I’ve watched Carmel the last 4 games. Their defense is dominating. Big, strong, fast. Sparty will be put to sleep.

I agree that Carmel will be in the State Finals which I'm thrilled with since my son is a senior, but my pick from the south is Ben Davis.  Name a team playing better than them right now?

Anybody who uses the great JAY GRAVES in their citation loses any credibility they had.

I can show you my 6A bracket if you’d like.    Anyone with a pulse had four MIC teams remaining at this point, they just had a different HCC team still alive.

Not predicting it to happen by any means but does the narrative change it all if Zionsville beats Ben Davis Friday night?

HCC had potential for 4 sectional champions - 2 of those sectionals had MIC teams residing in them.  Head-to-head in the tournament in regards to teams surviving the sectional, the MIC is 2-0 and the combined score was 84-21.

Zionsville will have their hands full against a Ben Davis team playing as well as they have been in the last 2 years.  I believe I called for BD Vs Carmel in the 6A title game.  I'll stick with my prediction.

No matter what is said at this point, the fact is the HCC faded in this tournament and once again, the MIC shows they are still the conference to beat in the tournament.

Heck, I'm on record as to thinking BD was practically done after week four's loss to Center Grove. I've never seen a Ben Davis team resurrect itself in quite this way. They were going nowhere fast, but Coach Simmons has done a tremendous job along with his staff. Those kids believe in him, and he believes in them.

I obviously follow them being a MIC supporter, but don’t follow them as much as I’d like being up in Greyhound territory.  That said, @BDGiant93, you have to like your odds for this to continue the run to LOS.

Carmel may not win their sectional......... Sagarine has this game almost even.  Fishers was a 3 point favorite last week against the rocks............

I think Carmel matches up better than Fishers, but I’ll give you this one.  Really wouldn’t be a surprise to see Westfield win, they’re very good.  The Hounds though have started to hit their stride and I’d say they will be a tough out.

  5. Intriguing matchups here.

I’ll take Merrillville, Penn, Carroll, Carmel, Brownsburg, BD, WC, CG

1: Merrillville [9-1] at Crown Point [6-4] [BRACKET]
    2: Penn [6-4] at Warsaw [8-2] [BRACKET]
3: Carroll (Fort Wayne) [7-3] at Homestead [10-0] [BRACKET]
    4: Westfield [6-4] at Carmel [7-3] [BRACKET]
    5: Brownsburg [7-3] at Zionsville [4-6] [BRACKET]
6: Southport [7-3] at Ben Davis [6-4] [BRACKET]
7: Lawrence North [4-6] at Warren Central [7-3] [BRACKET]
8: Franklin Central [5-5] at Center Grove [5-5] [BRACKET]

Is it safe to say 5A is better than 6A?

    5A #3 Cathedral over 6A #14 Center Grove 14-9

     5A #1 New Palestine over 6A #14 Center Grove 28-9

    5A #2 Valpo over 6A #4 Merrilville 29-28

6A- The MIC still controls the south unless Brownsburg still has some magic left.

The north is just as wide open. Will Carmel's SOS push them to another state finals or will the  Merrilville / Homestead winner beat them?

With so much parity I am hoping for two non-traditional tough football programs make it to state. North-Homestead/Merrilville, Warsaw and South-anyone but MIC.

I would agree that there is  VERY strong possibility that the 5A champion this year is best in the state.

6A is stronger as a class and most likely always will be, but the top 3 are no joke in 5A.

But I thought the MIC was on a doomsday spiral and the HCC was on the rise lol? All jokes aside, 6A is even more WIDE open than anticipated. 1-8 Noblesville took 9-0 Homestead to the wire and should have won honestly.

Does Warsaw, Merrillville, Westfield, or Homestead have enough fire power to upset Carmel?

Is there even a big-time favorite to choose from out of the South?

Speaking of Noblesville, I think this answers our question about Homestead getting into the finals.

Other than Pike the only other MIC teams to lose lost to another MIC team. BD will have its hands full next week but if they win it will prob be an all MIC final 4 in the south half of the bracket

BD will roll Southport next week.  Also, impossible to have an all MIC final four as it’s an HCC Championship game in sectional 5.

Why do we have a system where the biggest and wealthiest schools get a free week off to rest up and heal and prepare and go on vacation, and our smaller more urban schools are thrown directly into the post season fire without the same privileges?

MIC schools go 4 deep at every position and have the best equipment and medical support money can buy.  Do they need a week off more than a rural school with barely a 2 deep roster that probably has to take a long road trip for a first round sectional game?

One might say because the 6A athletes are bigger, faster and stronger that they might require a break in their schedule due to being significantly more banged up at their skill positions and among starters.

It is the responsibility of the IHSAA to attempt to see that all schools are treated fairly and equitably.  While the schools themselves are not concerned about the bye situation, the governing body, the IHSAA, should be.  It just defies logic that a school with 100 kids on the roster that goes 4 deep at every position gets a week off while a school with 21 that cant even scrimmage in practice has to go out and play a do or die elimination game.  Where's the fairness and equity in that?

The IHSAA is a governing body still ran by the schools.  The schools voted for this and have not once brought up playing a 10th game.

Furthermore, even if there was a week 10, the schools DO NOT have to play.  There have been numerous teams take week 9 off in the past.  By no means are you required to play a full 9-game schedule.

  11. This is great for the fans but a large majority of the 6A programs that I’ve spoken with prefer the week off to get healthy for the tournament.

The lengthy car rides up north or down to Indy for a meaningless regular season game also, while the hardcore fan loves these games, there is no interest from students who have never heard of the opposing school will bring tens of fans to this type of game.  Obviously it’s a bit different if a school has their senior night week 10, that brings up the crowd significantly.  Most schools though are eliminating costs and not adding them so I can’t see a transportation department wanting to drive the 2+ hours to a regular season game for a 5th time in a single season prior to the tournament.

I want to get behind this because I want to see a 10th game for these groups who only get to play 14 if you make it to the title game, but I don’t see the value for the schools unless you’re playing locally.  Even then, you’ll be hard pressed to find a coach who hasn’t enjoyed resting their team the week before the playoffs begin.
