Thanks for your input. You're right, I thought this was Hammond Central's first year, but after rereading the article, that's slated for fall of 2021. I'll fix on my website. Also, I didn't post this in that thread as it's not a discussion of why games are getting canceled, just simply a list of canceled games and newly scheduled games. Well, I'm kind of bummed about the cancellation of the 2020 all-star game, but it reminded me of something I came across in my research. As we know, the IFCA All-Star game started in the late 1960s, but did you know there were two all-star games also played in the 1950s? Organized by the American Legion, they were both played at Butler Bowl, and proceeds went to the Legion's nurses training program. Date Score 8/8/53: North 19, South 0 8/21/54: West 41, East 21 Coaches Coaches for the 1953 game were Evansville College's Don Ping for the South, with Wabash College's Garland Frazier in charge of the North. In 1954, Frazer returned to lead the East while Evansville College's new coach, Paul Beck, coached the West. It looks like low attendance caused the series' demise. Dan

Just curious for statistical purposes, will this be a continuation of the athletic teams of Elkhart Central or is it the start of a completely new program?

I LOVE the idea of 6A teams playing a 10th regular season game IF they want. However, from a logistical standpoint, who would referee those games? Most officials will be working the first round of the tournament that week. Either you'd have to do up to 16 Class 6A games on Thursday or Saturday (letting you use tournament officials) or you're using referees who didn't qualify for the postseason. Maybe there's enough veteran referees who choose not to work postseason to accommodate, but not likely. Just my $0.02 Dan "Rudy" Engler

The biggest drawbacks with the cluster was that it could have brought an end to many traditional conferences, and only one team qualified per cluster. Poor Elkhart Central was a perfect example. They finished 9-1 both years of the cluster, but because their one loss was to the cluster champion, Penn, Elkhart did not qualify. Was it settled on the field? Yes. But did Elkhart deserve a shot at the postseason? Most definitely. Even if more teams qualify from each cluster, scheduling challenges would end most conferences. Happened in KY, TN and about to happen in IL.
