I had them third in Indiana behind Center Grove and Cathedral. As I stated, there are so many teams bunched up after the top 100 that it is hard to distinguish between them all. For instance, last week I was really torn about not ranking Wilmette (IL) Loyola and Louisville (KY) Trinity. They were two outstanding teams that were in the "bunch" just below the ranked teams. This week several teams dropped out which allowed both of them to enter the poll. Brownsburg, if they continue to play well, will most likely appear as teams drop out due to bad play or losses.

Real quick on my philosophy of ranking teams. When looking at individual matchups, I look at what would happen in a best of ten scenarios. As you are aware, some sports use a one-game playoff (NCAAA basketball) while most use a "series" of games to determine the best team. I use the series of games approach. Well, how could you do that when they only play one game? I look at the game itself and each team's aggregate schedule. In other words, how they played in all of their games not just this one. Let's look at the Brownsburg-Cathedral game. Brownsburg established a large early lead with Cathedral coming back to within a touchdown at the final gun. Could Cathedral have won if not spotting Brownsburg the early lead? What factors led to the early lead and the comeback in that game. Secondly, I look at common opponents. Unfortunately, in this case, there are none currently. Looking at their past performances this season, Brownsburg has a 5-point win over Ben Davis and a 35-point win over Franklin Central. Cathedral has a 21-point win over Lafayette Jefferson and a 14-point win on the road against an improving Penn team, another game where they trailed early but were able to secure the win on a comeback. I think in the end run, that Cathedral's wins were over better teams. Now with that being said, I don't think there is that large of a gap between the two teams. Brownsburg is currently ranked just outside the Top 100 where there are several debatable teams that can make a case for inclusion. Keep in mind that polls are dynamic, constantly changing in hopes of having a solid list by years end. BTW, I knew this question would come my way as it does anytime a team is ranked higher than a team that it lost to. Hope you enjoy the poll and feel free to question it at any time. Saw both East St. Louis (IL) and St. Louis (MO) Christian Brothers play in Canton, Ohio last weekend as part of the Freedom Bowl. East St. Louis took Baltimore St. Francis Academy to the wire, losing on a last-minute score. They had a chance to win with the game; tied at the three-minute mark and possession at the St. Francis 30-yard line. However, they turned the ball over on downs and St. Francis beat them in the final minute. This is a St. Francis team that many folks rank as the best team in the country. Christian Brothers dominated a decent Milton (GA) team. Any time you dominate a high-ranking Georgia team, you have my respect. I do not have DeSmet Jesuit ranked nationally, but in the state's top 10. They lost their opener to a real good Springfield (OH) team by a touchdown and today they get to host IMG Academy. Could be 0-2 before starting to play Missouri teams. BTW, East St. Louis plays Christian Brothers this weekend and DeSmet Jesuit plays both of them this season. So, we should be able to weed them out after all the dust settles.

I have always had the greatest respect for Allen but this new coach seems to be cut from a different cloth than they have had in the past. I watched the South Oak Cliff-Duncanville game as well, and you are correct, they hung with them the entire game. The score is not indicative of the play.

Agree with you on that, however, there are exceptions where this state will have an outstanding team that can compete on a national level with anyone. For instance, the 2003 Warren Central team (the Desmond Tardy team). I recall traveling to Ryle, Kentucky to watch them play Cincinnati Elder, the year after Elder had won the Ohio Division I title. We sat on the Elder side and all they did prior to kickoff was rip Indiana high school football. I tried to tell them that Warren Central was a very good team, but it fell on deaf ears. We left the game with about three minutes left with Warren Central ahead something like 43-24. It may not be the correct score, but I do recall that Warren Central's punter was never on the field. You are correct that most years it would be tough to stack up against a team like IMG Academy. But we will never know until our teams get an opportunity on the field, which I think will lead to our teams being better from the experience.

I do complete a Top 100 for two national forums every week and you are correct when you state that Indiana teams are tough to gauge because of the limited OOS games. Hopefully, the change in the 300-mile rule will allow that to happen more as we move forward. A national promoter has told me that he is in touch with some Indiana teams regarding some possible matchups with national relevant teams in the next several years. However, getting back to ranking Indiana teams, a look at last year's Center Grove team is a good study. They were ranked in everyone's (including mine) top fifteen teams in the country. The other fifteen teams' level of competition was much more difficult than was Center Grove's. Then as you watch Center Grove eking out a championship win over an unranked but determined Westfield team, it gives you pause when they are being put at a level of say Duncanville (TX), Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas, or any other team ranked in that tier. On top of that, I have to really be careful with Indiana teams to avoid bias, one way or the other.

Yea, the new Allen coach is whining about the game. Said he did not schedule it and talked of all the advantages that Bosco has but never mentioned how Allen has ruled Texas football using the same advantages.

A little of both. St. Xavier lost its opener to a pretty good Lakota West team by three (16-13). Loyola Academy of Wilmette was playing their first game but are coming off a strong season in 2021. However, they are a consistently a Top 10 ten team in Illinois. St. Xavier has a tough schedule ahead, so time will tell if they are down this season or just off to a bad start. Moeller plays East Central this week in Cincinnati. Will be interesting to see where both programs are.

Cherry Creek has a solid program, finally displacing Valor Christian as the team to beat in Colorado. They were a two-touchdown winner over a good Ralston Valley team in their opener. If the game is Saturday and streamed, I will most likely watch it. Going to the Carmel-Cass Tech game Friday night with a stop at Junipers on Main.

St. Edward was really solid in the game. Every aspect of their game was outstanding. Don't really think Central Catholic is the second-best team in Pennsylvanian. Also, came away impressed with Chardon (OH).

Should be an interesting matchup, as Central Catholic is ranked second in Pennsylvania. The game follows an outstanding matchup in the first game as St. Louis Christain Brothers plays Milton (GA) in the first game. The highlight of the weekend will be Saturday's final game which features nationally second ranked Baltimore St. Francis against East St. Louis (IL). Will be a track meet in pads.

It is hard to argue that this weekend's lineup of high school football games may be the greatest weekend ever. After attending your favorite local game Friday night, stock up on cold beverages, your favorite snacks, and check out one of the great games listed below on either an ESPN outlet, Bally Sports station or grab a streaming platform somewhere.
