Gotcha.  Just love how everyone either becomes a medical expert or conveniently has an expert friend in the medical field all of a sudden.

That’s social media for you.  I don’t think people are acting like experts when they are sharing the most likely and most known about cause.

anyone who has played baseball, lacrosse, hockey, football has noticed an AED on the sideline.  It’s there for this reason.  The training staff is trained for this exact situation.

the fact that Damar Hamlin is alive and in critical condition right now is because the staff at the nfl game were trained for this exact scenario and their training is what has kept Mr. Hamlin alive so far.

don’t need to be an expert at all to understand any of this, just have to be a sports fan/former player.

people using this event as a means to push a political agenda, or advance their social media status by grifting, are just disgusting.

    Any other possibilities?

Certainly but they are low probability and probably nothing to do with vaccines like some low IQ individuals on Twitter might think.

I think this is almost certainly the one you hear about in baseball/lacrosse with being hit in the chest very hard at just the wrong time.  Baseball catchers and lacrosse goalies have huge chest pads just for this reason and yet it’s still a risk even with the protection.

Coach, I seem to remember Purdue fans taking a victory lap last year when Brady Allen was secured. I guess sometimes 10 months is a lifetime ago.

As far as not having an issue with a coach making promo type videos….well,  that depends on the coach!!  😆

I’m surprised LSU didn’t go down in disaster.  Their whole coaching change was messy and BK didn’t exactly get off to the best start in terms of the public eye.

2 weeks into the season their top WR was threatening to leave the team and it looked like a mess for the locker room

Don’t let “some people” speak for the masses.  They just scream the loudest.

    Mike Tyson said it best…

”Social media made y’all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.”

Most of it is good….you see people wishing him the best and saying sorry things didn’t work out.

but yeah those bad apples stick out…especially those without situational awareness Or understanding of the college landscape in general.  Shoot half of them probably believe that all these kids are transferring because they are chasing money and they all have these big deals lined up

Purdue Head Coach is 37 years old, from all accounts, big selling point was how he will be able to relate with the 2023 college football landscape, this is no different then a teenager on Twitter with last name Brohm losing his mind with his "bat signals" every time Purdue got a verbal last 6 years.   I see no problems with the HC doing a short video promoting his team after snagging what many thought was the #1 QB in the portal.   OC is 36, the DC is 37, this is what new NIL/Portal College football looks like, sounds like, adapt or die they say.

We here in Indiana, have been rooting for the local (some more local for others) kid in Brady Allen, me one of them, Purdue was ALWAYS going to be going into this season even if Brohm was here looking for another QB, bottom line, Brady Allen was not anointed the starter for the upcoming season, article his dad gave pretty much outlined that and away they go, knowing that Hudson Card was going to come in and have 2 years left.

Any Boiler fan would be doing victory laps, if Hudson Card came to Purdue straight from HS, I want to say he was like top 50 player coming out, he wasn't going to beat out Ewers and like Temp mention, their is a certain new QB entering that room too.   From what I can gather, Harrell prefers a more dual threat and has more RPO in his system where as Brohm was more of a traditional pocket gunslinger (Brady Allen's skill set) system he calls.

    https://n.rivals.com/content/athletes/hudson-card-212787?view=pv

110 overall, 3rd best dual threat coming out if you get into the ole Rankings

There’s a lot of this I completely agree on…but my bias + what I know about Brady just makes it more irritating in some ways.

like Brady ran a spread RPO offense his entire Hs career.  that plus knowing rivals had him around 120/130 and on3 has him at 40 and the #4 QB of his class.

to me at least it’s more about the coach wanting someone with game experience to help attain early success…and with that, it’s just tough timing for a young QB.

Either way I wouldn’t chaulk this up as an upgrade or anything.  This is more of a wait and see thing….card probably does great for the boilermakers but it’s what happens when he leaves…will Purdue be at a point to keep the success rolling or will they be trying to find another portal QB with game experience because they don’t trust a young guy yet?

  6. I think the worst part about the transfer portal era isn’t even the transferring part

its seeing the fans reactions and seeing them attack high character kids for making a decision to leave.  A quick Twitter search of Mr. Allen shows a lot of support but also so many “don’t let the door hit you on the way out” “you’re a quitter” “kids these days don’t want to work for it”

it’s just effing stupid reading some of these comments.  The fans think they still own the kids playing the game for their entertainment…the players just try to do what’s best for their future…sometimes at the coaches suggestion….and it immediately turns into some person shaming them and attacking their character.

it’s just tough seeing a kid like Brady go from one of the most adored players in the state and beloved by everyone at Purdue….to seeing people immediately attack his character just weeks after praising him for doing charity work for Purdue or him just at practice next to Brees learning

Did Purdue not believe in Allen?  I don’t get it. The new Purdue coach is tweeting with a cat who ate the canary look because he landed the Texas QB…a person he’s never worked with….I thought a year ago, Allen was the future. What has happened??

The coaching carousel did its annual shebang

    Let’s see…Wisconsin fired Paul Chryst.

Luke Fickell left cincy to take the Wisconsin job

with Cincy now available, Scott Satterfield took that job and left Louisville.

which then left Jeff Brohm being asked to return to Louisville again where he accepted

which left Purdue without a coach, enter Walters and his staff

I read earlier that of the 2017-2019 classes (the first 3 classes in which the transfer portal existed) 70% of 4 and 5 star QBs have transferred at least once.  That’s just an insane number but it’s kinda how football is in todays world….at the nfl level, new coach usually means drafting or trading for a different QB.

    Yes.  What a loser mentality.

No win situation in Austin.  If Ewers struggles in the bowl game, the pressure to start Arch Manning will be immense the moment the kid steps foot on campus.

    Mmm idk

i think it’s nothing but a win for the longhorns

ewers was #1 in his class…moved up a class and was still #1

Murphy another 5 star guy I believe and top 10 for his class with Brady

and then you got Arch Manning??

it’s going to be bad for 1, maybe 2 of those guys…but for texas, it’s amazing.

I kinda compare it to Alabama a few years back/now

Jalen hurts initially….Tua comes in takes over…Mac Jones gets 1 year to prove it…does…then Bryce young follows

Mac Jones is the odd one out since he wasn’t a top recruit…but either way, the top programs in the country find ways to keep multiple high level QB prospects on their roster and always have a good QB room with depth.

Texas may have lost Card but they have good problem at QB imo

Spot on! Honestly, they could be sending a message to Allen that if you want the job you're going to face adversity and earn it in the Spring against some real competition. But, if they strikeout in the portal and/or a portal transfer doesn't produce, they're going to look foolish if Allen does end up transferring somewhere. On the flip side, maybe this is Allen's move to force Walters/Harrell into proving that their plan for an offensive scheme is good enough for Allen to stay.

You see Fleck is already accusing Fickell of negative recruiting against Minnesota? That could be a nice littler rivalry brewing in the West.

Well judging by the reports of the texas transfer I’m going to assume Allen isn’t staying now.  I have to imagine Allen was told the situation was fluid still and then recently the new coaches spoke with him and told him their plans and how it would work for him….and ultimately he needed to make choices.

Louisville is obviously a favorite since it was so publicized that Allen loves the Brohms.

Notre dame would be a fun one.  They need a QB because of the portal too….and I think Allen grew up a big Notre dame fan

Other places might be cincy/wake/Pitt…Washington because of coach Shepard?

Looks like Purdue is losing another to the transfer portal. I thought he’d be the starter next year, I swear to God I did.

Who knows, he might stay.  Not a guarantee that he leaves.  Sometimes a kid makes his feelings/options more announced and the coaches re-recruit that player.

maybe he leaves, maybe Coach Walters and company are like “wait a minute, let’s reevaluate the situation”

it’s definitely a situation where new coaches have options when it comes to the transfer portal….and the players themselves have the same options and can make it known

  11. This is just purely speculation on my part…but it’s possible that Allen stays at Purdue still.

last week the new coaches were quoted as saying “we want to land a high profile QB in the transfer portal”

well….now there is another high profile QB in the transfer portal…and oh look he already likes Purdue lol.

imo it was a stupid comment from the coaching staff and costly to say.  You have two 4 star recruits on the roster including Brady who was anywhere from 4th to 9th in his class at his position…and the new coaches are talking about chasing guys in the portal while Brian brohm and Hagen are running practices but leaving after the bowl game.

just really a poor transition to me

Yet it is, just the same.  What specific classes does a "Director of sports performance" teach?  The word "Director" seems to indicate a primarily administrative position,  something that has exploded in primary schools, secondary schools, and college/universities over the last couple of decades.  Too many non-teaching, administrative positions and not enough, you know, teachers.

Indiana could elect to put more money into education and pay teachers more….but sure rage against people taking better opportunities to provide for their families under the umbrella of government spending.

Don't forget his daughter coaches girls basketball at Jasper.

Well that’s an update haha.  Last I knew of, she was an assistant at Bedford NL.

I wonder if Mrs Hart ever realized she would raise 3 HS coaches on top of being married to one when she first met Coach John Hart haha

shoot…she could probably coach a football team better than most of us on here 😂

  14. I like Coach Walters already.

today was his first day in WL….and one of the first things he did was get Mockobee on scholarship.

it’s about damn time!  Kid should have been on scholarship to begin with, but even So I didn’t understand why the Brohms didn’t extend the offer after he broke out a few months ago

This. Same with Orgeron. I would hire him every day to coach my DL and recruit, but I dont want him as the CEO of the program. I do wonder if Leonard's celing is DC and there's nothing wrong with that if it is his celing.

It might not be his ceiling but I think one of the best characteristics about Jim Leonard is that he is humble and has patience.  He turned down an opening as the DC for the packers in 2020 /2021.  He’s also had multiple opportunities to leave Wisconsin and chose to stay every time because he said he wasn’t ready and he loved where he was at.

the man knows his limits and is okay taking more time to climb the ladder…and I think that’s a great thing in an era where a young hip new coach is the big trend.

The Packers should fire Joe Barry--their defense has become a dumpster fire.  The word on the street in Northern Indiana and Illinois is Jim Leonhard may be hired as Purdue's coach.  Interesting move.  I never wanted Urban Meyer, just being facetious with that one...

oh I want Barry gone so bad.  And then to hire Leonard haha.

Leonard would be an okay hire imo

Brian Hartline is the real target. Should do everything to land him.  He’s shown he is one of the absolute best recruiters in the nation, especially at WR.  Ohio state has been landing top 5 WRs every year since he started recruiting.

Purdue is in a position where they have shown they are ready for the next step and can play big time games…it’s a more desirable job too being in the B1G. Imo they should be targeting the best candidates.

I love Jim Leonard but he is the Wade Phillips of college…which in Phillips own words was “I’m an okay head coach….but i can coach the hell out of defense”

  17. 7 hours ago, Gipper said:

Surprise, surprise--he's flying the coop.  Although this isn't what I really wanted, it good turn out to be for the best in time and I'm glad this saga didn't last long.  Hopefully, Bobinski has been doing some due diligence about a new hire.  Since Urban Meyer is a pipe dream at best, I'd like to see an offensive guy brought in like Bill O'Brien...or maybe someone completely different like (cue the suspense music) like Jim Leonhard!!!

The packers will fire Joe Barry and hire Jim Leonard.  Leonard is in line to go to the nfl as a DC not so much a HC….and the people of Wisconsin like myself have been begging for Leonard to be the packers DC for years

also I hope Purdue stays as far away from Urban as possible.  The man continually has shown he will sacrifice anything to win and he will overlook a lot of things to keep winning.

So you say CG would have won state without Coyle and my statement is false. Also, if I had a vote I would have voted for Hansen.

All I’m saying is that for 3 years CG has won state and for 3 years I’ve read in the weeks after “we wouldn’t have won state without so and so and this is why they should win ____ award”

like….CG is a phenomenal program…you could be here next year saying the same thing with a 4 peat….it’s not a one man show…it’s a powerhouse

it’s just funny to me that it’s 3 years straight of the exact same thing.  Not a bad thing, just funny to me
