Not a lot of local flavor making it to the regional rounds this season but here are the matchups none-the-less.

5A #1 Snider (10-1) @ #4 Mishawaka (10-1): Battle between 2 teams that have occupied the top spot in 5A at some point this season. Snider comes in with a lot of momentum taking care of business against a real good North team. Mishawaka did what they were suppose to do in a pretty weak sectional. Gotta give Snider the love in this one as their SOS and resume' FAR exceeds that of the Cavemen.

4A Northridge (8-4) @ #6 New Prairie (11-1): Rematch of lasts years semi-state battle. Another crazy story line brewing in Middlebury as the Raiders take down an undefeated 2 years in a row. Where-as NP has DOMINATED in their march to a sectional title that many thought would be closer. Does Northridge have what it takes to get by a red hot Cougar squad with revenge on their minds? Lots of story lines coming out of this one and I honestly have no idea what to expect. But after seeing the way NP has handled it's last 4 opponents it's tough to bet against the Cougars at this point....But their appears to be some magic left in those Raiders...

3A #1 West Lafayette (12-0) @ Knox (9-3): Radtke gets a sectional title at a 5th different school, but his prize is a red devil juggernaut coming to Community Field. Knox has put together a solid campaign in 2022; the kind that was expected when Russ took over 3 years ago. But I cannot see the Redskins getting past this one. WL has been one of the best mid-sized publics the last 15 years.

1A #4 North Judson (11-1) @ Park Tudor (9-3): NJ is darn close to being 12-0 in a TOUGH HNAC. Park Tudor comes in with an offense that can put points on the board but also gives up a ton on the other side of the ball. The Blue Jays shouldn't have a problem with the Panthers as they rolled through their sectional to get to this point. NJ should score on about every possession one would think.

Snider vs Mishawaka- Gotta think Snider takes care of business in this one. Great season by Mishawaka but believe snider is the better team. Snider by 14.

Northridge at New Prairie- northridge seems to be a team their best football in the playoffs recently. NP has been absolutely unstoppable the last 4 weeks. The loss last year to the raiders has not sat well with the Cougars. NP by 17

dont know much if anything about the the other games but I’ll take west Lafayette and North Judson

  2. Andrean @ Bremen- unfortunately I think the lions will have way more than they can handle in this one. Andrean by 28

Knox @ Jimtown- the Jimmies have had a great season and Knox has seemed to buy into Radtke’s philosophy. I hate picking against the NIC but I think Knox takes this one by 7

New Prairie@ Hobart- NP losing to Penn has turned out to be a blessing. Since that game the Cougars have been on a terror and have imposed their will on others. Hobart is a solid team with a very good Running back and QB. I believe NP comes out and continues to step on the gas and tick this one by 14

I watched Andrean play Norwell and to be honest they didn’t play physical besides the beast Bowen. Norwell ran power trap play after play and ran it all over Andrean. Not saying will happen again but they definitely aren’t the team from last year at all. Norwell just beat CMA 27-14 which Judson blew out CMA, but that’s why we play the games. I think Laville is more physical teams and pulls out 3-5 point victory

Andrean has not played Norwell. The 59ers get their QB back this week that they lost early in the season.

Week 2 of the playoffs for the remaining NLC teams.  Wawasee and Plymouth are out as was expected.  There are some good match ups this week:

Elkhart V. Warsaw:  This could be a great game, I know the expectations were high for both teams and both teams have looked really good at times this year...and on the other side, there has been some head scratching at other times.  I thought Elkhart was going to contend in the beggining of the year, however, after last week at New Prairie, I now think differently.  Elkhart did not do a good job of stopping NP's run game so I will take Warasaw at home in this game. Warsaw by 10

Concord V. Goshen:  Not a whole lot to say here as it will be a repeat of their meeting earlier this week.  Concord by 21

Adams V. Mishawaka:  A very lopsided game, Mishawaka will win big.  Mishawaka by 35

Logansport V. Northridge:  Knowing the type of offense Logansport runs, I give Northridge the edge in this game.  If they can play like they did against Mishawaka, it will be an easy win.  I dont know alot about Logansport, other than they run a similar offense to Mishawaka and Warsaw.  In looking at their schedule, other than the two games they lost...it isnt that great.  Ill give the edge to the home team in this game.  Northridge by 14

NorthWood V. St. Joe:  Will all things said that I will keep quite about, I still think NorthWood wins this game easily.  St. Joe who is typically a playoff rival with NW in the past, just isnt having a great year.  I will take NW by 28.

*Side Note*  At the Washington / NorthWood game last week, I was really saddend to see the lack of support for the Washington team.  Is this normal for the South Bend schools?  I think I counted 56 people in their stands (stands designed to hold thousands)...including 4 officers eating popcorn.  I feel for the kids whom dont get alot of support and was really excited to see their enthusiasm when they scored.  Its sad to see senior last game end with a score like that.

So I’m guessing the rumor I heard about NorthWood is true

Carroll (9-0) at Penn (7-2), 7:30 pm very intriguing game, I don’t see either team blowing the other one out. I’ll take Penn by 6
Elkhart (7-2) at Warsaw (7-2), 7 pm Elkhart struggled mightily against NPs rushing attack which obviously Warsaw does best. Tigers by 7
Adams (1-8) at Mishawaka (8-1), 7 pm caveman by 35
New Prairie (9-1) at Lowell (7-3), 8 pm  NP won regular season game. NP seems to be finally putting everything together at the right time and I don’t see this one going any different than the first game. Cougars by 21
NorthWood (10-) at St. Joseph (4-6), 7 pm  Northwood breezes through another game by 35
Jimtown (8-2) at Glenn (6-4), 7 pm  Jimtown won regular season game. Same result as the first time. Jimmies by 19
Bremen (6-4) at Lake Station (4-6), 7:30 pm don’t know anything about lake station but I’ll take the Lions by 14

The two 6A games should be great games.  A couple of rematches.  Another interesting week

Bremen at Clay ©, 7 pm no need to say anything on this one
Elkhart at New Prairie ©, 7:30 pm something tells me NP will take this one. I’m hoping they learned a few things from the Penn game. Cougars by 7
Penn at Adams ©, 7 pm Penn rolls big
Riley at Jimtown ©, 7 pm I’ll take Riley. Young team that seems to be getting better. Riley by 7
St. Joseph at Marian ©, 7 pm this ones a toss up for me, wouldntybe surprised to see either of them win. I’ll take the home team by 6
Washington at Glenn ©, 7 pm Glenn

The Holy war 2022- having seen every game since 1967 I do not recall when both teams came into the game with a losing record.  Each team is 2-6.  Could be the makings of a fun game.

Having seen both NP and Penn they both have weapons.  I think Penn hits harder on defense especially a couple of their linebackers.  I could see this game going either way.  Penn may have more offensive weapons

NP has quite a few weapons on offense, it’s whether or not they choose to utilize them. One of my biggest criticisms of this team is that a lot of times they are fine with just using 1 or 2 guys when they have multiple others that are just as effective if not better in some situations.

What impressed you about Riley? And from that what makes you think they will be a force next year? It seems there tends to be teams who come and go and start to get some excitement behind them in SB, all for the same old stuff to happen and they end up just as bad as all others. As it looks right now, Riley is only SB team period that even looks like they are playing organized football. Would be nice if the city had at least one team that can actually compete in games.

They are a young team that I assume will only get better. They have some great athletes, and a sophomore QB that can really sling the ball. I think if they would have more of an intermediate passing game instead of going for the deep ball all the time they could have a lethal offense. They had good size and speed and pretty good numbers.

Here are the games for week 8.  The big one is Penn at New Prairie.  Jimtown at Adams could be an interesting match-up
