Pete Koulianos was hired/ approved as the New Head Football Coach of Lake Central HS at last night's school board meeting.

Coach Koulianos did a great job starting the Hanover Central program, and then returning Highland to competitiveness. This will be a formidable challenge for him.

  2. In fairness, I think we should entertain the possibility that this is simply a generational thing. So much is different now from the “good old days” that I can conceive of the combination of great skill and “now” generation sensitivities being compatible, and not a hindrance.

Look at me, all silver lining …

Since 2018, I haven't heard a negative word about the Hanover Central coaching staff. I've met a few folks who aren't "best buds" with BoBref's nephew by any means (sorry if I'm aiding in rule breaking here, just using what was given to me lol). But I haven't heard, or seen myself, a thing done that would suggest the Hanover coaching staff engages in behavior that would cause Southern Lake County animosity to be a thing.

However, I won't tell you (@scarab527) what you've heard, seen, experienced, or otherwise. Just expressing that in the last 6 seasons, I haven't heard anything negative about the Hanover Central coaching staffs behavior on Friday Nights.

The prevailing sentiment in the Region.

Just keep in mind that HC has overmatched quite a few teams in the last few seasons. There are bound to be some sour grapes out there.

Finally some sanity in this thread. At this point Bob is convinced Rich Mirer will have had a better NFL career than Williams will end up having.

About 50% of QBs drafted in the 1st round never amount to much, so I could have just flipped a coin. For every Peyton Manning, there’s a Ryan Leaf.

I mean as a Notre Dame AND Bears fan, I can see where it'd be damn near impossible to root for the guy.

If I can root for Tom Brady, I can root for a USC guy … if he doesn’t turn out to be a jackass. But the early signs are not encouraging.

Williams has a much higher ceiling but also has a much lower floor...

I’m uncertain how he’s going to respond to … taking a substantial pay cut. 😂

So that really says something about the overall quality of Indiana High School football.

Perhaps not the quality of the football, but definitely the entitlement mentality 35 yrs. or so of ping pong balls and all-in has fostered. The IHSAA’s waving the white flag because they couldn’t figure out how to please everyone with a qualification format is the single most destructive decision in the history of Indiana high school football.

Like to think not, but also would think Bears draft board also had CW right on top just like everyone has had for last 2 years.

Heard Louis Riddick say, after watching LSU’s pro day, Daniels should be the #1 pick.

NCAA president Charlie Baker wants ban on prop bets in college sports

    By David Ubben

    5h ago

NCAA president Charlie Baker wants a ban on prop bets in college sports, he said in a statement released Wednesday.

“The NCAA is drawing the line on sports betting to protect student-athletes and to protect the integrity of the game – issues across the country these last several days show there is more work to be done,” Baker said.

Prop bets allow fans to bet on how many points or rebounds a basketball player might have, or yards or touchdowns a football player might have, instead of or in conjunction with a game’s outcome or spread.

Fans can bet on the outcomes of games but in many of the 38 states where sports betting is legal, prop bets are not allowed in college sports.

Baker wants that reach extended to all states.

“This week we will be contacting officials across the country in states that allow these bets and ask them to join Ohio, Vermont, Maryland and many others and remove college prop bets from all betting markets,” Baker said.

Some players have been subject to individualized harassment if their play resulted in a prop bet going against bettors, regardless of the outcome of the game. Baker has previously explored legislation that would create a “prohibited bettors list” of people who were known to harass players and coaches.

Baker, who played basketball at Harvard, has opposed prop bets in college sports since taking over as president last March.

“I think prop betting in some respects is one of the parts I worry about the most,” Baker told CBS News in November.

On Monday, the NBA also announced that Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter was under investigation by the league for betting irregularities surrounding prop bets that involved Porter. In two separate games, he left the game early with injuries, allowing bettors to cash in on multiple prop bets that made them the most profitable for bettors on that day, according to a media release from DraftKings.

Loyola Maryland coach Tavaras Hardy resigned earlier this month after Loyola said it had removed a person from the program after it became aware of a gambling violation. The Associated Press reported that Hardy was not the person removed from the program for the gambling violation.

U.S. Integrity, a gambling watchdog group employed by many sports leagues and teams, also flagged unusual betting patterns surrounding a pair of Temple University basketball games earlier this year. That group flagged the activity surrounding Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon last year when Bohannon was fired for giving an associate inside information on his lineup that he used to attempt to place bets on Alabama baseball.

  10. How much of the decision-making is based on the feeling that “If I pass up the consensus #1 player in the draft — and he turns into a star someplace else — I am toast.”

or...perhaps other reasons to have concern.  I don't consider Dungy a "meathead"....darn good resume for NFL defense.

It’s like anything else. Players will adjust. Nobody has a problem anymore with horse collar tackles. Same thing here. Move along. Nothing to see.

  12. In an effort to have more kickoffs returned, but also limit those injury-producing high speed collisions, the NFL has radically modified the kickoff procedure. Now, the teams will line up closer together, and won’t start moving until the kick is touched by a receiver, or hits the ground. Here are the details of the new procedure:

    ALIGNMENT

    • All kicking team players other than the kicker will line up with one foot on the receiving team’s B40 yard line
      • Kicker cannot cross the 50-yard line until ball touches the ground or player in landing zone or end zone
      • The 10 kicking team players cannot move until the ball hits the ground or player in the landing zone or the end zone
    • The receiving team will line up as follows:
      • Setup Zone – a 5-yard area from the B35 to the B30 yard line where at least 9 receiving team players must line up
        • At least 7 players with foot on the B35 yard line (restraining line) with alignment requirements (outside numbers, numbers to hashes, and inside hashes)
        • Players not on the restraining line must be lined up in setup zone outside the hash marks
        • All players in the setup zone cannot move until the kick has hit the ground or a player in the landing zone or the end zone
      • A maximum of 2 returners may line up in the landing zone and can move at any time prior to, or during, the kick

    LANDING ZONE

    • Landing zone is the area between the receiving team’s goal line and its 20-yard line.
    • Any kick that hits short of the landing zone – treated like kickoff out of bounds and ball spotted at B40 yard line; play would be blown dead as soon as kick lands short of the landing zone
    • Any kick that hits in the landing zone - must be returned
    • Any kick that hits in the landing zone and then goes into the end zone – must be returned or downed by receiving team – if downed then touchback to B20 yard line
    • Kick hits in end zone, stays inbounds - returned or downed – if downed then touchback to B35 yard line
    • Any kick that goes out of the back of the end zone (in the air or bounces) – touchback to B35 yard line

    MISCELLANEOUS

    • No fair catch or signal is allowed. Officials will blow the play dead
    • If conditions cause ball to fall off tee twice, then kicker will be allowed to use kicking stick to keep the ball in place. The closest covering official will pick up the stick immediately after the kick
  13. Since 2018, states have taken in $4.33 billion in tax revenue from sports betting. Sports betting is now legal in 38 states plus the District of Columbia, with states raking in $4.33 billion in tax revenue since the Supreme Court ruled in 2018 that states could legalize sports betting. And that’s just the tax revenue. The amount wagered is many multiples of that. With that much money in play, it seems a foregone conclusion that there will be those who want to get a slice of that by manipulating outcomes. There is a potential gambling scandal brewing in the NBA right now, springing from the proliferation of “prop” bets based on individual statistics. It’s a lot easier for a single player to influence statistics like 3 pt. shot attempts, assists, turnovers, etc., than to determine the outcome of a game. The confluence of gambling and fantasy sports creates unlimited opportunities to skew results. The NFL and other leagues are now so heavily invested in sports gambling that anything that suggests to bettors that the games are not on the up and up will be dealt with swiftly and severely. And it is spreading to college sports as well … which are not nearly as closely monitored as pro sports. Look for lifetime bans and criminal prosecutions.

We have been used to TV networks exerting major influence on game times, pace of play, and other aspects of the games. Is the day far off when the large gambling concerns like Bally, Draft Kings, MGM, etc., will have that type of influence?

I can't imagine it's a right or left thing. If I were to guess, I would say a higher percentage of left wingers would be in favor of the blind draw and a higher percentage of right wingers in favor of seeding. Still waiting for Komets to clarify that one. My first thought is that he messed his post up and meant to say left wingers. Stay tuned.

More confused than ever now. 🤪😜
