  1. Promoters make their money through corporate sponsorship and ad buys. Sometimes they get regional or national television networks to cover the games which brings in additional cash. You would think that Lilly, the Colts, Indianapolis Convention and Tourism or someone similar would be willing to pony up a few dollars for this thing to become a reality.
  2. There are promoters that are currently staging multi-game events throughout the country. How do you think Miami (FL) Central was able to play at Bellflower (CA) in week one and Las Vegas in week two. Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei is already looking for an out-of-state game for next season. It can be done, but would need some third party with the understanding of the cost and promotional aspect of the event. Years ago we attended the Herbstreit Classic games in Cincinnati which featured as many as twelve to fourteen games at various sites. Somehow they were able to bring teams in from every corner of the country. It can be done, but again, it will take an organization with knowledge of how to structure the event to cover cost. If you keep it to the adjoining states, it should reduce the cost as most can travel the day of the event.
  3. Now you're talking. Why not? What a great four or two game set we could have early in the season with our best against the adjoining states. I have been preaching this for years, but it never gains any traction.
  4. This concept has been around since 2014 without a lot of fanfare and little notice. As a fan, I love the matchups but there are only a few states that participate. I just can't see this ever being a major event since most states don't participate and even in those states that do, many teams move on after state finals to basketball.
  5. No problem. California has been changing their tournament over the last several years hoping to find something that works. They like North vs South angle so most likely will keep this format for a while.
  6. The have regional play with the winners advancing to a "bowl" type final. They have an open division and seven other divisions with two classes in each division. Those divisions and classes are based on a group of individuals who create all the match-ups. The biggest downfall to this system is that the best teams in the state are eliminated in regional play. This year, the best four teams in the state, Mater Dei, Servite, Bosco and Cen10 were in the same regional. Made for some great games in that regional but the bowl games are somewhat anticlimactic. Santa Ana Mater Dei won the Southern Section Division 1 Regional beating both Servite and Cen10. In the final game of the season, the "Open" championship, they play San Mateo Serra. Serra is a good team, but Mater Dei wins this game without much trouble.

  8. This has to be the most ridiculous rule in any association in the country. What really makes it illogical is that if Allen (TX) wanted to come to Indiana to play, they would be denied. Another reason the IHSAA is twenty years behind the times when dealing with high school football.
  9. The great thing about the Texas finals are they all are televised on Bally Sports. Have not got a chance to watch Austin Westlake play this year, but they must be loaded and will be interesting to watch them play.
  10. I realize that to most high school football fans the season ended after the Center Grove - Westfield game. However, for this guy it is just a start to the "best time of the year". Starting with Wednesday nights Alabaster (AL) Thompson - Phenix City (AL) Central game, I must have watched all of or portions of twenty plus high school games on NFHS. For those of you who don't want to watch Army-Navy next weekend, I suggest you fork down $10 for a subscription and watch all the high school football you want. Once the season is over, it is easy to cancel your subscription. A few thoughts as I wind down the weekend: - Some states, Arizona being the most prominent, have created an "Open" Division playoff system. What I mean is that they take the best eight teams in that state and those teams are in a separate playoff while all others play in the tournament based on enrollment. For years Arizona would have several teams in different classes claiming to be the best in the state, now they actually settle it on the field. Rhode Island, which has four teams in its "Open Division", takes it a step further by allowing the losing teams in the first round to drop into the Division I tournament. May sound crazy but they do not have any arguments who the best team is at the end of the season. - Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei is two touchdowns better than anyone in the country. They play this coming weekend in the Open Championship against a very good San Mateo Serra team, but it should be a formality for the team that has beaten Anaheim Servite (twice), St. John Bosco and Corona Centennial. And if you thought Byrce Young was good for Alabama yesterday, wait until you see sophomore starting quarterback they have this year. - Congrats to Bobref, as his Eagles won the Division 1 tournament in Ohio. They beat some very good teams along the way in one of the nations' toughest tournament brackets. - For some reason, Texas teams just appear to be bigger and faster than teams in other states. Caught a few minutes of the Duncanville-DeSoto game last night and was really impressed with Duncanville' size and speed. By the way, Mater Dei beat them 45-3 earlier in the season in Texas. - Finally, how do I think Center Grove would fare against these teams. I think their defense could hold their own, but don't know if their offense is powerful enough to win a shootout against teams like Collins Hill (GA), Austin (TX) Westlake and others that are ranked in the Top 20 in the country. It would have been great to see them against a Lakewood St. Edwards team, but it never came to fruition, so we will never know.
  11. Two out of three not bad. Surprised that Versailles beat a very good Kirtland team.
  12. Have attended several games here. Really like this facility, no track and solid structure.
  13. the IHSAA announced that they are rescheduling next weeks semi-state games for Saturday at the following locations: Lafayette – Merrillville vs Westfield Michigan City vs Zionsville Indianapolis – Center Grove vs Ben Davis Indianapolis Lutheran vs Tri High Bloomington – Cathedral vs New Albany Mt Vernon (Fortville) vs Evansville Memorial South Bend – New Prairie vs Northridge Andrean vs Eastside Terre Haute – Gibson Southern vs Tri-West Indianapolis Scecina vs Evansville Mater Dei Kokomo – Indianapolis Brebuf vs Mishawaka Marian North Judson vs Adams Central Oh wait, this is Indiana. Never mind.
  14. You are fine. I will never understand why people have to criticize others who make attempts to bring discussion and information to these boards. Living in the area and trying to decide which game I will attend Friday, it was much appreciated.
  15. Let me just add this. My gang was at a Mississinewa-Marion playoff game several years ago. We sat on the Mississinewa side and will just say, it was our last visit there.
  16. I get ridiculed on the other board for ranking them, but the Papermakers are strong each season. Should they meet up with Franklin in the final game, it would be one worth watching. A win Friday night most likely assures them a spot in the final poll.

  18. Totally agree. Will not attend a game there.
  19. They have a grass field that was so bad last week that by the second quarter you could not tell who was who on the field.
  20. 6A and 5A teams should play a ten game regular season schedule. Eliminate sectionals and jump from the regular season straight to regionals.
  21. I am not going to drive two hours to stand five deep in the end zone in a pouring rain to watch this game. I will drive two hours to sit in Lucas Oil Stadium to sit in comfort to watch the game of the year. Move the game!!
  22. Juniper on Main, maybe the best shrimp and grits I have ever had.
  23. I attended the Carmel (IN) - Detroit ML King game last night in what was one of the greatest games I have ever seen. To set it up, ML King is up 33-29 with a little over a minute to go but Carmel has a first and goal at the ML King two yard line. King's defense tightens up and forces a fourth down play which is unsuccessful (an incomplete pass into the end zone). King fans celebrate an apparent win. However, on the first offensive play after the goal line stand, King fumbles and Carmel recovers the ball and runs it in for a touchdown. Carmel fans are elated. King receives the ball with exactly a minute to go in the game and drives the ball down the field scoring with 8.8 seconds to go to take a 40-36 lead. King fans are again elated and think the game is over. For some reason, King pooch kicks the kickoff and Carmel returns it to the King 35 yard line with 3.8 seconds to go. The Carmel quarterback launces a pass into the end zone on the final play and a kid from Carmel blocks the ML King defenders off to make an amazing catch in the end zone. Final score: Carmel 42 Detroit ML King 40. On top of all that, we stumbled into a fantastic place to eat prior to the game. Folks, this in what it is all about.
  24. September 24 - Batesville @ Lawrenceburg (Whiskey's)
