Show me one place where I said the regular season has a major connotation. The regular season means jack crap!!! Ask any player, would they rather have a great regular season and do nothing in the playoffs or vice versa. I promise you it is all about the playoffs. Doesn’t matter the sport, you will get the same response. Nobody remembers who won a conference title, but they do remember a sectional title, every school, every time. Regional title, semi-state title, and state title the legend just grows with each step. I remember my high school career well, many years ago, but my memory is better when it comes to playoff time and with each title they I was a part of.

Look, FootballKing cares in no way what anyone says to refute what he is saying. In his mind, nothing that is said means anything to him that is against his opinion. Period. Doesn’t mean he is right or that I or anyone else agrees with him, he just wants to be right. Fine, live your dream. I will live in reality, which is 100% different than what you are saying. Your scenario will not happen anytime soon. The sport is about the kids who play the game, not you, not me, hell, not even the fans. Guess what? Thousands upon thousands of fans will go to the games and support their teams and the product that is offered.

The real key to the game is Penn’s offense vs Carroll’s defense. For Penn to win this game, I think they will have to score at least 24 points.
-
Uh right, using your theory where bad teams shouldn’t even have the chance to make the postseason you have yet again been proven wrong. That is your whole argument. Neither Villanova or NC State would have qualified for the Big Dance without winning a conference tournament they everyone automatically qualified for regardless of their record. Make another bogus argument… Stop using logic, the almighty FootballKing does not understand it

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament let’s everyone in postseason play and is widely regarded as the best tournament in all of sports,March Madness!!! There have been countless upsets every year by teams that have stunk it up during the regular season only to make great runs in their conference tournament and even win a national title. Villanova and North Carolina State easily come to mind to start and every year there are other teams that make this tournament great. And yes, had not Villanova and NC State not won their conference tourney they would NOT made the field… Carry on

It will be a very good matchup.

Let’s be honest here, there are so many teams that before the year starts, have no chance to do anything at all in the regular season, much less the playoffs. The list is enormous. Does that mean that the school just should not play football at all? Prairie Heights, Fremont, South Side, Northrop, and countless other schools are in this boat. With open enrollment in many areas and kids openly being recruited, this isn’t changing. Let the kids dream a bit, even if it’s just 1 week and results in a 56-0 pasting. Look at college football, realistically there are 8-10 teams a year, usually the same ones every year, that have a chance for the playoff. Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, you can almost pencil in before it starts, and sometimes an up start and that’s it. Does that make the rest of the season irrelevant and not fun? No. It does make it very predictable and boring though. Same in high school football, especially in 6A, Indy dominates because of numbers.
-
Nice job of skewing his numbers. It clearly states from 1985-1999, not from 1985 to today. Big difference. Look, I am a huge proponent of not playing crappy teams, hence read my posts about Snider wasting a few games a year playing South Side, Wayne, Northrop, etc… I am excited that SAC teams are getting a couple games a year during the regular season to play competitive teams starting in 2023. Let South Side play someone they actually have a chance to compete with. Let the big boys play teams that are going to get them ready for the playoffs.

Go read the topic started by Stoner which clearly shows that 31 sectional champions in 15 years were ranked outside the top 32 that would not have qualified using sagarin ratings. This includes Luers who were state runners up. Is reading comprehension a problem for you? Not sure what you are arguing about… The stats are right in front of you
-
Penn is not the old Penn, this coming straight from Penn fans. I have heard more than a few fans grumbling about coaching, you had a good one in Geesman for sure. Still a fan in how hard Penn plays though
-
Maybe you ought to go look at another thread started by someone where they did the research and showed at least 15-20 sectional champions that wouldn’t have qualified via Sagarin, and additionally multiple teams that went further into the playoffs that wouldn’t have qualified even state champions… this list includes Luers…
-
Agree with you on Snider this year. I will take it a step further, it will either be Snider or North Side winning this sectional, period. Calling my shot now, Dwenger will not win this sectional this year and neither will Anderson. Book it
-
I am a little shocked that Snider signed a 4 year deal with East Noble…
-
Ok then, I am sure they appreciated you sitting in the end zone. Of course, I would not expect logic to invalidate your statements… Believe whatever you want, doesn’t matter to me, but don’t state your opinion as fact
-
Go back a couple years ago to Luers in 2020. 3-6 regular season, bad losses to Concordia and pretty much every other team in the SAC including a bad North Side squad, struggled with Northrop and Wayne, they were bad yet come playoff time they went to the state title game and lost to Western Boone 36-35 in a game that Luers absolutely gave away. They weren’t anywhere close to the top 15 based on any computer or sagarin rating. Not hard to do the research…
-
I respect your opinion and I have always had great respect for the Penn program. May the best team win and stay healthy!!!
-
I guess when Snider played New Palestine in the state title game a few years ago people were saying Snider should stay home as they would be blown out I am sure you were one of them… By the way, Snider beat New Pal in of the great state title games in Indiana history… Thanks for your concern though
-
You watched the Snider/Dwenger game and reached this conclusion? Without the 2 turnovers by Snider in the 1st half, the final score is 42-0. Dwenger had less then 200 yards offense, couldn’t throw the ball at all, and got dominated on the line of scrimmage. You better hope for a rainstorm of epic proportions and a final score of 2-0…
-
Yeah, so do I
-
I will always refer to Luers in this argument. I remember a few 3-6 and even 2-7 teams that either won a state title or made a good run in the tournament. Please save the “they were a top 15” sagarin or whatever formula you want to use argument. They weren’t. They lost games to lower tier SAC teams at the time for whatever reason, whether it was due to injury, suspension, whatever the case was, and won titles. Now, I am not saying they were a Frankfort, Southridge, or whatever lower tier team you want, but strength of schedule means jack crap with a 3-6 record. Likewise, I have seen countless 9-0 or 10-0 teams that played a 6-4 Dwenger, Luers, or Snider and get absolutely shellacked in a regional or sectional game. Lastly, you as a consumer have a choice, if you don’t like it, don’t support it and don’t go…
