Let me clarify. The situation you initially reported did not have the phrase “on his own,” or “intentionally,” as is used in the case book. The complete play and ruling in the case book is as follows:

“9.6.2 SITUATION C K1 free-kicks the ball toward the sideline. R1 runs to a sideline and intentionally steps out of bounds. While R1 is still out of bounds, he intentionally touches the ball as it nears the sideline. The ball is declared dead by the covering official. RULING: Illegal participation by R1. (4-3-1, 6-1-9)”

If that accurately describes the play in question, then the correct ruling is illegal participation on R.

Ahh, so big difference to the NFL there. What does NCAA say?

Don’t let him lie to you. It wasn’t even the B team. I went to the game.

there varsity was tied with them at end of 1st half. Then merrillville came out and took a 10-7 lead in 3rd. And then after that they subbed 7 freshman in on defense. So the defense had people who hadn’t played varsity all year. And there offense wasn’t all out of wack. They had 5 turnovers I believe and Chesterton got points on all of them I believe

Cody, are you trying to tell us that Merrillville's own reported Digital Scout stats are wildly inaccurate?

Someone needs to lose a stat job before the sectional starts.

Good win for Chesterton: but we also frkm what I understand haven’t looked at our opponents film in weeks. We have been looking 4-5 weeks down road. So take that as you will.

    😂

I take that one of two ways:

    1. This is a program that doesn't know what they are doing, or

    2. You don't know what you're talking about.

Considering this seems to be, overall, an otherwise solid program, I'll take "You don't know what you're talking about" for $500, Alex.

Boonville showed that Gibson Southern can be scored on. With Hunt and that defense playing like it did weeks 1-3, you guys are in a perfect place to play spoiler.

Don't be fooled, if you paid close attention you'd notice that GS intentionally spotted Boonville 14 before the Titans actually began playing in earnest in an effort to equalize the contest. Honestly, how in the world could a team score 2 TDs on straight possessions without seeing 2nd down if it wasn't part of a well orchestrated Titan game plan? Even so, GS still covered the spread.

    I kid, I kid.

Looking forward to an exciting game vs the Alices! Fans better arrive early at the Jewell if they want a good seat!!

    19 3rd down attempts…7 4th down attempts…..

61 rush attempts?!?!?!? 400 yards rushing from GS?

Whatever way is needed to get the job done. PAC Champs!

This game was, uh, interesting to watch. BV scored 14 points and had a kajillion and seven rushing yard average in, like, 3.9 nanoseconds. And and then... basically nothing. Spurts here and there. Admittedly, my butt was starting to get puckered tighter than a snare drum after that second one. But the boys appeared more or less unphased. They came out the next drive, buckled down, and TCOB from 3.9 nanoseconds on.

Whatever game plan BV had on those first two plays 👏 👏 👏

Not sure what they had planned from third down on, but a top notch start.

I tried to take a crack one-man seeding committee, using Sagarin ratings, head-to-head matchups and other criteria a ratings committee might use. I would've pulled MaxPreps ratings in but I don't have unlimited time ;). This could be a fun exercise if we put a "seeding committee" together for each class.

This is great, thanks for taking the time to put this together in a thoughtful, well reasoned way. Worst case, perhaps, is maybe a small, small number of teams that are one-off for whatever intangible reason.  Perfection is not a realistic outcome in a complex seeding scenario, but something like this is darn close.

Overall, this could certainly be sorted out with about 8 or so smart people putting their heads together over a few short hours the Saturday afternoon after week 9. Remotely. With computers. Over the interwebs.

However, the obvious fallacy to this entire exercise is that it clearly can work. And THAT, sir, will NOT do for the IHSAA. Just keep your ping-pong balls polished and make do like it's still 1985 and put the top four best teams on one side of the bracket and the bottom four worst teams on the other side like God Himself intended.

Now, pardon me while I go reserve my seat for the thriller of a Sectional 30 final that would be a running clock in the first half if it were allowed. It doesn't matter which two teams meet, the result will be the same.

But hey, at least 2-7 Washington will be able to hang that 2022-23 Sectional Finalist banner in the gym this winter (no offense Hatchets, but y'all gotta admit S30 is a f'g travesty).

Seriously though, this is great. Thanks again for compiling this!

GS plays a tougher opponent 1st round than OV, so lesser chance to win Sectional. But if they win Sectional, they have a greater chance of winning Regional, etc.

Ah, that makes sense in the sectional. And would if the numbers flipped at the regionals, but in this case they still show less chance in regionals and they don't flip until ss. How does that work?

I know, mostly meaningless numbers (to a point), just curious about interpreting their meaningless... ness.

    These numbers just seem... off.

Aside from some clear bias that I may or may not have (hint: I have), but how does GS ( or any team, for that matter) have a better chance than OV of winning state, but less chance to get out of the same sectional?

    Maff hurts my brain.
