Stories Heading Into 2026
23andCounting replied to BDGiant93's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I've been to Penn several times. It's never taken me longer than two hours to get there during rush hour on a Friday evening. I wasn't thinking Snider/Penn in terms of the Kingsmen joining the conference, more of a non-conference game. -

It would be a crime for the Snider/Penn rivalry not to resume. Would be good to have Penn Nation on the Snider campus for the first time. -
Future of the SAC

I'm personally hit or miss on the idea. What the SAC has now gives the better programs a pretty good combination of stiff competition and tune-up games. The South Side's and the Lues of the conference take their fair of bruises, but both those program show out come playoff time. The Archers don't make deep runs, but they give some teams with good records a run for their money. On the flip side, the MIC and the HCC are showing that playing good teams every week is a better model for winning state championships at the 6A level. At the end of the day, I think I like the idea of Carroll, Dwenger, Homestead, Northrop, and Snider joining forces with some schools more their size. Those schools shouldn't be playing anyone outside of 6A/5A not named New Pal, Roncalli, Chatard, or maybe even East Noble. For teams like Concordia, Luers, North Side, South Side, and Wayne, Blitz makes a good point with "better records, better fan attendance, and better player turnout." -
Thought maybe this could use a thread of it's own. https://outsidethehuddle.net/2026/04/22/blitz-the-future-of-the-sac-in-its-current-form-could-be-in-doubt-at-least-for-football/ Lot's of good information from this website for anyone who keeps tabs on NE Indiana High School Sports.

Will anyone be able to win at Butler again in this new landscape of college sports? Probably not.

Opening with Adams Central helps. A good way for Luers to start their season. -

Yes, I would imagine that if they could get past Sectional 3, then they would be the favorite. Tall task though with Carmel, Westfield, and Hamilton Southeastern. I'm sure Carroll will be their usual good, not sure they'll be THAT good though. -

How many starters to they return. Dwenger's won 8 of the last 10 meetings vs the Knights. So maybe the answer to your question is a 20% chance? -

No idea. Posters from Central Indiana just enjoy hearing about which team up north will give them a run for their money. So I threw Carroll out there. Taking nothing away from Crown Point or Penn. It's probably a crap shoot between those three. -

Westfield couldn't ask for a better Week 1 opponent. They're playing a hard nose team that'll punch them back, but also a team Westfield should take out by three touchdowns. A good tune-up game before they get into the meat of their schedule. Homestead has a good football program, but the Rocks are a well oiled machine right now. -

Northeast Indiana: 1. Snider's new stadium on their own campus. 2. Carroll's potential to give 6A south a run for their money (in my defense, you asked what would be talked about) 3. Massive games to start the season with Dwenger/Roncalli, Luers/Adams Central, and Carroll/HSE. 4. South Side potentially on the rise after years of sitting at the bottom. -
State championships come too easy at the 2a level. You probably don't recall, but before the success factor came into play, I was a strong proponent of Luers bumping to 3a on their own accord. I came in hot and heavy on that topic and Luers faithful couldn't stand me for it. I've been a big fan of them to win their first 3a title. Still waiting.

It's not an issue since it's happened in the past? Not sure I follow that line of thought. I think it needs corrected. I get it that the team in question in Luers and no one will feel sorry for them. But would the same amount of posters come on here and defend the IHSAA if it were a small team in the country? I try to advocate for all without discrimination. I'm more likely to to bring these things to attention when it affects NE Indiana since that's the area I follow the most.

Not sure what one has to do with the other. If you ask the best programs in the state what their primary goal is, the answer is to "win state." Not "win the conference." The SAC prepares the Knights for their ultimate goal. Conference championships are fun, but the real hardware is given out on Thanksgiving weekend.

I'm not saying the answer is to sit around and sulk about it. I can't imagine any coach doing that. But as a fan, I can advocate for a change in the rule. I have a hard stance on this one and would defend any program regardless of where they were located. I was about to get on here and defend Merrillville as well, but without giving it much research, I'm presuming they bumped to 6A due to enrollment, not success factor points. I appreciate your well thought out response. Your opinion is respected.

Look, when 4A punches, the Knights will punch back. I'm not talking from a coaches perspective. They're not allowed to come on here and post the way I do. Just an observation from a fan's perspective. I've been waiting years to see Luers win the 3A title. Lol, now they have to do in 4A instead. *Scratches my temples and shakes my head as I log off*
