around that we have seeding lol.  All these teams are bound to face each other in the playoffs and there is no getting  around that.  Would just be better if it was later on for the big games.  Like GS vs HH last year as a semi state game.  Insert any 2 of these teams on their good years and we all want them to be for a championship game.

  4. West vigo would not go to 28.  They would go to 29 and 29 would move someone north…assuming logical choices by the ihsaa and minimal enrollment changes which includes west vigo.

I would guess that speedway/tri west would move to 28 to fill that void…and it’s probably speedway because Danville/triwest/ Webo/crawfordsville are already kinda a thing.

Imo…the biggest issue with 3A and it’s bracket is the region…specifically Lafayette.  There are a lot of big schools in the region and tons of tiny 2A/1A schools….some years WL is paired with Indy teams…some years they have to play Hanover/Calumet. It’s kind of a no man’s land for 3A.

The recipe, that nobody has yet been able to fulfill, is grind out 3 yard runs, stay in front of the chains, milk the clock and protect the ball. Mix in an occasional safe pass and hope to pop a big play in the running game or in the return game. Finally, try to keep your players fresh. I realize that it is a big ask but it is’t impossible.

Well…if there is any team who can and will do that…it’s Heritage Hills haha

that is exactly what their best teams do and it’s probably how most of their opponents would describe them.

The Purichia at Chatard is the younger brother of both Purichia's that played QB at Cardinal Ritter. I thought though one played at U of I and the other at Franklin for college. I will have to defer to @Cyoguru

Thank you! I knew the last name sounded familiar. Love the name Jett also!

I’m realizing after checking back that I was mistaken.  I had classes with another notable player from those Ritter teams that makes everything I’ve said irrelevant…except for that Purichia and those Ritter teams were pretty dang good.

Senior heavy.  Kinnett (RB), Guy (WR/S), Arteaga (QB), Feeney (LB/TE), Purichia (LB/RB), Keating (CB), Woods (OL/DL), Campbell (OL/DL).  I'm sure I'm missing some deserving names on here.  But lot of senior contributors.   Maybe 1-2 D1 commits.  Nobody that will wow the scouts, but a lot of solid players making a solid team.

Is Purichia related to the fella that played for Cardinal Ritter in like 2010-2012?

I went to Wabash with him and had a few classes.  Was a helluva player and I think had some state records for a bit.

I appreciate the words.  Everyone on this end understands the buzzsaw we are running into.....the speech has already been given to shut out all the media and frankly those in the community that see it as an impossible feat.  In 2019 the boys were being congratulated on a great season before the game in Indy was even played.  They were defeated mentally before they got there.  I'll steal one from the Gibson Southern playbook here...."IB".

It’s about time IB gets used correctly on here

With that, this is a pretty darn good Chatard team.  Although known for their defense, they scored 4 TDs - 28 pts on only 9 offensive plays v. Knox  and 35 pts on 14 offensive plays v. Knox prior to half time.

This reminds me of my first introduction to Chatard with my graduating class in 2012 lol.  Believe that meeting finished 56-6…every time Chatard touched the ball it was perfect execution and big gains.

You can't read between the lines of a one line comment. What I was saying is he played in 2008. If I wanted to say more I could have.

    ???

    This is cute

what made you feel like you had to restate the very obvious of what “and in 2008” meant? Now you want to be on the offense and say “I only meant that!!!!”

that comment got to ya didn’t it lol…

    ahahahahahahh 😂😂😂

  11. I’ll get this started.

    What I want:
    Heritage Hills 28 Chatard 24

What I think is more likely:
    Chatard 35 Heritage Hills 21

this is clearly one of the more special Chatard teams because it takes A LOT to go undefeated with their schedule….And Heritage Hills is pretty young.  If Jett can take over and establish himself as the best player on the field…I think there is a chance.

Yikes. Lighten up, Francis. No one mentioned Memorial until you did.

Zack Martin was a junior in 2007 and senior in 2008. His younger brother, Nick was a junior in 2009 and senior in 2010.

So to answer the ‘Martin’ years question, the answer is yes. Assuming you meant the older brother.

It’s a joke lol…and if you understood what he was saying you wouldn’t question it 😂  what do you think happened in 2008 to make a random memorial fan care about what years the Martin brothers played for Chatard?🤣😂🤣😂

Some history between these 2, some one score heartbreakers with just one win by HH and before this digresses into another "this football game carries the stench of Rome" thread, lets look at the history:

Heritage Hills 13-1 VS. Indianapolis Chatard 14-0

This is the 9th meeting between Heritage Hills and Chatard and the Trojans lead the series 7-1.

The first meeting between these 2 schools was in the 1997 Regional, The next 6 meetings were in the
South Semi State and this will be the 2nd meeting in the state finals.

Heritage Hills lone victory in the series came in 2004, The Trojans came into that game as a heavy favorite
and were the 3 time defending 3A state champs winning the title the previous 3 seasons. In that game Chatard
led 10-0 after the first quarter, Heritage Hills added a Jace Morrison field goal in the 2nd quarter and trailed
10-3 at halftime. The Patriots had a long clock killing drive in the 3rd quarter and tied it up with 2:29
remaining in the 3rd on a Bryce Pund 2-yard touchdown run. Neither team was able to muster much offense in
the 4th quarter before Jace Morrison kicked a 38-yard field goal with 8.3 sceonds left to seal the victory.

    Series
    1997 Indianapolis Chatard 24 Heritage Hills 21
    2001 Indianapolis Chatard 34 Heritage Hills 14
    2002 Indianapolis Chatard 35 Heritage Hills 28
    2003 Indy Chatard 24 Heritage Hills 3
    2004 Heritage Hills 13 Indianapolis Chatard 10
2005 Indianapolis Chatard 21 Heritage Hills 20 Overtime
    2007 Indianapolis Chatard 28 Heritage Hills 17
    2019 Indianapolis Chatard 34 Heritage Hills 3

Pretty sure there are some members on this forum that played on that 2004 HH team

2007…was that the Martin Chatard years?

2014, Semi state vs Tri-West.  Lost 14-6, TW won state that year.  Of 11 Semi-state games, we have only hosted 4.

Congrats to Gibson Southern on another great year.

I am proud of these Patriots.....they are young and very hungry.  On to Chatard....

It’s crazy to realize there are still 2 more years of Jett.

Great programs are always in contention, but there are still windows of opportunity that are just a little bit better. GS had a window from 2013-2015 with a super young class led by a sophomore QB.  Kinda feels like Heritage Hills has a similar window of 2023-2025 where they can have some really special teams

Hey, I never said anything about what makes a real football player!  Just highlighting the difference in field surfaces while, God forbid, talking a little trash.  Hey, anything to break up the love fest this thread was starting to turn into.  What a difference a couple of years make...

I for one would like to think that turf fields have helped out many parents, but especially mothers, when it comes to cleaning jerseys.

I think nothing beats a pristine grass field…but it’s a lot of work these days to keep the quality of the field into November with so many sports using a field.

I’ve got a better question…. Have you seen the weather forecast?  How are the Turf Titans going to handle getting mud on them immaculately clean golden and maroon uniforms???

I hate to be that guy…but I don’t even live in Indiana and know you didn’t check the weather either lol.

gotta love the blind confidence of repeating what others told you and the mentality of “you gotta play on grass and in mud to be a real football player”

Gotta see what wife No. 1 says. We are currently paying Harvard Kennedy a sizeable monthly payment for grad school, so what's another grad degree and some others in 18 years?

Yuck.  I’m sure that’s a hefty one…as well as the envelope they send asking for donations every year lol

Colleges made asking for a tip on everything cool before touch screen card readers existed
