In 50% of our 6 classes (Classes 1A-6A), there is a game being played the first round that might well have been a game that should have been played in LOS on Thanksgiving weekend per Sagarin (and I’m tired of hearing all of the bonehead b!tching about Sagarin....as if some polled Sportswriter or Coach in Angola knows ANYTHING about the relative strength of a team in Evansville or vice versa.....give me a break).

    6A: Sagarin #1 Avon v. Sagarin #2  Brownsburg

    3A: Sagarin #1 Chatard v. Sagarin #3 Brebeuf

2A: Sagarin #1 Lewis Cass v. Sagarin No. 2 Pioneer

Rather than football fans being able to enjoy the ability to see these games live, they will as likely as not be watching some 2-7 teams pound away at each other.....with one of them actually living to play another day.  While 50% of those 6 teams cited above Seniors will be turning in their gear having played their last game ever.

Teams and kids that have spent years honing their skills to play at the highest levels in their class denied the chance to play in a high profile and electric  Sectional, Regional, Semi-State or even State Championship game.

But we would rather let ping pong balls decide....because “it’s the only fair way”.

Its flatly wrong and we all know it.

And don’t give me this crap about “Football Gods”, “Sh!t Happens”, etc., etc.

This situation exists because WE allow it to.....not some fictional Football God.  We are just too damn lazy and indifferent to do anything about it.

If we really are honest to God fans of the game why do we tolerate this?

    Amen!

Seems to be the case (as both Cathedral and West Lafayette learned a couple of years back) but the Brebeuf/Culver game every year baffles me as to how close it ends up (or even when Culver won) when Brebeuf should be a huge favorite.  Last week’s Brebeuf/Terre Haute score made me scratch my head a bit also.

My friends that attended Creighton would spend hours explaining to me that Catholic and Jesuit aren't the same thing. LOL

The Chatard scores would indicate that Cathedral is the favorite.  Based on past history though, Brebeuf week 1 and week 8 are completely different teams.  Coach Roessler's teams get better as the season wears on.

Without question - Brebeuf has always trended up as the season progresses. They are more than ready come playoff time and usually trending in the right direction.

Played a school from Ill. correct??  Was the school they played a highly ranked team from there???  I saw Chatard beat the biscuit out of them!!

My understanding is that they were maybe ranked 7ish in class 6 (out of 8 classes). Not sure how that equates to Indiana's classes. Tough game for them after driving like 3 hours.

I am wondering in 3A why last week Chatard and WL were tied at the top of the polls, and this week WL is dropped a spot to #2??  I mean WL beat #1 in 2A and gets penalized for by a few voters??!!

I can not speak for the voters, but it may not have anything to do with WL and more to do with Chatard's win this past weekend. I am not saying Chatard is better, rather just offering an opinion to your question

To be clear Southport is really unknown with its matchup with chatard. Chatard fans here on the board even have said after the game they don’t know what to think about it because Southport was without their QB and DT due to injury and there were 2 other players on defense who missed that game due to being ejected during the GS game.

for all we know, Heritage Hills may be the top 3A team and Chatard had a looks good on paper game. Chatard probably would have won against Southport either way, especially considering how they played cathedral, but I wouldn’t draw any real conclusions about the Chatard vs Southport game. Chatard fans themselves are not too sure what to make of that game.

I would say that you are correct about putting too much on the Chatard vs. Southport game. However, the rest of the season suggests Chatard is playing as good as anyone in 3A. It would be a tough argument to suggest otherwise, but that's why we have this forum - to hash it all out before the playoffs!

Well if you like Bosse in Sectional 32, I have some ocean front property in Spencer county that I'd sell you!!!  Oh and I also have pictures of Sasquatch from my trail cameras I'd be willing to part with too.

32 is gonna be a good sectional. Lots of good teams with

I expect GS to be huge in sectional.  The Southport game....I wouldn't have put too much stock in that either way.  Chatard beat them like a red headed stepchild.

Sectional 32 will be brutal all around.  Whoever comes out will likely meet the winner of 28 at LOS.

Could not agree more. Only Marian in sectional 26 is one team that I am not overly familiar with, but they appear to be having a great season. Even with that said, the odds are overwhelming that 28 meets 32 at LOS

We sure about that? Jeff is 3rd in 6A, Cathedral 3rd in 5A... Jeff has elite talent in just about every position group.

I believe WL and Chatard are interchangeable - either could be 1 or 2 at this time. As the season progresses, we will get more of a feel, but ultimately we will find out in sectionals. Fun to talk about now though isn't it?

  10. This might start something, but at the half way point it would seem that the winner of Sectional 28 will win state. I know, I know. There are a lot of talented teams in sectional 32, but absent of some type of injury or weather or something else extraordinary, I think it comes down to sectional 28 and, more specifically, Chatard or W. Lafayette (who has been fairly quiet on GID this year).

Key 3A games this week will provide more info (Guerin, Brebeuf, GS, HH, others)

One more day til the next Friday night :)

I am going to have to disagree with this.... I do not think they were the better team. Regardless of which team has more talent, these rivalry games will always be close. The game should have been worse considering we have 3 trips to 7 yards or closer that we failed and only got 3 points out of it. Props to chatard for playing hard and giving cathedral a great game. As far as the LOS their DOL was better that night than our OOL but our DOL was better than their OOL. It went both ways. Chatard threw the ball on Cathedral all night which surprised me considering they have a great secondary. Chatard QB and WR are both pretty good. I do not see anyone beating Chatard in 3A.

So much to say, but so little that matters.

    Irish won.

Chatard OL is very good as I do not believe they have given up a sack all year, including that night. Now, some of that is due to scheme and a mobile qb, but the OL is doing a fantastic job.

Chatard and you will be tough outs. Lots of other quality teams (i.e. New Pal who I think will win 5A, and quite easily, W. Lafayette, GS, Braves, Guerin, Heritage Hills, etc) will have a lot to say about that, and rightfully so.

Tough to buy into your "game should have been worse" comment. Your examples of red zone plays are fine, but a fumble and blown coverage plays could swing the argument the other way toward a Chatard win, but, again, it does not really matter. Irish won.

Anyway, I still like the "pound for pound" conversation though :classic_laugh:

People said that about Chatard in 2004. Four D1 recruits. Dray Mason breaks his collarbone early in the game and they lose to HH by a field goal. We are talking about 15-19 year olds ... anything can happen. (No, I don't wish injury on anyone. I want to see the Sectional 32 champion beat Chatard at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Agree with it all except for I want sectional 28 champ (hopefully chatard) to beat the sectional 32 champ....Mish Marian is lurking as well:)

Southridge is interesting as they now sit at 5-0, but most of the pub has gone to GS and HH who play this weekend. Chances are the two LOS teams in 3A will be Sectional 28 vs. Sectional 32. You never know though as other teams certainly will have their say (i.e. Marian, Knox, Edgewood, etc.).

  15. Chatard. Guerin is well coached and this always seems to be a close game because of that, but I think Chatard will have too much this year. I certainly hope for a good and safe game, but this one goes to the Trojans.

Brebeuf. Always trends higher as the season goes on and I am just not sure what is going on at Roncalli except that they are young ( I think) and trying to find their way. They will play hard, but I think they come up short vs. the Braves.

Don't have anything on the HC/CC game. Probably not relevant in the CCC, sooooo...
