Bloomington South 6 Martinsville 0 (9:01, 1st) South's run defense was atrocious last week, so we will see how things go tonight. QB D J Bull with a 61 yd TD pass.
-
Bloomington North 14 Bedford NL 0 (6:45, 1st)
-
New Albany 47 Bloomington South 35 (final) Bulldogs had 440 rushing yards tonight which pretty much tells the story of how this game went for South. A very disappointing debut for Coach Gabe Johnson, but there is still a lot of football to be played (I hope.)
-
New Albany 47 Bloomington South 35 (4:04, 4th) Maddix Blackwell with his 3rd TD reception tonight to score for South, but they are running out of time and can't stop the run so far.
-
New Albany 47 Bloomington South 28 (6:18, 4th) Both teams just traded TDs. NA is nearing 400 yards rushing so far to give you some idea of how poorly South has played in stopping the run.
-
New Albany 40 Bloomington South 21 (9:49, 4th) NA scores again with a 23 yard TD run, as South is getting dominated on the ground in the second half. It looks like their run defense has a lot of work to be done. This game is essentially over with. There is no doubt that new South coach Gabe Johnson has to be disappointed in this game

New Albany 33 Bloomington South 20 (4:36, 3rd) Neither team is playing much "D" in the the 3rd as NA responds to South's last score with a quick 37 yard TD run which was set up by poor tackling by South. There have been four TDs by the teams in the last 4:30 of the 3rd.
-
New Albany 26 Bloomington South 20 (5:39, 3rd) South responded quickly to NA's last Td with a pass to Maddix Blackwell in the flat, who then scampered 55 yards for the score.
-
New Albany 26 Bloomington South 14 (8:51, 3rd) NA has two TDs in the 3rd with one coming on a botched kick that gave the Bulldogs great field position at the South 29. The other came on a simple pass play that resulted in a 33 yard TD scamper by the receiver.

Bloomington South 14 New Albany 13 (half)

At the opposite end of this, not to mention the opposite end of the state, Bloomington South just hosted an 18-team girls golf tournament that had 95 golfers involved. Evansville North was the top team with Carmel coming in second. It was the first IHSAA competition in around four and a half months.

Roncalli dropping Rebels nickname

It's only a matter of time before the movie Rebel Without a Cause, with Fairmount, Ind's own James Dean, gets banned. -
If you are looking strictly at a school that will probably be successful in just about any sport whether its boys or girls, it would be Carmel. With a pool of around 5,000 students, they are usually a factor for state championships regardless of the sport.

Bloomington South to name new head coach....
ptr replied to ptr's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Continuity with a program is almost always a good thing, so I applaud the elevation of Coach Johnson. -
I don't know, but New Pal is on another level than any other team in the state. They would win the 6A title. You have a public school with less than 1,200 students based on the current enrollment numbers, and they would dominate Carmel with an enrollment approaching 10,000 (an obvious exaggeration.) Congrats to them for a dominate game.

Conference Indiana Semi-State Game.

New Pal - This team would probably be the favorite if there was a contest between the winner of 6A and them. Here's hoping South plays a competitive game against them. However, my feeling is that James Bomba, Jordan Meeks, and Jalen Peck will be scrimmaging with the basketball team on Saturday. There may be some other football players that will transition over that I'm not mentioning. -
I don't think they have come out with the preseason polls yet, but South, as well as some other teams, opens their season on Nov 26. The South/Culver game should be pretty good with each team having an IU recruit. That game at Southport is part of a one-day tournament involving several pretty good teams that have high profile recruits and recruiting prospects.

IMO, in order for South to win this game, they will need to play a mistake-free game, while getting some key turnovers and timely penalties against New Pal. New Pal is clearly on a different level from other 5A teams this season, and it will take a game like that. Having said that, with the exception of South's game against TH South, South has had a propensity to commit big penalties this season, especially of the 15-yard variety, and they will need to clean that up. They did do that in the 2nd half of the FC game. If they can get Maveric Thiery going and control the clock on the ground, they might have a punchers' chance in this game. Going on the road doesn't help much either, although I think that home field advantage in the sport of football may be a bit overrated.
