Lol. Closed conference makes me zero difference. Zero interest in finding non-conference games. Memorial has played siac teams in non conference games before adding Jasper and VL. Believe it or not, EM had trouble getting good teams to schedule them in week 2. Nobody likes getting beat by a 3A Catholic team non conference.  Only change is Memorial added VL and it counts. Jasper is still week 1 and has been for years. I’m good!! I would have enjoyed going to GS, if VL didn’t get back in. Try to extend that win streak in our home away from home to 4 games. 😜

SIAC has a strong in-conference schedule, I was just giving a friendly jab about being locked in.  But it does give the rest of the state something to argue about with the Sagarin numbers! lol

Personally, I am ready for the next GS-Memorial matchup... been far too long! I think both teams look forward to that clash.

Ahhh. Bad info. A frosh isn't really a transfer, right?

BTW, I meant nothing negative with the post at all. I think any HS athlete should be able to transfer whenever and wherever they want. Nobody makes the speech, band or German club kid sit out a year if they transfer.

No offense taken here, I just enjoy the gossip 🙂

And, apparently, I can put that career in graphic design on the back burner.

I feel like this is one of those years that determine who will be the top dog for the next 2/3 seasons in the PAC.  From my perspective it’s wide open

I like our chances. I know MS ball doesn't fully translate to HS, but... I like our chances. That said, it will be tough sledding against a full strength HH program. No one around these parts doubts that for a second.

  4. My opinion, popular or unpopular:  It comes down to a managing a coach's expectations of the athlete, and understanding/respecting/accommodating what the kid wants out of the sport he is coaching.

If the kid prefers to prioritize football then he should be able to wrestle at whatever weight class he falls into at a respective time throughout the season.  This might mean he sits behind a better wrestler and only gets JV reps, or leaves a weight class empty, but if his goal is to use the skills he's learned wrestling to make him a better football player, mission accomplished.  A LOT of good wrestling reps come on the practice mat that can transition onto the gridiron, even if they don't see a lot of competition at meets, or if they are sitting at the lighter end of a weight class and wrestling up in competition.  The wrestling coach needs to respect and facilitate that decision since he is there to serve the needs of the kid, not vice-versa.  I'd hope/expect a wrestling coach would take on a football-focused player that wants to use wrestling to supplement his football skills without demanding the kid hold/lose weight to meet the coach's "needs" at a certain weight class.

On the other hand, if wrestling is his priority then I don't see anything wrong with preparing for football without seeking huge gains in the gym if his goal is to maintain a certain weight class for himself or the wrestling team.  There are positions all over the football field for a kid to play at any weight.  He may be down on the depth chart come Friday night, but if football isn't his primary focus and he's able to still contribute effectively running scout team for the 1's, then that should be respected by the football coach.  Again, the coach is there to serve the needs of the kid, not vice-versa.  And again, I'd hope/expect a football coach would take on a wrestling-focused player without demanding they gain a certain amount of weight to meet the coach's "needs" at a particular position.

Inevitably you have the athletes that want to be the best they can be at both sports.  That then comes down to managing each individual athlete's goals for both programs.  It certainly isn't simple, but there are plenty of examples out there that prove a kid can be an accomplished athlete at both football and wrestling.

Unless you’re talking about IHSAA football.

    Absolutely... but we're not 😁

Next big idea: NFL all-in 32-team seeded postseason.  Make it happen! 😂 Actually, that will probably happen before they fix OT...

That is not always the case for MVP's.  Depends on the division and conference for the given year.  I've seen league MVP's pick up some pretty worthless stats over the final games.

    Never said that....

Saying playoff games should be a factor in the equation for those that play them.

May be a "value" to his team, but doesn't mean he is the " most valuable" of all teams

I've seen MVPs pick up worthless stats in games 1-12 too.

I guess the question is whether the MVP award should be regarded as a regular season accomplishment or not. My opinion is it should be a regular season award. Once upon a time not every team and their dog made the playoffs.

Does anyone think it’s odd that the season’s most valuable player is decided before the season’s most important games are played?

Arguably the season's most important games happen in the regular season in an effort to GET to the playoffs.  Then every next game is the most important game... but only if you make it that far. Lotta league MVPs on non SB-caliber teams over the years.

Under no circumstances, could their actions be considered to be that of a "Bro Coach."  (Wasn't that a issue on here many moons ago?)

Sean McVay, IMO, is the epitome of a "Bro Coach"... and he seems to be doing ok. 😉 That said, I struggle not to roll my eyes when he streaks down the sideline to celebrate with his players in the endzone.  I'm more of a happy medium kinda guy, myself.  You know, somewhere between the arms crossed perpetual scowl of Landry and the cartwheeling sideshow of McVay. 😁

Interested in what criteria people used or would use to nominate an individual,

These would be mine re: McKee:  Knowledge and understanding of the sport.  Efficient communicator.  Regard for, patience with, and supportive of, athletes of all abilities.  Desire to improve.  Willingness to learn.

I'm sure many/most nominated would share those attributes, among others.

I have gotten wind of some of that "bad taste" from former Big 8 schools.  But, at the end of the day people make mistakes.  Grown adults in charge of educating our children probably shouldn't hold long term grudges.  With regard to your second sentence, wouldn't the PAC want Tecumseh and Vincennes as a package deal?

I don't know that I would require a package deal.  I can't see an uneven Big/Small split being a problem one way or the other, unless I'm overlooking something.  I think the WIC has an uneven setup, which I assume is working out (...?). That said, the OCD part of me shudders a bit.

Assuming only one school does come on board, it would seem to be the time to consider the Big/Small realignment in some fashion.  Not necessarily the fabled promotion/relegation concept (nothing against it, just looking at it from a different lens at the moment), but the odd number does provide an opportunity to redraw the line between Big/Small, even if a school was previously on a different side of the line.  Currently the smallest Big (Princeton) might drop to the Small side without much fanfare.  Likewise, the largest Small (Southridge) might push up to the Big side.  And probably with no argument from either of them.  Those are using some DoE enrollment numbers from another thread, so grain of salt.  And frankly, those numbers only have Heritage Hills as being a dozen or so students larger than Pton, and Pike Central a mere three students smaller than SR.  I wouldn't think the PAC would want to redo it every other year or so with the inevitable minor enrollment shifts.

Kinda crazy how just the rumor of Illinois moving to a district playoff situation caused all of this.

no rumors of districts would mean Mt. Carmel wouldn’t have had to leave….which then set off the Big 8 disbanding….which led to the new PAC and new SIAC….which brings us to today.

    Freakin' Illinois people, amirite??

Successful teams are competing in thier conference and sectional most seasons.  Maybe they have only done that for 2 or 3 years.  It hardly takes a 38 year body of work.  The great thing about Indiana HS football is that it is a little like the stock market, past performance doesn't guarantee future results.

Does that mean it's time to reconsider my Enron stock?

How does Tecumseh stack up in the small side of the PAC?

They already play most of the small PAC... seems like a natural jump to me.  It looks like they'd just need to add SR and SS.  SR in most years probably isn't a favorable game for them.  SS perhaps more so.
