So....this is going to be good. By the way New Pal has one of the premier football atmospheres I 've  traveled to. Very friendly laid back group of stadium helpers. (The concessions need help) But the reason I'm posting is to let you all in on the Irish team family of fans. Standing  on the visiting team side, I don't like to sit. I was able to, first hand, see how complementary and polite the students and adults where conducting themselves all game long. Impressive also, that they have such a massive group following the team.  You don't know what tailgating is until you see this group. They feed and welcome anyone and every one to join them pre game. Food, my god, enough to feed an army. gratin potatoes, fresh fruit, couple of soups, southwest dip and chips, baked beans, dogs, burgers just to mention some of the offerings And thank goodness, inside the New Pal stadium, Chick-fil-a sandwiches, nothing to write home about, for $5, and oh yea,$1 popcorn that comes in a container about the size of a Cracker Jack box. If anyone ever gets a chance to attend a football game that Cathedral plays in do it. Great group.

Thanks, brother. Was starting to think there was going to be a positive post on the GID. Nope. Always someone out there to bring negativity. It’s human nature I suppose. Either way, great night, great football game, wrong result. Good luck to the Dragons the rest of the way.

    Cathedral 45, New Palestine 32.

BTW, whoever designed and/or approved New Palestine's recent extravagant uniforms need to be fired.  Having the words 'Dragons' on both the jersey and the pants is redundant and dumb.  Cathedral's now, they look pretty classy:

Goheeeeeeeeen! Gonna need a monster performance out of him tomorrow!

What a sweet post, Muuuuuuuda. Thought we’d get something more like Cathedral’s uniforms are so good looking from their private school privilege or something similar. The Irish-ofile you are evolving into is making me blush.

That being said having watched quite a few games. I would say the fastest player that I have watched Cathedral have to defend didn't come from Indiana. They have seen Elder QB Matthew Luebbe the last 2 years and he was lightening fast. Which is a big reason he leads the GCL in rushing yards and he is definitely not African American. I am sure @IndplsCathedral_Dad can elaborate how fast Luebbe was in person, I only saw game film. He definitely has jets.

The fastest freshmen player we faced this year was Center Grove’s RB. Don’t know his name, but he was a quick white boy. And CG was the best frosh team we played.

Thanks! The only place I found online near the high school is Round The Corner Grill, which I assumed will be flooded around 5 pm

Round the Corner is the spot! Rumor is that is where Coach Ralph and his coordinators “debrief” after practice nightly. I was told by the bartender last time I was in there they sit right at the end of the bar and strategize. I’ll be rolling in there before 3p to get the party started.

Irish fan here, let's get back to topic!

I have 5 predictions that will hold 100% true and I am sure both sides can agree on the following:

    1. These are two best teams in state regardless of class

    2.  It will be SRO only so GET THERE EARLY.

    3.  One of these two teams will be playing in 6A next year

    4. The game will live up to the hype

    5.  The Irish Tailgate / convoy of RV's and motor homes will start showing up at 4pm.

I think you’d be late at 4pm. Let’s go Irish!

Congrats to West Lafayette on a great season....that said, I still think it’s ridiculous that these teams all got loaded into the same Sectional.  I really feel like WL, Guerin and Brebeuf should all still be practicing.

IHSAA has been doing it for 30 years. In the 90s, it was Chatard, Roncalli, and Cathedral in the same sectional. Most of those years, the sectional winner won the state or at least made it to the championship game. If there is a chance to get the P/Ps in the same sectional, the IHSAA will certainly get it done.

Also on top of what I said, I want a serious answer. Are these the two best teams in the state regardless of class?. Let’s hear the opinions. In my opinion I really think they are. Obviously, being in Fort Wayne, I really haven’t seen either of them play but I do think these are the top two teams in the state. I’d like to think Dwenger could play with them if they make it down there but even being biased, I don’t think they can. The 2007-2010 Dwenger teams could have I think but not this one.

Probably showing my age here, but the 1990 and 1991 Dwenger teams were your best teams. You were 27-1. Had 12 guys play major college football. 2 in the NFL. Chris Dittoe (IU QB),  Euell Wilson, Jason Fabini (NFL), Kevin Carretta (ND LB), Steve Martin, Chad Cagnet, etc.

And, to stay in topic, Dwenger beat New Pal in 1990 and Cathedral in 1991 in the State Championship. The 1991 CHS team they beat was absolutely stacked. One of the better State Finals games..

Yes it will be fun. Here is my opinion of both teams offenses:

New Pal  has been very methodical offensively, they definitely have the capability of big plays for scores. New Pal is perfectly fine with methodically moving the ball down the field and wearing a team out, then when they do wear a team down they will step on the pedal and start hitting big plays. They have a RB like Spegal who is fine with being a work horse and pounding at teams or ripping off big plays. That being said Roth has been a very steady QB who can run and when they need to throw he has 2 terrific WR's in Hook and Large that not only block well down field, but they can make big plays in the passing game. The New Pal O-line is very sound, disciplined, and strong. Any New Pal fan feel free to correct anything I have wrong, it won't hurt my feelings. I am unbiased and just go by what I little I do see.

Cathedral can be methodical and have a few times, but it seems when you think they are going to do that they hit big plays catching the right moments. Offensively they can be deceptively fast because their runners will be patient but when they see open field they can turn on the jets. Their RB Hall can chew up yards in chunks with his speed, and the other RB Langdon while being comfortable pounding the ball has shown in open field he has some great speed too. At QB Edwards has had moments where he throws a little high, but he can put great touch on the ball. He can run the ball very well when he needs too and is pretty quick himself. He is very comfortable sitting in the pocket to throw or throwing on the run and has can elude pressure. At WR they have some  quick guys who can get behind the defense for some big plays. They also have a big strong O-line that plays very solid. Just like with New Pal if any Cathedral fan wants to correct me feel free it definitely will not bother me.

You don’t mention Cathedral’s defense in your remarks, but I think you have to mention that with the offensive stars you pointed out. In my mind, run defense is our biggest strength. 300lb+ Sean Oldham at nose and David Guhl at DT are both excellent linemen. And D1 bound Shiloh Means is a Bob Sanders-esque hammer at free safety. It will definitely be won or lost in the trenches when Nee Pal has the ball. Cathedral has given up most of the points this year through the air. We’ve rarely had a RB run it down our throats. So, it will be great to see if Spegal gets it done.

The Irish tailgate will be starting early for this one!! Let’s gooooo.

  7. Chatard -14.5

Don’t understand the rant exactly. If Chatard walks through 3A and Cathedral loses to Decatur on Friday, Cathedral still beat Chatard. Cathedral is a class up while Chatard remains in their original class. A 3A Champ BCHS is still not in the same breath as a reformed 4A (sometimes 6A) Cathedral. So, if this discussion is about size, most of us on this board know that doesn’t matter.

Why would Bobby Cox give 6A Carmel with 110 kids on the roster a week off and force South Newton with 20 live bodies on the roster to immediately go out and play an elimination game?

    Does that make sense?

Oh yes, it just occurred to me.  Last week was recruiting week in The Ivy League and the Carmel kids are booked for trips to Harvard, Yale and Princeton.  Silly me.

When Muda mentions all his hegemonic hate, he’s thinking DT and no one else. Besides the fact that you aimlessly seek attention from topics by inciting class riots, success factor nonsense, and general bore-ass retreads, you still have a knack for otherwise condescending content for even the smallest of great football schools. Are recruiting visits to Ivys even newsworthy? Pretend like you’ve been there before. Loser.

  9. Mudaaaaaaaaa. Muddddddddddddaaaaa. What would you do without all your P/Ps?!? The unfairness of it all. Can’t we just put the P/Ps in their own division so none of the lowly publics have to deal with all the inequities of the system. The IHSAA needs more equality, Mudaaaa. I, for one, am disgusted. This darn multiplier is just not enough to penalize the imperialistic private/parochials.

If you have "zero knowledge" of the circumstances, then why be judgmental about it? Unlike most places, there is no connection at ND between the athletic department and the admissions office. You commit to ND, that does not guarantee admission. You've still got to satisfy the admissions committee, regardless of how the athletic department feels about you.

Ok Bob. I have .000001 percent knowledge. Gripping the bat a little tight, aren’t you?

  11. I have zero knowledge of the matter, but I would say to give ND the middle finger for taking his commitment for 2 years and then not getting the job done with admittance. No clue on grades, but he’s not an idiot. Maybe they loved a new shiny RB?  Either way, ND had him committed. They didn’t get the job done.

Made Indiana proud? Just curious, why did he ditch the Irish for their most heated rival?

But yes, playing prime time with Tirico and Flutie gushingly loving on Indianapolis and Cathedral on national television. We’ll take it. Was his time at Cathedral tenuous? Fairly. Will we claim him on the national stage? Absolutely.

  13. Hopefully many of you got to see Cathedral’s Markese Stepp have a career day for USC against Notre Dame in South Bend last night. Wow. Defining play where he literally drug 6 Irish defenders 10 yards after contact was one of the better runs in the NCAA this season. 8.2 YPC on 82 yards rushing and a TD. Congrats, Markese.

    Made Indiana proud last night.

I take responsibility for starting the Jesuit/Catholic discussion. My fault for trying to use humor.

My line? It was a smart line. And a smart crowd would appreciate it. I’m not gonna dumb it down for some bonehead mass audience!

Unfortunately, thanks to our maligned, self serving Archbishop, both schools have been dealing with the fallout of his actions for more than 24 months now. Though we would all like to joke about it, it has pretty much shredded the local Catholic community between the schools (and across the entire Indy Archdiocese). Brebeuf will be entangled with the Vatican for months to come as they search to usurp the Indy Archdiocean scourge with the Jesuits as their advocate. Cathedral will be entangled as a key witness in a major federal discrimination suit that will go to the highest levels of the US federal courts.

As for the game, the 2017 upset was Brebeuf’s greatest win ever in my opinion. A perfectly coached game by Coach Roessler had 3 huge punts pinning the Irish inside our own 10 yard line 3 times. Another bold 4th and 2 call from Brebeuf’s own 40 for a TD was game breaker. I hope the boys all remember that game. If so, the Irish should win big.
