I did not play football in the MIC but was a MIC athlete.  It's a catch 22.  I'm talking about those WAAAAYYYY down the depth chart.

C team game on Monday or varsity time on Friday night?  That's an easy choice in my opinion.

Most of the kids way down the depth chart participate in other activities too, such as the Carmel MB.  They don't care about playing time because they've got other opportunities.  My son is involved in so many other extra-curriculars that he is just excited to stand on a sideline with a full home crowd.  It's his choice to play and participate.  I've always told him it's his choice, but if he makes a commitment, he sticks with it until the end and gives it his best.

Going to play devils advocate here but only 11 football players can see the field at a time...you can only enter 2 athletes per event in the track state tournament, you have to trim your roster to a certain amount for the tournament series in every sport.

At what point is 5,000 kids too many and are you costing student athletes opportunities?  First world problems, but how many junior varsity SWIMMERS at Carmel would walk on to another high school campus and be the best swimmer on the team?

A 2500/2500 split and Carmel would STILL be a powerhouse in most sports...

But its "about the kids" right?

My kid is one of those kids that doesn't get much playing time and/or opportunity, but I gave them the choice of going to Westfield or another school in the area and they chose Carmel.

You played football in the MIC, you know what it's like to go to a large school.  Would you have rather went to a smaller school to have a better opportunity?

Don't think you will ever see Carmel split.  Another private school perhaps would thrive in Clay Township.  Carmel just doesn't have too much more room to grow.

Fishers on the other hand, does.  There has been talk of a 3rd  HS, strictly for academics. I don't know the details and haven't heard anything for a couple of years, but I think the plan is still there.

Carmel will probably top out at around 6,000 kids.  Carmel could’ve been much larger such as a Fishers but hospitality and businesses were also very important to them.

You’ll never see them split and it’s not necessary.  Athletics is a powerhouse.  Arts is a powerhouse.  Academics is fantastic.  It’s one of the countries best schools.

  4. Wild game!

BD led 7-0 at the half, but couldn’t hold onto the ball. A fumble in the 3rd led to a return by the Warren D, then another Warren FG made it 10-7. Giants marched 80 yards in the 4th to take a 14-10 lead and had the game in their hands before another fumble leading to a WC TD. BD got it back though and marched 82 yards in 4:00 minutes. With a chance to tie, BD missed a FG at the end but Warren has too many men on the field leading to a 2nd chance and a BD FG to send us to OT at 17 each.

After trading TD’s in OT, Warren threw an INT on the first possession of double OT setting up BD for the game winning FG.

    Giants win 27-24

Ban every last official that worked tonight's Warren-BD game. They were terrible. They won BD that game

Sorry sir, if you for one second, think that Warren was cheated out of that game, you weren’t watching.

BD turned it over twice when they had an opportunity to step on WC’s throat.  Giants looked good tonight and took it to Warren.

Warriors last two in-state losses have now been to the Giants.  GREAT GAME!

“Competitive” against Hendricks County schools with nearly 2000 fewer students at that.

BD is a .500 team at best in my opinion.  Call me a hater but I’m just not a big believer in Simmons.  There’s more to the Kirschner departure that is indicative of a larger problem...

I don’t believe they’ll only be .500 for a second.  Folks, in 2017 they won 63-14 and 20 months later you’re saying that being competitive is the new norm.  They lost 53 seniors that year and still haven’t fully recovered from that loss.  Many people think a program this size can just rebuild, but it’s simply not the case.  When you’re 2 deep at every position and still have seniors left over, that’s very hard to recover and be competitive right away.  A majority of the guys playing against BD varsity in 17 who returned and 18 or 19 were also playing varsity.  The guys who came in for BD 18 were from JV or freshman mostly.  You can not simulate that type of speed at the JV level, especially in a conference as strong as the MIC.

That said, it’s not as if BD was horrible last year, they were still #9 according to the Sagarin.  Both Avon and Brownsburg have fantastic talent and great coaching.  BD almost beat Avon last year even with the loss of 53 seniors and, furthermore, were competitive in every game last year with the exception of WC, who was the 2018 version of BD.

Before you write off Jason Simmons, at least see what he can do with some talent returning.  Giants will at the very least be in the regional, but I think they go to the semi-state before bowing out.  They’ll be fine!
