off topic of what you are talking about, your son man on man. a STUD to say the least. Kid is fast, hits hard and just knows the game of football. He was dominant on defense, had 1 INT but was a finger tip away from another one in the endzone. But what impressed me even more was his ability to block. To see a secondary defensive player go on the offensive side and make KEY blocks was pretty impressive. The play i remeber the most is him driving Cathedrals OLB to new pal sideland , actually to the track!!!!

Thank you.  He takes great pride is his blocking.  I told him this week it was slipping a bit as the season went on.  He was pissed.  After the game, he looked me in the eye and said, "how was my blocking tonight?"  And it was probably the best game of blocking he's ever had.  He had at least 5 key blocks on Spegal's big runs.  I was very proud of his efforts.

Agree about their D and Cathedrals inability to convert in the red zone. Plus, no disrespect to Speagle, but a number of RB’s could have gashed the Cathedral D with the way New Pal’s O-Line was destroying the Cathedral D-Line in the 2nd half.

first half red zone possession that ended in a FG looks like inside zone from the 7 that #20 bounced outside (but he's so damn fast he got back) to the two.  Then the jet sweep pass to #3 who tried to make very hard cut upfield and his knee went down untouched.  Third down bootleg pass should have been picked off.

  3. Was not a pretty game offensively, that's for sure.  Lots of defense.

Blocked punt was a big play that gave TC a lot of confidence.

That third quarter drive was unbelievable.  Multiple fourth down conversions, just ground out the clock and the yards.

MD probably should have thrown the ball more early.  TC made a great pass break up on 4th down that looked like a for sure TD when he let it go.

Great season by Cathedral. I’m still confused on why they didn’t just run the ball straight up the guy on the 1st and goal from the 3... or even a QB sneak 3 straight times and I bet he would have gotten 3 yards. Cathedral will be back next year and will be competing for a state title again.

After looking back at that drive with the missed FG, they did run an inside zone/trap play on first down to #30.  Second down was a fake jet sweep with an outside zone to the backside.  And third down was fake jet sweep with QB keep up the middle/inside the tackle.  Same play they had scored on in the first half.

Will not run away from my bet. I am completely shocked with the outcome of the game. Honestly going into halftime with the score 10-7 i felt confident. The game changer in this game was not going for it on NP 3 yard line, missing the field goal, then NP gets the ball at the 25.... i did not know they moved the ball to the 25. NP coaching staff completely out coached Cathedral staff from halftime and on. Embarrassing for cathedral fans.

Congrats to New Pal and I see no one coming close to beating them this year, with that being said, after this year they will be in the rebuilding process. But who knows maybe they have another 19 year old star that is going to transfer!!! It would  have been a better game if Cathedral was able to play Markese Stepp tonight who is younger than Speigal... lol just kidding. Hats off to the dragons. Hope for games like tonight in the future. Nothing beats Friday Night lights!

You need to look around the state and see how many "19 year olds" are playing basketball.  Never seen so much crying about a kid that is well within IHSAA rules.

No shame in losing to New Pal, not only a very talented team but an extremely well-coached but very disciplined team.

That being said, I just think the playing calling left more to be desired. A few examples:

-after New Pal scored on the opening drive, Cathedral didn’t flinch and moved the ball right down the field. After a big 4th down conversion, Cathedral has 1st and G from the 7. After a 5 yard gain up the middle to the 2, Cathedral (with the biggest offensive line in the state) runs a shovel pass. Receiver trips over the back of one of his lineman for a 4 yard loss. They settle for a FG.

-after dominating the first half, Cathedral comes out of halftime and throws an incompletion on 1st down and then an INT on 2nd down. Why not methodically run the ball down New Pal’s throat like they had been doing all game?

-after turning NP over, Cathedral once again methodically drives down the field and has 1st and G. Again, run north and south and not east-west. Punch it in and NP is down 2 scores and in uncharted territory nearing the end of the 3rd quarter.

Credit New Pal, but Cathedral had multiple opportunities to blow that game open and didn’t. You still have to execute, but I don’t think some of the play calling put Cathedral in the best position to win.

They love that shovel pass inside the 5 yard line.  Have all year.  I agree with running the ball more.  And I get why they went for those FG, points were at a premium at the time.  But what a momentum swing. Missed FG, 35 yard pass, long TD run . . . game over!

  6. the only thing that annoyed me in this thread is when posters said that we hadn't seen speed or athtletes like Cathedral had.  As Muda has so graciously pointed out, we are a suburb of Indianapolis.  These boys have seen city speed since second grade.  Played basketball and football against the top athletes Indy has to offer.  Won a Basketball regional semi-final against Avon.  Came within a shot of beating Ben Davis.  Won a state championship in football defeating Zionsville, Michigan City and Decatur Central.  To act like our boys had no idea what they were gonna see is asinine.

talking about spegal... is it true he is 19 and almost 20?.... just the word on the street, not saying it is true or not just wondering lol.

i heard he was not going to be able to run track due to his age qualification.

I'm gonna chime in on this one.  Not my place to give his age or birthday.  But he would be eligible to play any HS sport he wants in accordance with IHSAA rules.  This rumor needs to go away.
