What does color have to do with it?
As Temptation said, there is a stigma against white RB and white DB. And I've actually heard it from coaches, so it's real.

Can’t say I disagree at all. Just speculation on my part. Some folks don’t see power 5 schools lined up and then see a school with an enrollment just over 1000 and become skeptical.
As the dad of a white DB, I get it.

I have a couple of theories.
I think that his lack of next level offers gives people pause.
I also think there is a stereotype out there about the “white” running back in 2019.
But you stated above. He has done it against all levels of competition.
Kid has at least two schools willing to pay for his education to play football. That’s more than most kids could ever dream of.
A couple Cathedral fans really showing their rear end this year on these boards. Embarrassing really. They oughta worry about Decatur Central and Kenny Tracy first.

what does 90% of the state knowing him have to do with anything? Ya i do agree with 90% of the state knowing about him, becuase of the numbers he puts up against the worst competition in the state, i just want to see how he does against a decent team.... also wondering why he does not have any college offers with the numbers he is putting up...... lol.
Why the hate? Has two really good games vs Center Grove. And great games against Zionsville, Harrison, Michigan City, and Decatur Central. And he has several offers? Don’t understand why people come on here to put a kid down and don’t have their facts straight.

Cathedral pulled their starters out after the score was 28-0 in the first quarter with about 6 minutes to go on Friday night....Guess it just comes down to the philosophy of the coaching staff.
and the number of kids on the roster. NP had about 50 kids grades 10-12 available that night. Cathedral has 80 according to Max Preps.
And it definitely comes down to philosophy with dealing with our conference and balancing playing time, reps, and staying sharp against bad teams. There will be a big game in 3 weeks at Delta.

Spegel is a great player, but this hero worship is a bit over the top. How about some accolades for the great linemen who are busting holes up front against these great juggernaut teams like Yorktown, PH, GC and Kokomo?
There names are Matthew Brown, Jacob Brittsan, Ethan Sturgeon, Noah Mack, Tucker Keevers, and Kyle King.
I don’t remember Brett Law, but I’m sure he racked up all his TD’s in very close games against top notch competition every single week.

68-0. Looks like they let off the gas. Scoring by quarter (according to max preps): Q1-28 Q2-27 Q3-7 Q4-6. Looks like they had a few other RBs with a couple TD's so I don't know exactly when those were scored. Either way, with their schedule they have, Spegal and crew would be practicing all summer and during season to play a half of football in 90% of their games. New Pal is a powerhouse as of late and their conference is weak. I'm sure their JV team could beat greenfield central by 30+ as well. What do you do take a knee from halftime on?
Spegal scored on the final possession of second quarter after Greenfield attempted a fake punt, fumbled and Dragons recovered at the GF 10 yard line. He did play one possession of the third quarter and the substitutions had begun. Fourth quarter was entirely JV and freshmen.

Coach Bill Peebles was doing well at Lawrence Central also, not to the level of success Coach Jayson West had but Peebles was only there for 2 seasons. He tool them to 6-5 and 6-4 his only 2 seasons there, but that was coming off of 3 dreadful seasons of 3-7, 4-7, and 3-7 prior to his arrival. They were at least very competitive in the MIC under Peebles, right now they are not competitive. It is interesting how LC went 15-0 in 2012 under Coach West and after he left the following year they went 3-7 in 2013. Was that a Senior heavy team in 2012, were there transfers out after Coach West left? Honest question.
I do believe they graduated a large group of talented seniors that year.

Using your logic, perhaps LC should have stayed in CI. Maybe they just are not big enough to compete in The MIC.
It was a weird conference when I was there. Bloomington, Terre Haute . . . a lot of travel. MIC makes more sense . . .
-
If combined, as most of the MIC school are, LC and LN would have enrollment of 4886, which would place them second in 6A. As is, LN has an enrollement of 2596, and LC has an enrollment of 2290, which is #16 and #23 in 6A respectively. Carmel is #1. Ben Davis is #2. Warren is #3. North Central is #5. Pike is #8. Center Grove is #17. LN is #16. LC is #23!
-
LC and LN definitely operate under a different set of rules than the rest of the MIC with split enrollment in the same school system.
-
LC has the athletes, as demonstrated by their runner up finish in 2010 and state championship in 2012 . . . both under Jayson West.
-
As an LC alum, I've never understood it. Could be a premier job in Indianapolis. Obviously splitting student pool between LC and LN hurts in comparison with Warren, Carmel, Ben Davis, North Central, Pike, but geez. Should be better. Only Jayson West has been able to win there. I'm guessing LC letting him go to WC for additional free day care is looked back upon as a major blunder.

As far as Shelbyville goes, the middle school situation has improved, as both 7th and 8th grades had teams this year. And from what I've heard, the youth system is up and running again. There will be an HHC all star tournament, and I have been told they will field teams in all grades. So it does seem the football situation there is on the upswing.

Who did NP think they had lined up? Can't be many programs that would even consider the notion of adding such a road game a week in advance.
I heard NP was trying to get Jasper to come up for homecoming. ADs we’re trying to get better games for both team’s abilities. Eastern Green, North Decatur, and Jasper all currently have Week 7 byes.

From what I hear Shelbyville at NewPalestine is back on due to NP being unable to find an opponent.

This should really push NP to start thinking about a conference move. The Mid State would be a nice fit.
HHC is a great fit for every other sport.

A lot going on here. Condensed version is it sounds like Shelbyville would forfeit the conference game, and scheduled a game with North Decatur under the impression NP had another game lined up.. They do not. If New Pal cannot find a Week 7 opponent, Shelbyville will be at New Pal on October 4.
