I am a big Brian Otto guy

Tough dude.  Brother, Mike, was a basketball guy.  Didn't think football was his sport.  He played be never thought that was going to be where he went at the next level.  Then, no basketball scholarships were coming.  Purdue offered in football.  I think at one time he held the record for most starts in a career.  Went on to have a nice career with the Titans in the NFL.

Braves Basketball is back, baby. I was at a boys/girls DH against Lewis Cass a few weeks ago and the place was full. Seating has been reduced a bit with some renovations over the last few years, but there were close to 3k in attendance that night. Felt like being in there in the mid/late 90s as a kid again.

Josiah Ball may end up being the best player to come out of 256 E 800 S since Corey Burns in the late 90s. Probably has a higher upside than him, too.

Just going to throw Phil Garnett out with the trash?

Are you aware that tournament revenue that goes “to the IHSAA” is distributed to the schools after IHSAA operating expenses are deducted?

Losing one sectional round and gaining a 10th game which adds a home game every other year will add more revenue to the schools.

In 2022, Rochester traveled to Seeger game 1, Benton Central game 2, and then had a home game against LCC.  There was a bye in the other bracket, LCC played Delphi game 1, Cass game 2, and then Rochester.  After expenses, I'm guessing each school received a $200-$400 check maybe less.

I do believe, after the sectional round of play, schools are only given reimbursement checks.  No revenue generated from regional, semi-state, or state games is given back to the schools.

My better idea is not doing this ridiculous idea of 32 teams in all classes.

I'd be more in favor of not all teams qualifying for the tournament, which I'm not advocating for either.

Yeah, it was just an idea.  I'm not sure how ridiculous it is.  We already have 2 classes that are 32 teams.  Some people want it switched to be 1a and 6a not 5a and 6a.  I am not for that.  I would like all schools to play a 10th regular season game.

  5. Illinois is an example that uses 32 teams in every class.  I don't think private schools are allowed into their state playoffs. Doesn't matter.  This would have to narrow the gaps in enrollment from the top of the class to the bottom.  The success factor can still be in the equation.  Just a thought.

I think the opportunity to play a 10th regular season game would be very enticing to 10-team conferences.  This would allow for an out of conference game along with playing each conference team in the regular season.  It may encourage some conferences to expand to 10 teams.

Indystar just put out an article about the upcoming enrollments. Enrollments will be released in the coming days. Can’t wait. However, they said it would be end of April before the sectional alignments are determined. Man that seems like a long time period to configure those.

It is interesting when there are coaches that know the alignments a week before they are announced!  I think the long gap in time is for lobbying to take place for certain alignments.

Also, it is difficult to justify the large salaries of the IHSAA commissioner and his minions if the process was done and completed in a weekend.  I think Illinois is able to finish the season, determine what 256 teams qualified for the playoffs, classify them by enrollment into 8 classes of 32, and seed all 8 classes in a single weekend!

Would it be the top 4 teams from each class every year... like a relegation type deal? If that's the case do you drop the bottom 4 as well would that be based solely on record? Seems like a lot of work for the IHSAA, but if they could get it right would make for interesting changes to the classes every year.

I think you just go top two every year.

  8. How about reclassifying every year?  You play in the state title game and you move up a class for a year.  You would be considered the best from both the North and the South in that respective class.  Reclassification can't be as hard as the IHSAA makes it out to be.  If you play in the state championship after the bump, you move up again.  If you don't play in the state championship, you move back down.  Would be easier to keep track of then the point system.  Just a thought.

we have 37 of our 42 players coming back and some 8th graders coming in.   We had to play 3a football this past year with an enrollment of around 445.   2 years ago, Count Day, we had 528, by Xmas we had under 500, migrant workers and their families showed up and left, which left our school playing up.

So it goes, but we are a 2a school thru and thru

Maybe some Rochester/RC sectional battles in our future!

Lack of quality playcalling has plagued this team for years. I don't expect it to change. Laville boys hung tough but end of the day offense was way too predictable.

Laville's playcalling was what it has been for years.  They try to out flank you and find a numbers advantage.  In the past, it was easier because they had more studs.  In 2019, I thought their playcalling was very good. They had a better passer. Plummer's strength was in his legs.  He was limited in what he could do passing.  The coaches that are with those players everyday know what they can do and they call plays to their strength.  I am pretty sure that Laville got the most that they could out of this team.  If the field conditions are different week 1 of sectional, I am not sure Laville is even in the regional.  I am still trying to figure out what even happened at the end of that game.  The referees in that one looked to have no clue of what down it was, clock management, or general playclock rules.

Honestly, some untimely flags against LCC seemed to keep it closer than it really felt.  It never seemed that Laville was really ever in the game.  The score board showed the opposite obviously.  I am just saying the flow of the game always seemed to be in LCC's favor.

I am sorry, I have been going to these games from the time I can remember. I was at each of the three peat games, I was at the debacles to Warren, Carmel and BD. I have seen this program achieve success and lately the product on the field in the last four seasons is no where near the team that played Center Grove to a 12 point loss in the state finals. Penn with 3800 students should be able to produce talent across the board that can compete with an Indy based school year in an year out.

The blow outs to top Indy teams and now Carroll last year, when that game was at Home....not acceptable. Yes Penn is 8-1...yes they beat two top 10 5A teams and a New Prairie team that could make noise in 4A, but that is not what 6A programs should be patting themselves on the back about. Winning a weak conference title is not what you pat yourself on the back about. Competing year in and year out for Semi-State title games is where this program was at, and now if we win sectionals, which has only happened 1 time out of the last 5 or 6 seasons is unacceptable, we are actually surprised.

I know this thread isn't about Penn, and I am sorry this has kind of hijacked it.

Yeah, It doesn't help that you play a very less than typical 6a schedule.  Having only two on the schedule is not getting Penn ready for tournament play.
