I don't 100% disagree with you on this statement but it all depends on what the coaches learned about that game.  Frankton went something like 1-13 with an interception the first half of that game and then ran the ball with ease the second half.  Elwood ran their big fullback with success but then freaked out and put the ball in the air their last possession and blew any chance of a final drive for the win.

I think if we see a rematch and Frankton leans on Finley, Harrison, and Everitt with a run gameplan, the Eagles win by 14+  If they try to air it out again, they lose.

I absolutely agree it comes down to coaching. That is why i feel like Elwood has a slightly better chance. I do agree Frankton has the better talent!

  2. Wow after this last weekend where to go with this?

Mississinewa wins big. Alexandria does not have the speed or skill set on defense to compete with Ole Miss. I believe Alexandria can score though. I am going to go 60-19 Ole miss.

Eastbrook wins this big. There isn't anyone who can stop Adamson's well coached machine. Blackford is down due to virus. Eastbrook 56-12

Oak hill wins big! Just on coaching alone Oak hill is 3 scores better. Frankton cannot put a full game together. 42-0 unless Oak hill puts jv in to early!

I am going to take MG in a somewhat close game. Neither team is capable of stopping anyone. MG has a little bit more talent. Mg wins 33-20

Good luck to everyone this week!

  3. Eastbrook beat the breaks off Alexandria tonight! Alexandria is very young but you cannot play defense without having some adjustments to slow down the other team! Always been a problem there! They have run the same offense for the most part for the last 10+ years but have made adjustments recently due to talent or lack there of. Offense is only reason they have somewhat stayed competitive the last 2 years.

Blackford had to have been down some talent tonight! Elwood is improving but looks like this was just an ugly game!

Oak hill looks to have won the defensive game i thought they would have! Neither team has a quality offense!

Ole Miss proved what everyone alreay knew. Frankton is a bottom feeder and it isn't because of a lack of talent. Although the cic in general is down talent. They just got rum drummed by an average team tonight.

There is a few schools in the CIC  that will need to make changes in the very near future or they will be in a world of hurt because they allowed a coach to stay to long.

  4. Eastbrook by 5tds. Alexandria is young and will not be able to stop Eastbrook.

Blackford if this game is played Blackford will win big! 5tds Elwood cannot stop anyone.

Ole Miss in a blowout! I will say 6tds. I think Ile miss finds its offense and as usual their defense is good!

Oak Hill wins this in a possible shut out! I will say 4tds

  5. Per what I saw and heard it looks like:

    1. Eastbrook is just in a league of their own!

    2. Oak hill proved they are playing as a team! Has to be 2nd now with win over Ole Miss.

    3. Ole Miss is still definitely 3rd. To much talent for the rest of the teams.

    4. Blackford with a slight edge over Alexandria if they can field a full team!

    5. Alexandria is one of if not youngest teams out there. If they can limit turnovers 4-5 a game they could suprise teams.

    6. Madison Grant is on their way up but still pretty young and small on defense.

    7. Frankton with the slight edge over Elwood. They have better talent but lack the coaching.

    8. Elwood coaching has these kids believing again just a lack of talent. Hopefully for Elwood the coach stays and builds them up from the youth up.

  6. Alexandria by a bunch! They are young and look like they may be starting a freshman q.b. this week!

Eastbrook by a bunch! Eastbrook should be able to put jv in by 3rd!

Blackford by 2-3td's! Mg isn't bad but Blackford is just to strong!

Ole Miss by 7pts! Ole Miss will get tested but i feel they are a little better overall than Oak Hill

Let's talk of the toilet bowl this week Elwood vs. Frankton. Frankton has some talent but let's face it they get out coached 90% of the time. With that week schedule they have no way they should ever finish below 500. If Frankton loses can we start looking for a new coach?

I agree with you! Plus from what I understand most other Coaches cannot stand him either!

I think that another thing that has to be focused on is a football coach's relationship with the other varsity coach's in the building. There are plenty of basketball, baseball, wrestling, etc. kids in the CIC that are not multi-sport athletes and would contribute greatly to CIC football teams. At schools that size it is essential to try to get kids out for multiple sports and find a way to share the athletes in the summer/off-season.

Absolutely and that is how it used to be! I know locally they do a great job of working together but in past years and past coaches it wasn't that way.

Listen most local schools do not pay very well for the time spent coaching. To many coaches hire buddies instead of qualified coaches who could really help at the different levels and or with different responsibilities. There just doesn't seem to be the ALL-IN belief there used to be!

Your honest opinion...can it change and if so how long does it take a program to change it?  Elwood/Alex/Oak Hill have all had success within last 10 years.  Frankton had been a been a football school for a number of years until recently.  Blackford looked like it had a turn in direction a few years ago.  MG has had more negative than positive I think...do any of those have a shot to turn it around?  Or is current CIC simply destined to be a weak conference or are they waiting for a change up and I'm defining that as Eastbrook/Mississinewa leaving.

    I think you covered it!

I believe it will take a change at head coach at a few of these schools. You have to have a coach like Adamson who is an intricate part of his youth program and or has assistant's who can build it up!

Really care about the young men in your system just don't talk about it! Do weekly grade checks even if they are to just make sure a kid has not slipped from one week to the next. Sometimes you can tell alot by the fluctuation of someones grades.

The smaller schools will always have numbers go up and down from one year to the next. The better Coaches will retain a majority of their kids!

Locally i watched the 2020 and 2021 graduating classes lose 50% of their classes from 7th/8th to 9th/10th and that comes from multiple issues.  Family, grades, friends and or just being scared or uncomfortable going against varsity at practice.

Shorter travel for sure, but too much discrepancy between school size and/or talent when considering other sports.  Just in football...Anderson, Jay County, and Muncie Central would be guaranteed bottom dwellers.  Plus, Delta/Pendelton are right where they belong in the HHC for all sports.

Frankton has had equal success in basketball as Lapel, but they're a doormat in the CIC from a football perspective and Lapel/Tipton/Heights/Greentown looks like they'd be a lock for the 3rd spot in football most years and add another quality opponent to the other teams.  But should a Lapel, Tipton, or Heights want in to simply play weaker competition most Friday nights?  Playing Alex, MG, Blackford, Frankton, Elwood right now does nothing for a program trying to get better come tourney time.  They are just guaranteed wins.  I'd argue that Eastbrook/Mississinewa should want out...and Lapel, Tipton, Heights, Greentown, etc should stay far away.

No clue how scheduling works, but I think you want 2-3 games that you have to play phenomenal to win.  4-5 games you need to play well to win.  And 2-3 games you need to show up to win.  Let the tourney play out how it may.   I get that formula can never be perfect, but it'd be something I'd keep in mind as a HC/AD.  I don't see Eastbrook/Mississinewa keeping that balance with 6 other teams that have no chance to beat them (Eastbrook has pulled it off in recent years, so maybe they know the secret is to frontload the first 3-4 games and then use the CIC schedule to get healthy/perfect).  Plus, as I said earlier, one of the only non-conference wins was MG vs Cloverdale...I don't see much success from the bottom 5 this season come tourney time.  Guess my overall question is what needs to change in the bottom 5 in the CIC - HC changes, staff changes, Youth League Emphasis, something in community, lack of spring/summer this year?  Or is this a part of an overall trend we are going to start/continue to see within those bottom 5?

    Very very well said!

It truely comes down most to what head coaches and staff do from the youth level up or lack there of! Alot of times depends on coaching staffs kids!

I remember trying to help build lower levels of football where i live using the high school playbook only to have others not use it. When i coached at the high school level the head coach did not care enough to fix it. Guess what now they are paying for it. Just like other schools in the CIC!

It will take a head coach to sit down with all his assistants that are paid and divvy up the responsibilities of each and every one to fix it from the youth level to high school level.

Until everyone buys in this is the product you get with the CIC

dont know why Eastbrook stays .... I feel their chances for a blue ring has and will continue to diminish by being in the CIC.

You are right. I think it is time to blow up local conferences and start over though.

Just think if you had a conference with:

    Ole Miss

    Eastbrook

    Marion

    Delta

    Pendleton

    Anderson

    Jay county

    Yorrktown

    Muncie Central

Shorter travel and a decently strong conference at times! Much better than the CIC for them.

Why is this the topic every year by week 3?  How can the CIC become a better football conference so that fans and ex players can argue about who is going to win on Friday night instead of talking about Lapel coming to the CIC every year??? Seriously!  Why is the CIC so bad, or lack of competitiveness with each other, at football.  There are athletes at these schools.  Look at Basketball, Baseball, Wrestling. These sports have good showing around the state.

You are right but when there are really only 2-3 truely strong football coaches (successful) year in and year out and not just due to having athletes every 10 years this will be the conversation for the near future!

I think Hamilton Heights is pretty happy in the Hoosier. Take a lot of knocks in football lately, but the other sports factor in to Conference decisions also, and they are very competitive in those. It wouldn't be a good move for them as a school to switch to the CIC.

Oh i agree. Was just saying from a travel standpoint. You are right though.

Can Elwood beat Frankton this week?

Will mississinewa ever change their nickname?

what schools could CiC add for a north/south or East/West split?

I just don't see it for Elwood. As bad as the Head coach is at Frankton he just has much more talent.

Not sure on Ole Miss nick name.

    Lapel/Tipton/Eastern Greentown for the South/West.

    Delta/Winchester/Monroe Central if North/East

1.Problem is some of those drives are quite long. 2. Most of those teams do not want to joing the conference!

  15. 1. Eastbrook- always best prepared team in conference! Not always best talent but year in and year out the believe in coach's program!

    2. Ole Miss- New coach and lot's of whole to fill this year. Will take time but I only see at the most 3 losses in regular season.

    3. Oak hill- have them #3 due to upperclassmen. Also another godd staff.

    4. Alexandria- very young team this year. Lost most of it's better talent! New q.b. and a strong freshman class will be learning on the go! Need 40+ a game as they cannot stop the better scripted offenses.

    5. Blackford- good staff. If the can keep enough kids together i think they can squeeze out #5.

    6. Madison grant- this team has potential but lack of #'s like Blackford! Could of been 5 or 6.

    7. Frankton- Think it is time for change there. Have had some talent but not done much with it. Per grads most kids just do not believe in coaching philosophy.

    8. Elwood- only time will tell. If they can keep players eligible for many reasons i see a potential win in their future. Problem is new staff, kids and playbook. I do think if the school board leaves the coach alone he could change this program!
